#GivingTuesday coming Dec. 1

Faithful Servant

Faithful Servant Fund focuses on three priority areas By LeAnne Miller, Senior Director of Development

As Christians, we are called

to do three things: 1. Love our God; 2. Share the Word of God; and, 3. Serve the poor. Catholic Charities gives you an opportunity to answer God’s call by helping us serve our neighbors in the community. By contributing to the Faithful Servant Fund, you give Catholic Charities the greatest flexibility to address the most urgent needs within our ministries and the Diocese of Wichita. Contributions to the Faithful Servant Fund help us address these three priority areas: Hunger & Homelessness Feeding the hungry at Our Daily Bread Food Pantry and assisting the homeless through St. Anthony Family Shelter and Southeast Kansas Services. Domestic Violence Helping victims become survivors through Harbor House outreach services, advocacy and emergency shelter. Enrichment Services Enriching lives at every stage of life through Adult Day Services, Cana Counseling and Immigration Services. Your donation today or during our upcoming annual appeal can help the hungry, homeless, poor, disabled, lonely and abused in our community.

The worldwide day of giving that has become known as #GivingTuesday is happening Dec. 1. It follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday to remind people to also donate to charities during the holiday season.

Harbor House offers more than emergency shelter The name tells only part of the story. Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter does so much more than shelter survivors and their families escaping domestic violence. Thousands of survivors are helped each year without even stepping foot into the shelter, instead receiving services in the community or through a 24/7 hotline. For Keri McGregor, program director, and her team, there are four corners to Harbor House. “Emergency shelter is absolutely one of those four corners and is what many people think of when they think of Harbor House,” Keri says. “Equally important to those we serve – the other three corners of our house, if you will -- are hotline services, such as safety planning and referrals to community resources; outreach for court services, financial literacy, and assistance with employment and housing; and collaboration with community partners in law enforcement and the district attorney’s office, and volunteers.” While attention is focused on domestic violence during an awareness month in October, Keri reminds that domestic violence and sexual assault happen every day in our community. That is the reason why Harbor House has offered round-the-clock access to emergency shelter and advocacy services for the past 26 years. If you or someone you know is concerned about their relationship, call the Harbor House hotline 24/7 at (316) 263-6000 for help.

Stuff the Box Help collect many of the household products, baby supplies, toiletries, clothing items, school supplies and more that are most needed by the women and children sheltering at Harbor House.
