EDITORS NOTES The collector forum in Asia is heating up! Greetings CastHeads! I am happy to report that this year we are going to be seeing a lot of bank emptying temptations and divorce lawyers are going to make a killing. We are fresh off the boat from the Singapore Diecast Expo and we’ll be heading to Malaysia for the 2019 Diecast Expo but already we are seeing new brands gearing up with cool new products and models. Different scales, more dioramas, more accessories, more display options the community is in full swing. CastHeads magazine is in full swing too! As long as more and more great cars and models come out, we’ll always have awesome content for you. Hold on to your seats for giveaways, auctions and more awesome and crazier CastHead content.

This month’s editor’s choice for me is this beautiful M2 1:64 1954 Studebaker 3R Truck finished in this silky blue satin matte paint. The issue we look at some heavy duty rides and a classic American Pick Up is my great way to start. Please read, explore and share! Thank you!

I wish I could add more to what my esteemed partner in crime has mentioned in his Editor's Note, but alas, there isn't much that I can. All I can say is that 2019 is shaping up to be quite a remarkable year. We've partnered with some amazing brands, attended some (and soon will be) amazing events across Asia and working together with some outstanding people on many many things. This is issue we've decided to take a less beaten path and try shedding some light on the types of models that usually don't see the spotlight, also taking a gander at some 'fantasy' cars that stand out and getting out and about taking some models around Sri Lanka and generating content to share with our readers worldwide.

I've chosen something that would not usually get a lot of attention, but I consider it a hidden gem. The Hot Wheels Bad Mudder is actually a 1997 Ford F-150 Baja Truck driven by Robby Gordon. But due to licensing issues were never made again. This is up there with the Toyota OffRoad truck and the Baja Truck fantasy casting.

Otto Mobile

2007 Honda S2000

The Honda S2000 drew all eyes to it on its release. Its design was original, but it was its technique that made it a legend. With its 240-horsepower 2L engine, the S2000 broke the record for performance per liter. It would take a decade for Ferrari to do better than 120 horsepower per liter. Its engine block was capable of pulling out 9000 rpm. OTTO Models unveils the 2007 model in Apex Blue Pearl with slate five-spoke rims and black leather interior. Production is limited to 1500 units. Citroën Type HY EAG The HY saw the light of day in 1948. Post-war France needed utility vehicles to rebuild the country and boost the economy. It was under the guidance of Pierre Boulanger that the car was born, with the main priority being practicality, solidity, and reusing existing parts from the brand. Its development was started back during the war in the greatest secrecy in order to avoid drawing the attention of the invader. Its loading capacity was set at 1200 kg, and it remained a fixture in French society for decades, being produced until 1981. The model comes with opening doors and boot, fire-engine red paint scheme and EAG ' En Avant Guingamp' club livery with period correct fittings, and working steering. 1982 BMW E24 635 CSI This car is what elegance incarnate looked like in the early eighties. With its inimitable aesthetic and incredible purity, this coupé would contribute to the reputation of the brand in Grand Touring. However, a BMW is above all an engine and this 635 did not disappoint in that regard. Its stretching bonnet housed a voluptuous 6-cylinder in-line 3.5L engine coupled with a Bosch electronic injection. This high-end German became the ideal weapon to cross the country in the fast lane of the Autobahn Scale 1:18 Status: June 2019

Hot Wheels Basic

Muscle Bound Very rarely do we feature Hot Wheels original designs or "fantasy cars" as they are called by collectors. But this model deserves a very special mention. Designed by Tyler Charset, Muscle Bound is a new release for 2019 under its Speed Blur set. With its sharp lines, almost Kenmeri good looks and shark deco found on WW2 fighter planes, modern camo paint job, this has become a hit with collectors all across the world raving about it. It also sports a hood intake reminiscent of muscle cars. The melding of east and west is actually well done on this model. The model rocks the red-lined RCDDB wheels and the metallic drab green paint scheme. Scale: 1:64 Status: Available Now

Straight into it Felix, What's up with the new logo?

Why Change now, just as the brand is establishing itself?

I wanted to create a new logo that stands for who we are as a team and who we are as a brand. The old logo was nice but it doesn't provide a story. The new logo is retro which a homage to the long history of model cars. It is also fun, colorful and playful which tells you about who we are a team. The colors and combinations of pattern of the logo is simply limitless and that reflects how we think about what we want to do in the market, there should be no limits to our imaginations.

