Variations and Lines of Sight
The Tres por Tres wall system was developed with the goal to merge the modern ability to digitally create with the art of clay slip casting. The wall was designed to address structural, lighting, and ventilation needs. Simultaneously, there was a desire to retain the relationship between surface and void that has been ever-present in works of pottery. Rather than create a single unit type that would create a uniform wall, five different block types were made that varied in permeability visually and spatially. This serves not only to explore the fore- and background conditions of the wall, but also to address the requirement variations that are present on any site, be it day-lighting or passive cooling. The use of minimal surfaces allowed the ancient clay medium to come to life in a hightech world.
