PASCAGOULA, Miss. — The 75-degree weather of the Gulf Coast was a welcome change in climate for most of the students from North Carolina. But the devastation around them was difficult to ignore. It was the reason they were there. The 21 students from Catholic campus ministry at Wake Forest University and Salem College in Winston-Salem cut short their Christmas breaks for a “Gulf Coast Service Trip,” serving those affected by Hurricane Katrina in Pascagoula, Miss., Jan. 2-9.
