RODERICK COOVER is Director of the MFA program in Film and Media Arts at Temple University. Roderick Coover's works employ digital media arts and experimental documentary methods to explore point of contacts between technologies, the social sciences and the humanities. Some themes include visual geographies, interactive panoramic, cultural narratives and their collective representations, and wordimage relationships. His works include museum installations, print publications, films and multimedia collaborations of fiction and non-fictional story. Examples of works include the interactive series, Unknown Territories (unknownterritories.org), which is a collection of interactive environments about how perceptions of the deserts of the American West are shaped through language and image, and the book, Switching Codes: Thinking Through Digital Technologies In The Humanities And Arts (Chicago), which brings together leading scholars, artists, authors, and computer scientists to discuss their changing practices. Some other recent works include From Verite To Virtual (Documentary Educational Resources), Outside/Inside (Museum of the American Philosophical Society), The Theory of Time Here (Video Data Bank), and Cultures In Webs (Eastgate). MACHINE LIBERTINE is media poetry group. The method of our work is the exploration of the role of media in the development of literary art practices including video poetry, text generators and performance art. The main principles of the group are formulated in our Machine Poetry Manifesto pointing out the idea of liberation of the machines from the routine tasks and increasing the intensity of their use for creative and educational practices. Machine Libertine had been founded in December 2010 starting with a video poetry called Snow Queen, a piece for British Council and presented recently at Purple Blurb series at MIT and Harvard. It is a combination of masculine poetry «Poison Tree» by William Blake contrasted to mechanic female MacOS voice and cubistic video imagery of Souzfilm animation «Snow Queen» (1957). We are exploring how the text can be transformed by mechanized reading and visualizing it and what are the possible limits of this transmedia play of interpretation. 82
