CVCC provides quality continuing education courses for adults for specific occupational training or just the pure joy of learning something new. Our courses provide life-long learning experiences that help adults fulfill occupational, social and personal needs. Individuals can achieve their fullest potential and effectiveness in a rapidly changing world of increasing knowledge, skill and understanding. The diversity of programs ranges from vocational and technical skills to cultural and personal enrichment.

Pre-enrollment is required for all classes. Enrollment is not complete without payment. Every class has a minimum required enrollment. If this minimum is not met prior to the starting date, that class will be canceled. If you find a class you like, encourage a friend to join, too. Sometimes two or three people make the difference between “go” and “cancel”. You will receive a confirmation of enrollment via email. If you have enrolled by mail and want to confirm that we received your enrollment, please call 828.327.7000, Ext. 4424 or Ext. 4824. We will notify you again if a class in which you have enrolled is full or if a class has been canceled.
Our instructors are paid for fees collected so we must guarantee a minimum enrollment to schedule a class. The workplace demand for digital media skills—creating, managing, integrating and communicating information using Adobe’s multimedia, visual, or web design software—is on the rise. Adobe certifications help educators effectively teach and validate digital communications skills while providing students and creative professionals with valuable career credentials that demonstrate real-world design process to prospective clients and employers.
Adobe certification exams are difficult, but those that are up to the challenge will reap the rewards that come with owning the most respected certificates in the digital media industry. In order to earn your Adobe Certified Associate certifications, you’ll need to prepare for the exam and our classes can help you do just that! Preparation includes practicing with Adobe tools as well as learning some basic on-the-job skills related to your chosen software certification.

This workshop will focus on Abstract Acrylic Painting with emphasis on composition, design, exploration and experimentation. You may paint on canvas, wood, paper or any other substrate you may like. On day 2 you will be working with oil and cold wax. You will learn mixing, applying, building texture and uncovering layers of beauty with your piece.

If you have been charged with a minor traffic violation in the Burke, Caldwell or Catawba County district, you could have your citation charges reduced by District Attorney Scott Reilly by completing a 4-hour Defensive Driving course (22 years of age and older), an Alive @ 25 course (ages 16-21yo) or a court ordered 8-hour Defensive Driving class. The courses are available through CVCC and the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina. Complete the course and present the certificate of completion to the District Attorney’s office for payment no later than five working days before your scheduled court date.
The 4-hour Defensive Driving classes are offered every Thursday evening from 6p-10p and Saturday mornings from 9a-1p. The Alive @ 25 classes are offered every Saturday morning from 9a-1p. CVCC offers a court ordered 8-hour class twice a month from 8a-5p. You must register in person Monday-Thursday from 8a-4:30p or you can go online and fill out the mandatory pre-registration form. Once this form is submitted, you will receive an Instant Online Enrollment link within 24 hours of filling out this form. This link will give you directions of how to complete the online registration process.
The Defensive Driving and the Alive @ 25 classes cost $60 and the 8-hour class cost $100. A certificate of completion is given in the classroom for court purposes.

Many years ago, self-protection typically fell to the man of the household, but that’s not the case today. Women are purchasing handguns now more than ever and wish to have a foundation of knowledge about the “tool” that may be necessary to defend themselves. This hands-on course teaches 2nd amendment rights, the proper way to handle a handgun, safety in and outside the home, explanation of ammunition, and it touches on the 5 basic fundamentals of shooting. The modern woman is stepping up her role to protect herself and the people she cares for. This hands-on course teaches basic philosophy about how to “turn the tables” on your attackers, purchasing a handgun for defense, defensive pistol techniques, situational awareness (avoiding conflict to begin with), the 9 conceal carry methods for women, drawing from holster, ready positions and grip, defensive ammo, staying out of jail in a shooting, and much, much more. This course will cover the basics of manual camera operation. Determining proper exposure, the interplay between aperture & shutter speeds, composition, photographic techniques, and supporting equipment will be explored. In this course we will use the camera’s aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual settings to make proper exposures. After taking this course a student should be able to photograph a scene to depict it as they desire. An SLR camera that can be manually operated is required.

Participants must hold a valid commission as a notary public in NC in order to qualify for this certification. This course instructs individuals in procedures required to exercise electronic notarial acts as set forth by the NC Secretary of State. Offered as a short-term continuing education training, the barbering course will teach students to professionally style and cut men’s and women’s hair of all types. Students will learn about the implements and tools used in barbering, shaving, chemical services, skin treatment, and the business aspect of barbering. Students will work with both mannequins and live clients. Classes are offered both day and night. Full-time students can complete the program in 10-11 months; parttime students can complete in 14-15 months. Upon completion, the barbering program students will be licensed by the state of NC to be professional barbers in any barbershop in our great state.

Basic Rider Course (BRC): This 20 – 22-hour course is designed for new riders who have never ridden a motorcycle, and for re entry riders who have not ridden in a long time. Even experienced riders who have taken this course have told us afterwards that they learned a lot. Persons interested in attending a BRC must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. You should have a driver’s license or learner’s permit to take the course. However, you must be able to ride a bicycle, and you must possess some degree of strength. Motorcycles are provided. Upon successful completion of the BRC, you will be issued a skills waiver card for the NCDMV. This means the DMV will not require you to take their motorcycle riding test. You will still be required to visit your local DMV office and take their written exam before being issued a motorcycle endorsement.
