Hundreds of families coming to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry
Six months into the pandemic, masked volunteers continue to efficiently direct hundreds of cars through the drive thru at Our Daily Bread Food Pantry each month, loading trunks or back seats with a variety of food items to sustain a family for a few days.
Since July 1, Our Daily Bread has distributed food for more than 240,000 meals, feeding 27,000 people for about three days.
Food insecurity continues to be one of the primary side effects of the economic downturn as families with reduced income struggle to make ends meet. Joe Seitz, program director for Our Daily Bread, expects that trend to continue well into 2021.
“There was already a significant need for food assistance in the greater Wichita area long before the pandemic happened,” Joe says. “The pandemic made a bad situation even worse, and we expect to see record numbers of individuals and families coming to the pantry well into 2021.”
A steady stream of volunteers and cash donations allowing the pantry to make bulk food purchases are what is needed to keep the pantry running smoothly into 2021, Joe says.
Another way to help Our Daily Bread is to register your Dillons rewards card in the grocer’s Community Rewards Program and designate Catholic Charities, Inc. Wichita (Code XT082) to receive a rebate based on your purchases.
