Recommendation Letter Dear Sir / Madam, I have been a Director and an Architect at Turenscape International Limited, where I had the privilege of working with Casey Li. It is my pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Casey in support of her future endeavors.

I have known Casey for over two months at Turenscape. The work produced by her as a intern architect demonstrates her through understanding of architectural design, organization skills and planning skills.

Working at a company with over five hundred professionals in four areas of focus (architecture, landscape architecture, environmental design, and urban planning and design), Casey was able to benefit from the opportunity to collaborate with professionals of various backgrounds and strengths. Her design ideas align with Turenscape’s philosophy which prioritizes unifying nature and man in a harmonious way through sustainable design.

Over the term from June 1st till August 11th 2017, Casey took on the responsibility of an intern architect for several national design projects. She was an asset to projects such as the Xiamen Waterfront Masterplan and the Beijing Universal Business Park presentation. Additionally, one of her main responsibilities was the schematic design of buildings for the Qihe National Wetland Park. For this project she made significant contributions to the design of a wetland museum and private villas for the park. She also worked well with her colleagues, offering suggestions and assistance to others whenever possible.

Her dedication and competence show through her persistence to improve and refine designs, and I can attest that she has a professional attitude and great potential in the industry.

Casey's combination of motivation and hard work in the architectural field make her an ideal candidate for her future prospects. I believe that she has the potential for a career as an architect and will be a great asset to any firm.

Located at the corner of Queen St. and Jarvis St., Moss Park is one of many parks available to the communities in the core of downtown Toronto. The intent of the Moss Park Community Center would be to provide a space for the services most needed by the community as well as center to direct users to facilities available close by. The community center would be a location for

all residents to easily access multiple amenities, and hopefully become a central place for all people in the area to build a community. The Moss Park area is surrounded by several services available to the Aboriginal and First Nations community, and one of the primary facilities in the community center would be to become a center of operations and communication for the

services in the area, helping to direct community members to services along with providing additional resources in the center itself. Other facilities to help serve the community also include a Service Canada center, a daycare, a multipurpose hall, a community kitchen, and a library.

Just north of the Kwartha Lakes of Ontario lies the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, a park of over thirty thousand hectares containing more than one hundred different habitats and the plethora of flora and fauna that call it home. Close to the southern border of the Wildlands is Fishog Lake, just over two kilometers at its longest and over two hundred acres of smooth water surrounded by trees and wildlife. Located on the protrusion that splits

the lake, is the Fishog Lake Boathouse, a stepping stone for beginner water sports lovers and a stop on the portage trail for canoe and backpacking enthusiasts alike. Guests will be able to rent canoes or kayaks for the day and explore either side of the lake, as well as have a place to wash up and relax after the day is done. Likewise, seasoned outdoorsmen can take a break from their journey and have a quick bite or stock up on supplies at the cafe and

store.

The Boathouse consists of several smaller structures that descend along with the land towards the lake. As guests move between the facilities of the Boathouse, the division between interior and exterior is softened, with structures that open onto the site, allowing for omni directional views and circulation. Guests can meander from space to space, moving through the trees within the site and towards the lake to cast off.

In the Eastern province of Shandong, China, is the growing city of Qihe, one of many cities in China striving to become an ecocity in addition to becoming a recognized eco-tourist destination.

The Qihe Wetland Park is a project commissioned by the city, wherein Turenscape would design and collaborate with other consultants to produce working drawings for the master plan of the park. Spanning over ten kilometers, and multiple

ecosystems, the Wetland Park will include facilities for visitors to delve into the wetlands areas, stay in different accommodations, and enjoy contemporary facilities throughout the park.

Structures proposed for the park would include welcome centers, commercial spaces, and different lodging residences.

A wetland conservation museum would be located in the northern section of the park which would

give visitors a chance to learn more in-depth about the flora, fauna, and ecosystems inside the park as well as the importance of wetland habitats and wetland conservation. The museum would coalesce indoor and outdoor structures to create spaces that are educational and experiential, all featuring highlighted components of wetland ecosystems.

The Universal Business Park located in the northwest sector of Beijing City is a building complex of low to mid rise buildings home to many international enterprises’ business offices. The Park is currently expanding to include new buildings and facilities, as well as improve on the current landscaping and urban planning of the site.

Turenscape’s proposal for the development of future structures and landscaping additionally involve creating distinguishable points of entry into the business park, creating structured circulation pathways for vehicles and pedestrians, along with making meaningful spaces from designated parklettes. Signage within

the Business Park would be updated to distinctive markers that would allow visitors a simple means of navigation within the Park, and park amenities would be updated to be more easily accessible. Parkettes would have seasonal fauna displayed, visually engaging hardscapes, as well as pavilions for public use.

Displayed at the annual Winterlude Festival held in Ottawa, the installation was situated inside Major’s Hill Park where guests could wander across the snow covered paths to look at the various installations and sculptures as well as take part in the festivities.

The appearance of the installation would differ

depending on the time of day as well as the immediate weather conditions. During the sunny midmorning, the acrylic panels could be easily seen though revealing the structure and tree motif within, but as the sun set and snow began to fall, the panels would become opaque, screening the tree and emitting a muted light in the darkness.

Vision Media Conference Signage

The signage was designed in collaboration with Ryerson University’s Digital Fabrication Zone (DFZ) for the Vision Media Conference, an event organized by the Faculty of Communication and Design. This conference was a one-day creative learning experience where students could find the tools, processes, and

inspiration necessary to pursue their goals and create change in the media industry. Produced by a design team including architecture and interior design students and led

by DFZ mentor Duncan Sabiston, the team worked with the event organizers to design a sign that would that could be easily transported to multiple

conference locations and would be clearly recognizable to guests.

The final design was constructed from a wire cut foam piece bisected by an acrylic panel, with led lighting hidden in the wooden base, to create dynamic views from multiple angles and achieve what the clients had envisioned.

Framed within the backdrop of the historic 130-year-old Gladstone Hotel, ‘Come Up To My Room’ invites artists and designers to create immersive installations that stimulate the imagination and encourage discussion and dialogue between contributors and visitors alike.

The inspiration for the living wall came from wanting to create an installation that was not only interactive but had the ability to be a different experience based on multiple visits. Looking at how humans interact with systems in nature such as coral reefs, we wanted to create something that could invoke the feeling of encroaching on a living

creatures and their defense mechanisms. Depending on if you go in alone or with a crowd of others, one can experience the installation as a dark alcove with only a peculiar murmur to indicate its active state, or see the installation come to life when it senses the presence of others and begins to swell, skin cracking open as it evolves.