Changing the logo at such an early stage is definitely a bold move but I feel that it is very important to have the right brand identity early on so that collectors know exactly who we are. We are always going to be pushing the envelope for something more and something innovative.

Does this versatility transcend into product design? Absolutely. You will begin to see how our logo will connect to our products and packaging in the most direct ways. Each car or race car has a story to tell and we want our logo to have an association with the car rather than just a plain logo smacked onto the poster or packaging.

What did you think about the response to your April Fools Troll? We ought to be more open minded when it comes to a joke, well at least 1 out of 365 days

We know you guys have a Tsunami of product line up but what's up with the Owners Club? The Owners Club is a way to unite all those who have supported us throughout the years by providing additional savings, prioritypurchase and early-bird entry to our events. The first round of Owners Club recruitment was held on May 6th, 2019 with all 1,500 memberships sold out in 15 minutes! I'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who have joined us, it means the world to us! We decided to stop at 1,500 for the time being in order to provide a better and more exclusive experience to our members.

What is the plan to sort out the QC and Customer Support issues? Since day one we have looked at QC very seriously and have been constantly looking for ways to improve. A model car, especially a race car in such a small scale, involves many steps in the production process that is by hand which not many people would realize and therefore it is prone to have inconsistency. Having said that, we will continue our ongoing efforts on educating factory workers as well as fine-tuning the production process to minimize quality issues. Regarding Customer Support, we have recently added dedicated staff to reply inquiries both via email and social media in order to provide responses in a more timely fashion.

We have not decided on when the next round of recruitment will be so please stay tuned.

Finally, are we looking at more scale model related accessories?

What collabs are we looking at for the last 3 quarters? We have confirmed a new collaboration with a street-fashion company from the States that I am hugely excited about. We are also working with a number of race teams on developing model cars together which has been simply a dream come true. Announcements for these will be coming in Q3 so stay tuned for that.

The short answer is YES! We have introduced the wheels/rims and racing pits garage recently but it will be up to the collectors to tell us what they love and what they would like us to develop in the future. We are all about listening to our collectors so please drop us a line in our social media pages to let us know! --

MORRIS MINI (RALLY)

CASTING REMARKS

! have 4 variations of MINI’s in their catalogue and out of curiosity I ordered myself two. One is the ‘177 Rally Cooper’ and the other being the ‘Union Jack Mini Cooper’. Before I got them, I had a bit of buyer’s remorse worried about what the cars would be like in relation to details. However, when they arrived and were unboxed, I was pleasantly surprised

NEW

MINI on the block!

No one can resist a Mini. It’s too cool for school and has been the perfect all rounder car for many generations.

Of course, I talk about the classic MINI we grew up watching on the Italian Job not the new one that looks like a Mini Monster. The classic has charm, excitement, heart one of those cars people fall in love with, it has an emotional connect. This magic extends into the model car world, where even the most hardcore JDM or Italian Exotics Collector would cave for a nice little MINI.

I prefer getting the negatives out of the way so, starting, it would been so much better if the wheels were rubber instead of plastic. The rally lights on the ‘177 Rally MINI’ could have been the same as the headlights which would have given the whole car a completely different look and distinction. And finally, the bonnet and door hinges are large and clunky, downside they look ugly, upside they are quite firm and solid. Apart from all of that we are talking about a pretty good 1:64 Mini.

Opening parts by way of bonnet and doors the interior and engine bay are not detailed at all, understandable at the price point. But the exterior details certainly review well. I’m really pleased about the replication on the wheels. This is in TOMICA territory. Nice paint, great body work details, the tampos looked painted on, solid weight, rolling wheels but pushes it just a bit more are those sports hubs synonymous with MINIs.

New Kids on the diecast block called HK TINY Models

Overall, I’m a really satisfied bean. If you are a MINI fan, I would highly recommend getting one for yourself or even the entire range of MINIs from HK TINY. They have a nice green one as well which I wouldn’t mind getting for myself. The first generation of MINI remained almost unchanged for forty-one years. The last of them left the factory on October 4, 2000. Altogether, around 5,500,000 of those vehicles were ever produced.

COUNTACH THIS!

Fortunately, we didn’t miss is, ordered one and then sat mesmerized looking at for a while. First of all we feel it is highly under rated so, we are rating it: Brilliant. Exterior detail is plush, I love the wheels which are perfectly period attentive it has many opening parts. It feels solid and for those who like to ‘play’ with their models the wheels roll fine.

