Quels évènements et quelles images nous touchent ou nous blessent, déchaînent notre colère et motivent notre engagement artistique ? Avec Histoire du théâtre, le metteur en scène et auteur Milo Rau entreprend avec les acteurs Johan Leysen, Sara de Bosschere et Sébastien Foucault un voyage à travers l’histoire du plus ancien des arts de l’humanité, questionnant les obsessions et les
techniques fondamentales de son « théâtre du réel » : l’impossibilité de la reprise et de la reconstitution du réel sur scène, la manipulation du public, la création de l’illusion au théâtre et l’engagement artistique. Histoire du théâtre clôture la Trilogie de la Représentation amorcée par Milo Rau en 2016 avec Five Easy Pieces et continuée avec Les 120 Journées de Sodome.

Which events and images touch us or harm us, unleash anger within us, summon our artsitic dedication ? With Histoire du Théâtre, director Milo Rau and his actors Johan Leysen, Sara de Bosschere and Sébastien Foucault take us on a journey through the history of the oldest artform known to man. Together they will tackle the fundamental
techniques of « real theatre » : the impossibility of recreating real events on stage, the manipulaton of the audience, the creation of the illusion of theatre and the implications of artistic committment. Histoire du Théâtre will conclude the trilogy following Five Easy Pieces and The 120 days of Sodom.
