Perfect Sight

It is the year 2020, and you may hear adults around you talking about having 20/20 vision. There are new goals and messages being written to inspire people to have a clearer vision for this year. What does it mean to have 20/20 vision or 20/20 eyesight? 20/20 vision, in simple words, means that you have perfect vision and do not need glasses or contacts to help you see better.

I wear glasses and have done so for the past four years. Some of us have been wearing glasses since childhood, while others did not start until we became adults. Vision is very important so that we can get a picture of what is around us, but what happens if we take our glasses off? What if we were born without vision at all? Does that mean we can’t have perfect sight?

Well, when you think about it in the most basic, physical way, then the answer would be yes. What

I am talking about looks past our physical eyes into our “faith” eyes.

Jesus has given us spiritual sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” You may hear pastors say that many times and ask what that means. Does it mean that I shouldn’t see what is around me? No, not exactly. If we trust God only by what we can physically see now, we are not really seeing who He is. I think about it in this way: my own vision without my glasses is blurry. I sometimes squint and have a hard time reading. I get tired of trying to read and give up if I can’t find my glasses close by. What if I had that kind of vision or goal for my life? What if I looked at it blurrily, got tired, and gave up? I am trusting in my own blurry, fuzzy outlook and not using the tools (my glasses) that God blessed me with to see more clearly.

The tool that He has given us for 20/20 vision is His word, the Bible! I encourage you to use it every day, like you do your toothbrush. Read just a few sentences, and it will help your vision. God will help you see things in a way you may not have before. Try it today and SEE where you are this time next month. Here’s to 2020!