While CastHeads around the world were distracted by Tomica Ferrari’s, Pandems, Rocket Bunnies and RWBs Tomica slowly nudged a 1:43 scale Premium model Lamborghini LP-500S into the market and quietly slipped away…

Then it has many opening parts which is, something of a novelty since is most 1:43 scale models are sealed. The scissor doors open, the rear engine bay cover flips up and Tomica’s cool party trick, flip lights. I love the ‘aero’ spoiler at the back it was one of my favourite things about this 80’s poster child. Cabin interior isn’t much to hold a candle to, which is sad because it doesn’t compliment the opening scissor doors, however they did try to do some highlighting with the engine. But, the glory is in the exterior. The rear has nice detail, all tampos are in the right place, again the 80’s alloy wheels are just drool worthy it’s a great model and it’s a surprise that we didn’t see more of these getting picked up.

If you are a Lambo fan, this is definitely one for the collection.

CASTING REMARKS

THE SUBARU BRAT

The plucky little BRAT by Subaru has always been a favourite of mine. And, true to its name, it was the Brat of the lot, at the time.

Starting off, we know that Ronald Reagan had a Subaru BRAT and loved it. It was used on his ranch for transporting Llamas (not the Lorenzo kind). When it was dropped in 1979 it had a lot going for itself. America was going through an energy crisis, big American pick ups were guzzlers and the usual Japanese front runners were still hacking it on 2-wheel drive. Then, like a double rainbow Subaru introduces the BRAT.

Exterior details needless to say are faultless. I looked at many pictures of the actual jeep at various angles and compared and compared them with the DNA Model and I’m happy to report that again, everything is in the right place and everything is there. Stickers, badges the works.

Cheap, quirky and 4WD at the flip of a button. Another fun fact to know: this was never ever sold in Japan. Instead it hit the American, Canadian, Australian, European and New Zealand markets only. What IS found in Japan are the grey imports for the die-hards. For diehard CastHeads, DNA Collectibles has given us well put together 1/43 scale, resin model with their impeccable attention to detail.

Jump seats were added to the back to bypass the higher ‘onion tax’ imposed on small trucks.

This and many other choice pieces built by DNA Collectibles can be found at www.dnacollectibles.com with international shipping available.

It always surprises me how they achieve the interior details on something so small. The seat covers are period perfect, the dash board is detailed but again to the level of being an actual replication of the real deal.

The Subaru BRAT was all about fun which was reflected in their communication.

I first got into cars when I was around 3 years old. living in South Florida, my grandfather would have me hand him tools as he needed them, I watched immensely while sitting on the motor or laying under the car as he would build these motors from the ground up, or just perform routine maintenance. I always wanted to learn more. I still remember the first time he brought me to the track.. The smell of the race fuel and rubber burning, the loud screams from the open headers, the sound of the tires snapping when the cars launched. I was hooked, I loved

CUSTOMS OFFICE

every aspect of it. And as an avid car enthusiast, I try to incorporate my love of cars into everything that I can. Including Spoolin Street. Spoolin Street is a company that specializes in 1/64 Diecast and dioramas, to appeal to collectors by portraying a realistic representation of a vehicle that looks like it has a great back-story to it. Whether it be a freshly built track car that has 2 laps under it’s belt, a fully rusted out barn find that has been sitting for 40 years or literally anything in between.

When I start a build I try to achieve the most realistic outcome possible, which is the same process I apply to my scratch built dioramas, And all of my photos. These days when I’m not leaning over an engine bay, I’m most likely creating a scale version of one from scratch. These little cars have gotten me through some wild moments in my life, and I’m glad to be a part of this crazy hobby.

The Suzuki Jimny has been around for a long time. But it wasn't the normal micro-SUV that got a lot of diecast attention, unlike its bigger more expensive cousins. The model has been compared to a smaller version of the much storied Mercedes G Wagon, and we at Castheads Magazine agree wholeheartedly.

But in 2019 that is changing due to a slew of Jimny models coming to us in both 1:18 and 1:64 scales. BM Creations has been developing both scales of the model and is not only offering both scales of the model, but also offering add-on accessories (much like the real one) so that you can make your model unique. It also comes in two variants but also in four different colours. We have decided to feature the 2019 Suzuki Jimny Sierra in bright Kinetic Yellow black top.

