Our family at Blubaugh Angus Ranch is happy to welcome all of you to our 10th Annual “Pride of the Pasture” Auction. This year we will be offering the opportunity to bid on our quality Angus and commercial cattle both in person and online through a live streaming partner. Your continued patronage and support is why we’re able, and willing to produce high quality stock year after year in hopes that we can not only improve our own operation, but yours as well.

This auction’s bull lineup serves as a major transition point for our operation. Over the past several years we have been retaining some of the best bulls we’ve ever raised, as our older herd sires have aged out. An incredible Reflex son, a powerhouse son of Quarterback and our very own Bluegrass 904. We’re excited for you to see some of the first calves from these up-and-coming Blubaugh herd sires. In addition to these new sires, we still have calves from ranch staple sires such as Explorer and Windbreaker available for your breeding needs.

Additionally, we’re able to bring a consistent set of Angus females from all over the region that truly exemplify maternal character and production quality. The reliable bloodlines of elite donor females like Champion Hill Peg 8086 and SAV Blackcap May 4136 are peppered throughout the catalog. Other staple cow families such as Abigale, Elsa Erica and Elba are present throughout our offering. We genuinely hope you’re able to find a female that’ll fit your operation’s needs.

Cattle will sell under the suggested Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association (http://www.angus.org/Pub/suggested_ sale_terms.pdf). We guarantee that all bulls are fertile to the best of our knowledge and have passed a breeding soundness exam prior to the sale. Although all bulls have passed a BSE, we know certain problems can arise after you receive your purchase. We guarantee all bulls against breeding injury and to be sound breeders for the first breeding season which is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls. We will provide you with a satisfactory replacement, if available, or issue a credit equal to the bull’s purchase price minus the salvage value received for that bull. This is not a life insurance policy, however. Selling two-thirds interest and full possession on all service-age bulls, unless otherwise noted.

Free delivery on bulls within a 250-mile radius for purchase of $3000 and up. Blubaugh Angus Ranch can make arrangements for female delivery at buyer’s expense.

Scott and his leadership counterparts across the country have been relentless over the last few years in their push to restore Country-of-Origin (COOL) Labeling to the United States meat industry. A major component of this fight is clarification of the “Product of USA” label. Currently, even meat that is shipped from another country and REPACKAGED in the U.S. can carry the “Product of USA” label. This legal misuse of the label confuses consumers and robs America’s cattle ranchers of the ability to distinguish their products from the foreign supply of meat.

While a return to mandatory COOL has not yet happened, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently announced a way to close the “Product of USA” loophole. The USDA has released a proposed rule with new regulatory requirements to better align the “Product of USA” label claim with consumer understanding of what the claim means. The proposed rule allows the voluntary “Product of USA” or “Made in the USA” label claim to be used on meat, poultry and egg products only when they are derived from animals born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the United States.

While the rule is not yet finalized, it signals a more transparent beef market is on the horizon. Scott and his colleagues welcome the rule change and are pleased to see their hard work paying off for ranchers nationwide.

1.FEEDING: Remember – the bull is a yearling or a long yearling and still has some growing to do. Feed the young bull well. Hay and grain plus protein supplement will be adequate. You should feed 5 to 10 pounds of grain and 1 to 2 pound of protein supplement in addition to free choice of high quality hay from now until the start of breeding season is recommended, if practical. After the first breeding season, continue to feed liberally so the bull will grow out well.

2.BREEDING SEASON: Plan to use the new bull in a restricted 45 – 60 day breeding season the first time. Observe him closely to be sure he is serving and settling females.

3.NUMBER OF COWS: The yearling bull should be used on a minimal number of cows or heifers. The number should be governed by his age at the start of the breeding season. The following is a guide:
