WHY NOT JOIN ANOTHER MOTLEY CREW?

If you’re like millions of viewers worldwide, you’ve watched at least one or two episodes of “The Chosen,” a life of Jesus shown through the eyes of the men and women who followed him at the start of his public ministry. And if you’ve watched a few segments, you’ve undoubtedly realized that it really was a “motley crew” with which Jesus surrounded himself: simple fishermen constantly arguing with one another about who’s “number one” in terms of future leadership; a borderline autistic Jewish tax collector working for the hated Romans; a few brave women willing to stand against anti-feminist prejudice; and on it goes.

True, it’s a television series that takes historical and other liberties; but the characters—especially those first disciples—come across as authentic, believable, and mostly very human. The fact is that the Gospels likewise portray the twelve Apostles as including men who are weak, impetuous, fearful, inconsistent, ambitious – in other words, totally human. Yet these are the men CHOSEN by Jesus to continue His work on earth.

The Brothers I have lived and ministered with for over fifty years have definitely been a motley crew: varied backgrounds, histories, ages, personalities, temperaments, ministries. Yet each of us accepted the invitation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, to be instruments of the Church’s efforts at evangelization and education of the young, to try to keep the memory of Jesus alive in our world.

What about you? Why not consider joining us – motley group that we are? I promise: you will make a difference in our world.