First of all, the details are amazing. The attention to the minute aspects of the model speaks volumes for the manufacturer. The worked closely with the engineers over at the Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan to replicate it to perfection. The chassis sits on a frame much like the real vehicle with independent suspension so that you can pose the model in an action situation. The model features opening front hood, and all three doors. The only thing we would

have really liked on an otherwise expertly made model is... Nothing. Its just that good. Well a wheel cover for the spare tire would've been nice. The front grille, the lights, turn lamps and decals are in stunning shape and order. The luminous yellow paint is certainly attention grabbing and the hollow 5-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in proper treaded tires.

The Suzuki Jimny will soon be available on www.bmcreationscompany.com

We will release interior and under carriage photos once the model is released as there are some parts of the model that the manufacturer wants to be a surprise. And the latest new is that this model is now officially endorsed by the Suzuki Motor Co.

We are really looking forward to getting our hands on the final version of this model in a few weeks. Till then you, like us, will have to see the images found on the CastHeads Magazine FB @castheads. Words + Design - Lance K Müller

The Hot Wheels® Car Culture Team Transporters are hugely popular and in demand that its becoming nigh impossible to get them in certain parts of the world. But do you know that there are some really nice options in their basics line that are often overlooked that really nice to display cars on?

DIECAST DISPATCH

The Hot Wheels Ramp Truck is one such gem. Designed by the one and only Larry Wood, this model was released in 1991 (It has a base date of 1986 since it was a slightly modified version of another model, the Wrecking Rig) and has a removable ramp. This particular model is from the 1996 Race Team II series, has the blue and white particular to that series, metal body in blue and unpainted base, six 5-spk wheels and is purportedly made in China.

The Baja Bug featured here is quite interesting too. Again from the 1996 Race Team II series, this particular model has blackwall tires, and a metal base stamped with 1983, is apparently made in India and the name "NITHIA" tampo'ed on the sides and is also designed by Larry Wood, and made it's debut in 1984.

In April 1927, the first Volvo Car drove into the world. The ÖV4 was a small convertible and was followed up by a closed car, the PV4. One year later, Volvo started to build trucks on the same chassis as the ÖV4: in 1928 the LV40 saw the Swedish roads for the first time, just over 90 years ago. It is time to take a closer look to the history of one of the worlds largest truckcompanies: Volvo Trucks. Of course at a smaller scale!

Conrad was the first company to bring a series of heritage Volvo trucks in 1:43 around 30 years ago. The series consists of 4 historical vehicles: the 1928 LV40, the 1946 LV153, the 1947 LV293 and the newest Last Vagn in this range is the very popular Volvo Titan or L385 from 1951. The Conrad models are not very sophisticated nor highly detailed, but because of their historical significance a very welcome addition to a Volvo model truck collection. Another early Volvo came from Hart Smith Models England with a fantastic L340 from 1950 for the Swedish Cola distribution. And just recently Tekno made a LV40 for the Volvo Trucks Merchandise collection. This model is almost the same as the older Conrad, but higher detailed with nice mirrors and lights. Wiking made the successor

of the Titan, the N88 in 1:87 in many versions. The toy car brand with its roots in Volvo truck history is of course Tekno Denmark! They made almost the entire range of Volvo trucks, starting with the long-nose Viking and the high and iconic F88 and F89. For me, Volvo Trucks became the second best thing with the introduction of the F12 Globetrotter in 1979. Globetrotter became trademark for luxurious longdistance trucks and every model truck maker had to have it in its portfolio. Tekno as one of the first. Recently, Neo Scales and WSI made the Globetrotter in the 1979 introduction colours in 1:43 and 1:50. 25 years ago, Volvo introduced the FH series which they renewed in 2012. On European roads the most common truck, by far. In 1:50 the first and second FH can be found in every price range.

Tekno and WSI in the lead, but also the large EMEK Volvo trucks are well worth their money. In the meantime, Volvo's on the other side of the world are quite different. Volvo's from Brazil or the USA are not quite the same as the ones I see in Europe. Longer noses, tougher looks and larger sizes are the most striking differences . In America the common scale for truck models is different too. 1:64 is what the Americans like. That saves a lot of space in the cabinets, that is for sure! Collecting Volvo Truck models must be very hard, since there is an overload available. Many producers make them in even more different colours and company prints. Where do you begin? I try to follow with a small collection, to have at least the range of real Volvo Trucks.

