Notas Doradas Zijin - Continental Gold News / January 2021 - Edition Nº46

We support the goals of our employees In August, Diego Tuberquia, from the Department of Sustainability, will have been working at the Company for 11 years, and he started 2021 being happy. Thanks to the support of the Company and his own effort and sacrifice, he completed his Associate’s Degree in Community Management. “I can only thank those who supported me. I want to share what I have learned with the Company and my municipality”, Diego said, who also learned in the process to find balance in his roles as a father, son, worker, and student. “I adjusted as I progressed. Also, the support of my coworkers and my superiors was fundamental”. Like Diego, in 2020, 44 employees had the support of the Company to participate in higher education studies. Through the years this benefit has been granted to 128 employees, 89 of them to staff members and 39 to operating personnel. These individuals have continued growing academically in areas of knowledge such as: occupational health, social responsibility, projects, earth sciences, psychology, finances, and environment. The Company continues supporting the training initiatives of the members of the Zijin-Continental Gold family that wish to continue with their professional studies and achieve new goals”, Luisa Rivera Salazar, manager of recruitment and training department.

Zijin-Continental Gold contributed to the dreams of five coworkers

From our CEO

Publishing House: A bigger commitment with prevention We begin 2021 with many expectations and personal and work objectives have been set. Just like in 2020, we have to think responsibly this year about the context we are in and how it impacts our plans, as Covid-19 has not disappeared, and its presence makes a big difference in our lives. Last year I asked you on several occasions to not let the guard down facing the presence of this virus. Today, in the first month of the year, I am asking you the same, but this time thinking not just about us and our families, but also about our coworkers. The responsibility of protecting ourselves against Covid-19 does not end when we finish our shift and go back home to rest. In fact, it is in that moment when we have to extreme the measures. Going out of the mine commits us with the biggest challenge of all: to continue our daily lives with the precautions that we learned and repeat time and time again. Because when it’s time to resume our labor, we need to be healthy as to not to put our coworkers at risk and comply with the planned times. It is just the beginning of the year and our commitment has to be bigger, as we do not know how the situation is going to evolve, when will we have the chance to get vaccinated or how the coming months are going to be. Today is the time to take care of ourselves and to think about our health and the health of those that surround us. Many of those that have passed on due to Covid-19 contracted the virus from a relative that did not take care of him/herself or that did not believe in the virus. Let us not wait for a similar situation to happen to us. We can contain the virus. Let us take care of ourselves! Together, we can make the difference.

January 2021

In December with the campaign “Se vale soñar” (it´s okay to dream), 254 dreams of our coworkers were received, and they included wishes to have a house of their own, vehicles, trips, studies, entrepreneurial projects, health, among many others.

In one of the traditional nine nights before Christmas, our CEO, James Wang, randomly selected five numbers that corresponded to the dreams of Huber, Sergio, Rubén, Carlos, and Luz Amanda. Each one of them received this month a contribution of 5 million pesos from the Company, to help them build their wishes.

The message that we are left from those five coworkers is that we should never stop working towards our dreams and to continue following them with dedication until we reach them, even when sometimes they might seem impossible.

Sergio Alexander Vera Gómez, mine operator II Two years ago, we had this family dream of buying a new car. The contribution that the company gave me is very important for the down payment. I am thankful to Mr. James that gave me the luck to pick my number.”

Rubén Darío Pérez Pérez, heavy equipment operator III My dream is to be a mine supervisor in the company and to buy a car to travel with the family. This money is going to help me starting this dream, as I do not have a driver’s license and I am going to start there, with God's help”.

Carlos Andrés López, explosives assistant When my boss and María Elena called to congratulated me, I could not believe it. My income has decreased because of this pandemic, so my wish is to invest this money in my son's studies”.

Huber Enrique De Ángel, automotive electromechanical technician My dream for many years has been to have my own house for me and for my family. That is why I am saving money with the Employee Fund, and I am using the contribution that the Company gave me to increase the savings and continue adding to reach it”. Luz Amanda Benítez Ramírez, general services assistant My dream is to see my daughter succeed and to continue paying the debt of my house, so that money goes directly to reduce that debt. Never lose hope and trust in God for those dreams to come true”.

We train to improve With the strategy “Learning, doing” we train as we work Through this program an employee learns and develops his/her skills at the workplace, having first-hand knowledge and experiences, under real work conditions, focused on safety, operational capacity, and performance of the machine, under the supervision and guidance of qualified instructors. The Mine Superintendence started this program in mid-September 2020 with 10 operators of heavy equipment in underground mining, with the support of Training and Development. Initially in the Bolter, Jumbo and Jumbo DL machines. The program is estimated to be a training of 240 man-hours, directed and evaluated individually according to skills. For this year, Training and Development has the objective of expanding the strategy Learning, Doing to other areas of the Company, improving the performance level, safety and productivity. Isidro Samaniego Núñez, Bolter instructor Being part of this strategy has been a great experience. I have liked it a lot and it has helped me to be a better person and to continue growing at a work level. I see it as a new challenge and a great opportunity”.

We continue updating our knowledge Through the training led by an instructor (ILT), and with the support of the provider of services and maintenance of SANDVIK equipment, the Mechanical Maintenance Department of the mine, reinforced and updated the knowledge in more than 20 technical subjects needed for the intervention of maintenance activities to underground mining equipment. To date, more than 80 technicians have been trained in hydraulic systems, electric systems, motor systems, interpreting hydraulic and electric plans, brake systems and general maintenance subjects focused on different machines, completing more than 360 man-hours.

Lorena Granda, Mechanical Maintenance division I learned about Sandvik equipment in these trainings and also about electric and hydraulic symbols, which gives us the foundation to perform and continue practicing and learning more”.

Let us reinforce our care at home against Covid-19 Faced with an increase in the number of cases in the country and in the department, we have to be more careful with the virus. The OHS division requires us to strictly follow the prevention and contention guidelines, as it is far too easy to let the guard down as time goes by. This time the OHS management gives us some recommendations to keep in mind when leaving our homes, during our breaks and for those that are working remotely. Let us remember that it is everyone's commitment to take care of ourselves and those that surround us. Covid-19 has not disappeared!

Use long sleeve clothes to go out. Tie your hair. Do not use earrings, bracelets, or rings. Put on the facemask right before leaving. Try not to use public transportation. If taking your pet out, try that it does not brush against surfaces outside. Carry tissues, use them to cover your fingers when touching surfaces. Crumple the tissue and toss it in a closed bag in the garbage bin. Cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow. Try not to use cash to pay. If you do, disinfect your hands. Wash your hands after touching any object or surface and use hand sanitizer. Do not touch your face until your hands are clean. Keep the distancing of two (2) meters with others.
