2019 Hall Stock Farm Production Sale

Fourth Edition

Production Sale 1 PM CST |

MARCH 26, 2019 | BERTHOLD, ND

Welcome Another year in the books and it’s hard to believe we are counting down the days for the fourth Tuesday in March. Northwest North Dakota has provided us with several environmental challenges yet again with another dry summer followed by brutal Arctic weather as we began calving in 2019. Thankfully we have a family dedicated to making sure the cattle are taken care of and we juggle schedules to make it all work. We do live in a land of extremes and we are impressed with how the cattle adapt and perform in this environment. When you purchase a bull from Hall Stock Farm, know that you are purchasing from a program where the cows are on a forage only ration and are culled for feet, udders, fertility and disposition. New in 2019 we are offering a true “Genetic Opportunity” where the buyer of “Lot 1” can select any female in our herd and flush her to a bull of their choice. This offer is not available to our 2018-born open heifers. Once again we are opening the embryo bank on both of our leading Angus donors as it has been fun to see their progeny performing successfully in the show ring, in the sale ring, but more importantly in the pasture! All bulls have been parent-verified to both sire and dam, tested for color if necessary and all genomic data has been incorporated into their EPD’s. Some color results are still not back from the ASA as of the day the catalog went to print, so updates will be available sale day or uploaded to the online version of the catalog when received. A few of the bulls were too young to report YW data, so that also will be available sale day. Bulls were fed a ration from J&R Feeds from Lake Norden, SD and we work closely on herd health with Dr. Kelly Schaefer and the Minot Veterinary Clinic. Thank you for expressing interest in our cattle and program. If you are ever in the area, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We feel this set of bulls looks the part and they are ready to go to work.

We strive to produce quality; building a reputation for functionality, productivity & structural integrity without compromising eye appeal

GENETIC OPPORTUNITIES

right to flush

N

ever before have we offered for sale the right to flush any female in our herd. Our focus has always been on quality, so the foundation of our cowherd is in check. The cows are managed on a forage only diet and run steep hills in the summer so good feet, udders, structural integrity and fertility are a must have with our females. With the sale of “831” and the misfortune of losing “717” this winter, we look forward to propagating a new female. On the Angus side you could choose an 831 daughter as they consistently raise quality year in and year out, regardless of what they are mated to. A fresh twist on our Angus genetic offering would be choosing a daughter of S Thrive JAS 5515. The first-calf Thrive daughters are excellent young Angus females and read with progressive EPDs. There are several promising females in our Simmental herd which we have not yet tapped. HABR Miss Alabama A337 claimed banners in three states and capped off her show career as Champion AOB female at the 2014 NILE. Her only daughter to date by W/C Lock Down Z216 sold for $9,500 through the 2016 Flash & Function sale. Her beautiful dam, HABR Bombshell X024, is still in production at the age of nine and consistently stamps her offspring with a captivating look. You could choose the dam of HABR Boomtown B434, Champion Simmental bull at the 2016 Black Hills Stock Show who sold to Double J Simmentals, Garretson, SD. Or choose the dam of HABR Miss Allure F815, the $15,000 open heifer by TJ Main Event we sold privately this fall. This opportunity is an exciting one to offer and we look forward to building a partnership with the buyer of Lot 1. Guaranteeing 6 transferrable embryos. Any embryos above the guarantee shall be split between the buyer and the seller. In the event an odd number of embryos are produced, the buyer of this genetic opportunity would receive the embryo. This offer is not available to our 2018 crop of open heifers.

She combines incredible phenotype with a different pedigree with a set of EPDs which are still relevant at the age of 11. o many factors come in to play when we decide to make the investment to propagate a cow. As a Pathfinder, “717” earned her place into our genetic nucleus the hard way by repeatedly weaning heavy calves and producing high selling bulls and heifers while maintaining optimal body condition and udder quality. She consistently transmits her stunning presence, power and phenotypic quality along with a gentle disposition. It is worth noting she raised a son, who in his first calf crop, produced a $10,500 Balancer bull for John Wohl of Baldwin, ND. We are offering you full access to the embryo bank on “717.” You pick the opportunity which best suits your interests. Choose a package of 3 or 5 embryos and get ready for the upside potential! Power, Performance and Presence describe this outstanding son of PVF Insight 0129. He is a wide based, big topped beef bull with an abundance of skeletal width and muscularity. This big scrotalled bull is extremely docile and uniquely flexible on the move considering how much mass he possesses. Numerically, the deepheeled bull presents an impressive set of EPDs ranking in the Top 1% of the breed in seven different traits, including a Ribeye EPD which is off the charts. His moderate-framed, big bodied dam has consistently raised bulls that have sold at the top of our sale. This big hipped, high-gaining April-born son of Insight and “831 shows why this mating has been so popular. He is so good in his skeletal design and has an abundance of upper and lower rib shape. He may be on the younger end of the offering, but his quality is unquestionably at the top. This summer Riley Schaefer of Des Lacs, ND campaigned a flush sister who ended the summer as the high point Angus heifer in ND. Another full sister was the second-high selling Angus female at the 2019 Black Hills Stock Show to Mikka Rogers, a young Angus enthusiast from Hulett, WY. Top 10% RE. Top 15% CW and $B.

One last big scrotalled son of GDAR Wisdom 377 out of a Sitz Tradition cow who has never missed. He was born twin to a heifer and was raised on his natural dam. An older, Montana-bred pedigree with stability built in. His dam and a maternal sister both qualified for Pathfinder status and the GDAR Wisdom 377 daughters have very tight udders. Big bodied, stout-made cattle are always fun to have around the place. A natural son of “Thrive “ and our “831” donor, he is days away from having a May birthday, but if you turn bulls out later, he will be grown up enough to breed some cows. We love the added shaped and muscularity this tight-sheathed bull offers. He has three full sisters in the replacement pen that have all been very popular with our visitors. Recommended for cows.

This guy is the beast of the bull pen and offers a unique, fresh pedigree for the Simmental breed. It is not often Zac, Levi and Ian all agree on something, but when we saw MAR Innovation 251 at stud on different days and compared notes we all agreed he was a must use for our program. Shortly after we saw a son, TJ Diplomat, surface out of the Triangle J program in NE and we were quick to use him in his first year. TJ MAIN EVENT 503B

I

t all started in the summer of 2013. Ian and I noticed an “O’Reilly Factor” heifer we really liked shown by the Aggen family from MN at the National Classic in Lincoln, NE. OMF Heather Z36 went on to be crowned Supreme Female at the Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Beef Expo. She later went on to sell for $22,000 in the 2013 NAILE Select Simmental Sale. In 2016 we noticed a flush was selling on OMF Heather Z36 in the Minnesota Beef Expo sale. We knew this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. After seeing the first progeny of TJ Main Event 503B in the spring of 2017, we thought it was a logical move to use him in this mating. March 26, 2019 we are offering the first three progeny. These three brothers emulate the quality and performance we had anticipated and we look forward to the siblings yet to be born.