BEASTS OF

BURDEN Over the course of automotive history there are always those stand out models that redefined design and define cultures. Vehicles that have given its owners a sense of freedom, support and accomplishment. Vehicles that have allowed them to see and experience so much more. Vehicles that have played an intrinsic part in our ability to move and get places efficiently. They are the CastHeads Beasts of Burden.  WORDS + DESIGN BY NIGEL J DE ZILWA 

1918 FORD MODEL T

MODEL ‘T’

THE MIGHTY

BEASTS OF BURDEN

In 1908 automobile visionary and industrialist Henry Ford watched with pride as the first Ford A rolled of the production line. His dream to build a car far more efficiently, faster production time and more affordable to the masses has come true. 10 years later the car has become more refined, sells well, and becomes a crucial contributor to the hauling of goods and services across America. A perfect example is this beautiful Ford Model ‘T’ Runabout and Trailer built by ERTL models

This model is part of a ‘Bank’ Series where the highly detailed model also doubles up as a coin bank. These are pretty rare making them good collectible items and they come with a certificate of authenticity reinforcing their ‘collectible pedigree’.

Although rare this particular model can still be found floating here and there online if you look hard enough so far, we found 2 of this and 1 special edition and prices range between $35 to $60 without shipping. Shipping to Asia will cost you double in some cases because of the weight.

But, be warned this is yet another slipper slope in the CastHeads world. ERTL has done a variation of this in a beautiful metallic red and, they have several different other variations for various brands like GULF, Dr. Pepper, Toy R Us, FORD, etc.

Also we may have some light at the end of the tunnel, the featured model was procured in Malaysia. One or two BookXcess bookshops have quite a number of Limited Edition ERTL Bank Models along with fuel pumps and 1:25 accessories best is to call them and find out where exactly.

The metal key and the access panel to get to your money. Not exactly Ocean's Eleven proof but such a great diecast model.

Side profile of a classic, the tires can be removed and washed to keep them nice and white.

The money goes in here.

The actual certificate of authenticity on a fake background.

THE TRANS PORTER

BEASTS OF BURDEN Icon of pop culture, hippie god on wheels, workhorse, adventurer, traveler and of course the coolest name of all The Transporter. The VDub Bus, Samba Van, T2, Beach Kombi etc, etc, has been around for a long long time and you still find them on the roads all over the world in varying condition.

We give you the ultimate Beast of Burden.

One of our favorite scale models of the VDub van is this here Maisto 1:24 with opening back doors and engine bay. The paint job on this is brilliant, the dropped wheels – wicked and of course the minimal flow of the body without the usual bumpers. If CastHeads got a VDub van it would be something similar.

VOLKSWAGEN T2 HAULER With so many new 1:64 entrants into the market Hot Wheels suddenly find themselves in the uncomfortable position of having to come up with new and improved ideas all the time. So far, this new hauler series, seems to be the ticket. We love the VW Hauler with the Porsche it’s simply Classic cool and, HW is coming out with another using the Porsche 356A casting. On the list.

GREENLIGHT COLLECTIBLES 1:64

VOLKSWAGEN T2 VAN Greenlight has had VDub vans as part of their line up for a while now. And they have some new ones coming out. Movie based VW Vans, petrol branded versions in all colors, in fact they have a complete collection called ‘VDub’ which sees regular releases.

HOTWHEELS 1:64

VOLKSWAGEN T2 VAN

Tomica came out with this in 2017 as well as a flatbed version. They haven’t had a variation but then Tomica is not of the variation producing kind. Tomica don’t play like that. But this is such a great casting that deserves repeated praise. Definitely worth hunting down and owning one.

This is huge! Not just in terms of news, at 1:12 scale it really is quite large. It is the ultimate BOHO VW. If you are looking for the hippiest of wedding vehicles this is it. With ‘All you Need is Love’ blasting through its medieval stereo (not included) this is the perfect mode of transport to your Woodstock themed wedding. But, lets not forget that this is a scale model and would instead be a great wedding present for the afore mentioned hippy wedding. Sunstar went all out with this because the detailing is spectacular and the finish is quite premium.

From Left to right: Beautiful tanned colors with realistic detailing right down to seatbelt availability, the rear engine has actual wiring and hosing in 1:12 scale and the open sun roof will be a nightmare in dusty neighborhoods

WRANGLER JEEP RUBICON EDITION

The name JEEP has been dragged through the mud ever since the Second World War. It earned its reputation for being on of the best war machines and the Willys Jeep was know for its tough reliability, at least until the Toyota Land Cruiser. Jeep didn’t stop making JEEPs. The featured JEEP is the JK model two door short wheel base, Rubicon Edition released since 2016. When we picked this up it was essentially for the FALKEN branding and livery but on closer inspection the detail is pretty good. The only opening part is the detachable roof, pretty basic but, ok. However if you are into outdoor diecastography this is a great model to play around with.

From Left to right: Life can be pretty rough for the JEEP which is why you have the option to cover up the back, or take it off. Is there rest for this plucky short wheel base? NO!! Ever ready with dual tow hooks for hardcore hauling

This too is in 1:18 scale but, at half the price. Now, this is where it gets tricky for you. You friends will all know ‘Bad Boys’ and will “oooohhh and ahhhhhhh” at your 911 but at half the price you can be a Porsche connoisseur and have your mental casthead and petrol-head friends tip their helmets at your taste. So here we have to equally important Porsche models and you are a Porsche enthusiast, if you are on ‘cost’ we suggest the Porsche RSR if you can afford to be ‘Posh’ then the choice is a nobrainer. This Porsche booty is on another level. No one can deny it. The duck-tail spoiler, the paint job that compliments, fat wheels, we love it!

Pretty sparse interior but some attempt has been made to give the cockpit a bit of definition.

Sponsored by BOSCH and Defense’ Mondial this Red and Yellow liveried Porsche stood out in a crowd of Martini’s, It looks raw simply because it was raw. This is a homologated racer stripped of refinement and outfitted with a 2.8 Liter screamer that pushed almost 300Hp with out the need for a turbocharger. German Genius at its best. (Gearbox issue? French Driver)

Flared quarter panel hiding those fat wheels, red flames lick up the sides this car has so much character.

Pure class. We don’t know whether this car should be displayed front first or rear first More detail in the dials that feature color displays, we see speakers in the doors, definetely more to see in this interior

In real life this is a rare Porsche. It features the insane Howden K27 Turbo attached to the M64 engine that dropped 355Bhp and only 1,500 of them have been built. GT Spirit have done a really excellent job of re-creating this beauty. The paint job and finish is perfect (really we can’t find other descriptors) body work is all in place everything about this model goes in line with its price tag and really for something this well built we cant complain. If you are married and you do buy one of these, you WILL have some explaining to do but once your done and sleeping on the sofa... you have this to look at.

Massive & Magnificent Masterpiece Wo rd s + P ix By D a v id Ho u s to n

Lohr Eurolohr Auto Carrier Trailer by NZG

for Mercedes-Benz

Every once in a while when you're out and about driving down the road and end up coming across one of those massive auto carriers loaded up to the max with many types of vehicles arranged in complicated positions, do you also wonder to yourself 'How do they do that?'. Well, wonder no more, because NZG has the perfect 1/18th scale learning tool, for the curious.

Like some many 1/18th scale collectors around the world, I too was thrilled when NZG with fabricator KengFai debuted their impressive 1/18th scale auto transporter and box trailers at the fall 2018 Chinese Toyfair and again in 2019 at the Nuremberg Spielwarenmesse. It's with extreme dedication and passion that NZG have created such a massive masterpiece. Like many other collectors, I was impressed that they displayed these out of the blue, and evidently not alone with a surprised and enthusiastic roar of joy being heard around the world on-line in many 1/18th scale forums. First thing that you will notice about this model is, the box that it comes in. This box is really long and not the lightest thing either, despite NZG revising the weight down from an earlier prototype (as stated on video). With that being said, you will certainly need a buddy to help carry it and help you get it to your vehicle. Luckily, I have a good relationship, with my local Mercedes-Benz dealer, as they helped to carry it out. I only needed to buy the trailer and that model box alone took up the entire width of my mid-size German sport sedan's rear seat. Now, when you get home, you might have to call over a buddy to help you pull the Styrofoam protection shell case out of it's carton box. It needs a good deal of grip and gentle force to be removed. I highly recommend that you take a weekend or holiday for the unboxing task to fully appreciate it. Once opened, you will be mesmerized, thrilled with this piece and for all of the accessories included. You will also be grateful that NZG provides a user booklet, you will need that to get around all of the small attachments for use.

