On January 18, Amazon announced they are planning to "wind down" (i.e. discontinue) AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. Amazon will provide Cat Care Society with a one-time donation equivalent to three months of what we earned in 2022 through the program CCS will be able to accrue additional donations until the program officially closes in February On average, CCS received around $1,500 per quarter (or $6,000 per year) through this program. TAILS OF THE PAINTED CATS

Cat Care Society will once again present the Art from the Heartartauctiontobenefittheshelter Theauctionwillbegin on February 14, Valentine’s Day, and run through March 3 We are in the process of compiling an exciting collection of art pieces that we will offer online only We will be featuring handmadefelinethemedpottery,paintings,prints,andmore!

Tails of the Painted Cats will be presented September 16 at Baldoria on the Water, a beautiful Tuscan themed venue in Lakewood The cats will again have a few dog guests again this year, just to mix it up Barking and hissing will not be allowed. This event will again feature our irresistible auctioneer Doug Tisdale, and back by popular demand, Emcee Steve Staeger from Channel 9 Ten new artists will be featured this year in addition to many returning favorites, so we are excited to see the new work!

The entire menagerie as well as Flat Cat paintings will be touring again this summer. Their first appearance will be in May at the Lakewood Arts Gallery in their new location at The Hub in the 40 West Arts District on Colfax Avenue

They will then move to the Lakewood Cultural Center for the months of June and July We will post more information about public receptions in the Mews and on social media as it becomes available.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? -AUSTIN

Austin came to Cat Care Society in February of 2021 after his owner got married and his behavior changed He could not adapt to another human in his house, as he was a "devoted to a singular person" kind of guy, and became aggressive toward the new husband As he had been previously declawed before he had been adopted, biting was his go to behavior for anything that displeased him. As you know, CCS doesn't shy away from a challenge, and we were happy to take him in

He was not a fan of staff at first and would not allow anyone to look at him without charging at them or trying to bite. But we accepted that challenge as Perseus did for Medusa, and several staff members came up with inventive ways to never look directly at him using hand mirrors and cell phone cameras

"I was actually reminded to update you, when reading through his medical records to re-send to the vet and I’m genuinely shocked at all the comments about how aggressive and skittish he was, which is funny you mention how sassy he was Austin’s honestly been nothing but a delight since I brought him home I worked with his vet to get him off the fluoxetine and he’s been off it since September, 2021, with zero issues! He’s eating more now and seems to enjoy treats a lot more too He’s such a sweet cat, I haven’t seen any aggressive behavior from him at all! He’s very friendly and loves meeting new people, all my friends love coming to see him He likes to pretend like he’s to cool for it, but he’s really a big cuddly baby The only sass I get from him is his excessive meowing if I’m not paying enough attention to him

He had his 14th birthday in February, 2022! Still, no one has clocked him as being older than 10 Even the vet is impressed with how he looks and acts for his age He’s still very playful and loves his feathered toys He’s also obsessed with chewing on cardboard boxes and he loves those little puzzles with treats

He’s doing really well and I really couldn’t have asked for a better first cat Super glad I came to you guys and got the opportunity to adopt my best friend "

We are so happy that Austin was able to find the perfect human to adopt him

Once he was more accustomed to our presence, he allowed us to forego the visual aids and became very affectionate, but only with one person in the room at a time Austin had also come to us with a history of anxiety and our medical team decided the best treatment would be to put him on fluoxetine, an antidepressant, which helped his anxiety and aggression whenever someone would leave or overstay their welcome in his room

Six months after he entered our shelter, Austin met Madison and found his forever home