With this one, you can tell that NZG took this task(dare I say, an engineering challenge) with so much passion, with a plethora of exquisite functional details in order to bring this product to life. Outstanding engineering in miniature & multiple material construction bring forth such an amazingly functional model. This 1/18th scale Lohr auto transporter really mimics the 1/1 version to a fault. It was truly a wise move for NZG on creating this type of trailer. Luckily, many collectors (like myself) whom have already purchased their 1/18th scale Actros models could now go on-line and buy this trailer and then marry it to their already outstanding Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor/ cab models or, just buy the freshly updated digital mirror Actros+Trailer combination also offered at MercedesBenz. Within, you are also provided two "IKEA" like tools, that you will need to raise and lower the front portion of the trailer(keep and store, everything, you will need it at some point). You can also display the trailer alone, as it features two pop out and drop down stand that supports the front portion of the trailer, when it is not attached to the MercedesBenz Actros cab. Speaking of Mercedes-Benz, this is their first official release of this new trailer & newer Actros/trailer combo by NZG, which is currently available through Mercedes-Benz online shops and by ordering at their dealerships(Although, some online stores in Germany are selling them too, but at a slightly higher price). If you have missed out, no need to worry, very soon NZG will start releasing these in their own NZG packaging for a wider market. So, if you don't have access to a Mercedes-Benz dealership locally or on-line, just wait a bit and buy the NZG official version. I'm curious to see if any changes are made. Although, I

suspect only a new rear number plate only (Keeping my fingers crossed for additional surprises on NZG's release). I really would have liked if the many attachments for the wheel holders and slats were magnetized. I often found myself nervous, like playing a game of "Jenga", in which case if I made the wrong move, then something would drop off causing me to start over again. However, the pros outweigh the cons here. That said, what you end up with, is a truly scaled down auto carrier trailer with endless possibilities for display. It's fantastic that NZG gives you every chance to go in and add on additional smaller details for whichever way you might want to personalize your trailer. NZG did not miss a beat with this one, it's all there detail wise. From movable loading ramps that pullout and push into the back of the trailer for storage, like is done on the 1/1 transporter. Then there are the many wheel holding brackets that click into the perforated aluminum girders to limit vehicle wheel movement/rolling, so that your models won't roll off the trailer when being displayed. NZG even provides exact 1/18th scale fencing that would be used by the people loading on 1/1 vehicles, so that they won't risk falling off of the real trailer. Again, it's all there. When you look at the functionality of the trailer itself, it is truly brilliant. The trailer is a two part/tandem design, with the front portion physically connected/fixed to the tractor-cab and the second part is connected by pivot joint that allows the trailer to turn from left to right like the 1/1 for tight turning situations. This is the first time that a 1/18th tandem axis point auto hauler trailer has been done in such a large scale for a mass production release. The most impressive part of this trailer

is, that it can be adjusted to almost any position that you want. With only realistic limitations, it's virtually like the 1/1 in almost every way. NZG worked with Lohr to develop this model to near 1/1 capabilities/articulation and it really shows. For them to be ambitious enough to bring it to mass production for collectors is just remarkable. Both trailer platforms can be articulated up or down, plus individual risers within each sections of the trailers can be adjusted up or down as well in order to adjust to load as many as eight vehicles onto the trailer. The trailer is extremely versatile and can be adjusted depending upon whichever type of vehicle that is loaded on. The rear portion of the trailer features three rear risers. For those risers there are additional metal wheel placement adjusters & slates included(these are the parts, that I strongly would suggest magnetization),

so that different lengths of 1/18th scale vehicles can be loaded at different diagonal angles on the trailer. Also the rear of the trailer can be extended out, by lowering the back "bumper plate" and pulling out the extension, so that a longer vehicle could be placed on the bottom rear section of the trailer.

Again, no detail was missed. They even replicated the hidden operator controls located behind a silver flap, between the two right side rear wheels. The hidden operator controls swing out for

access, like the 1/1. Also, details like trailer side marker lights are excellently replicated, and the wheels and tires are also done to a high standard. This trailer design appears to be modeled after the Eurolohr 200 Series by Lohr. The exception is, that I noticed that the front portion of attached trailer doesn't go over the cab of the truck (Due to the Actros having a slightly higher/raised "dome" roof over the cab). That being said, I am sure than many collectors are in high hopes that NZG will be constructing more 1/18th scale Tractor-Cabs for their trailers. My fingers are crossed for a 1/18th scale NZG Volvo FH16 & Mercedes-Benz Actros 2443. Also, I'd really like to see an extended cab-over version of the Eurolohr 200 Series trailer for an Actros 2443, just to fit an additional vehicle or two. That said, I am looking forward to what's coming next from 1/18th scale from NZG

Featured here is the MercedesBenz Dealer Edition Release trailer alone, however you can also buy the trailer+tractor cab combo as well (currently at Mercedes-Benz). For my photographs, in addition to showing Mercedes-Benz miniatures, I have also chosen to arrange other automotive brands for versatility of display on this trailer. This demonstrates how truly versatile it really is for all 1/18th scales PKWs/ Passenger & Light Vans/SUV vehicles. The overall heft of this model really makes you feel great in the fact that you are getting a quality product. I also, think that the price is really fair, considering the amount of various metal materials used. In addition to the overall size, I am in awe at the amount of functionality engineered into it, as well as the abundance of details. It's truly a worthy piece or dare I say Masterpiece again. If you only plan to buy one 1/18th scale this year, make sure that it's this trailer or the Actros+Trailer combo at Mercedes-Benz, if you don't already have an Actros in your collection. You'll be glad that you have added one. Side note: The 1/64th auto transporter game is heating

up again as well. Some years ago, Tomica kicked it off with their 1/64th scale Tomytec Hino Auto Transporter. Next, SpecCast created their 1/64th Auto Carrier trailers and now, this year, a new fresh company out of China called "Motenle Original Collection" released a their own functional auto carrier trailer in 1/64th scale. Motenle Original Collection comes with true multifunctional detailing. Details like adjustable loading ramp for the top section that swings up and locks into place. Meanwhile the bottom is just as impressive, if you need space for an additional car, just extend it and connect the scaled down chains for support! Now, the bad news. These trailers are extremely hard to get. It took me contacting two people in order just to get me three from China. Price wise, they weren't initially expensive at around $50 bucks each, but after multiple shipping 3 times and customs, they more than doubled in price. If you have connections in China, don't miss out. It's great time in the hobby, there is something for every miniature collector in multiple scales these days. We are truly living in a diecast renaissance!

A ROVER OF MANY FACES

DIECAST DISPATCH

The name Land Rover evokes a sense of adventure in many a car enthusiasts mind. They are synonymous with desert safaris, jungle treks, and getting into place that most other "off-road" vehicles couldn't. Nowadays the brand has become famous for its super luxury SUVs and must-have for celebrity WAGS. But we decided to get nostalgic and go back and look at things the Land Rovers were actually meant for

The Land Rover Defender 110 saw many active duties with a variety of private and public services with the Police, Fire Brigade, the Military and the Royal Mail to name a few. This is the Hot Wheels Land Rover MkII released in 1997 features a less active, but nevertheless, a much needed service to the general population, an electrical service/repair livery in eye catching bright orange. Its registration "RGW 404" is cast directly into the metal.

HANDYMAN

Though not the eco-friendliest vehicle on Earth, it could get you to places that usually required horses or other animals to be ridden to get there. The robust suspension, expertly built chassis enabled the Land Rover to access most places. This model was released by Matchbox in 2017. The Defender 110 features black paint with a more North American forest treeline and the words "Explore Your World" on the sides.

EXPLORER

The short wheelbase Land Rover Defender 90 is still extremely popular with the weekend explorer crowd. 2018 released Matchbox Land Rover Defender in Mint Green.

The Land Rover Series III was introduced in 1971. This immediately became an intrinsic part of the British farming landscape. And with the introduction of more space and weight carrying capabilities, it became really popular with utility companies and building contractors. 2019 released Land Rover Series III Pick Up is nicely covered in red paint, white roof with a winch and perfectly done grille. Light tampos make this a very good looking model.

WORKHORSE

The Land Rover Defender 100 was one of the most widely excepted models in the world. Its popularity with the public and private consumers were unlimited, and with so its ability to become so many versions of itself, it could almost tackle any challenge thrown its way. The 2018 released Hot Wheels 2015 Land Rover Double Cab is one of the lesser know varients of the iconic model.
