Bóer Élite Group, an ally in our emergency management
B
óer Élite Group is a highly experienced interdisciplinary team providing support in the implementation and maintenance of the Emergency Management System. This Group started to be part of our Emergency Brigade in matters such as basic life support, prehospital care, equipment use, rescue, among others. This training will allow brigade members and mining rescuers, employees, or contractors, to be highly trained on saving lives and to take part in different competitions. Bóer Élite will certify them in “Stop the bleed-first care provider”, an initiative endorsed by the American College of Surgeons, which has trained more than 1.5 million people around the world.

We honor the environment month Environmental protection is in the DNA of Zijin-Continental Gold. It is the flagship in our higher purpose: “To contribute to the economic development of the country through modern mining, with social and environmental purpose”, and even in one of our corporate values: “Harmony with the Environment and the Community”. World Environment Day is traditionally celebrated in June, and the Company honors this celebration by performing different activities related to this subject, with the sole purpose of reinforcing the importance of continuing working and complying with all standards of quality and environment protection at all times. As a part of Zijin Mining Group, one of our priorities is to become the first Environmentally-Responsible Mine in Colombia; a mine committed to caring for natural resources and biodiversity, to have clean production and to the development of the communities that host us. In 2020, we invested COP 7.41 billion in environmental management and we also protect more than 2,000 hectares of forest that have environmental importance in the region. 143 families of Buriticá and Western Antioquia receive payments for environmental services. We signed 2 agreements with Corantioquia for taking care of the environment. 97% of the water we use in our production process is recirculated.

IDB published an analysis on our
supply chain linkage program -PEP-
“Linkage and entrepreneurship in mining zones: Buriticá Case” is the name of the document that the Inter-American Development Bank -IDB- published on its webpage. In a 56- page document, readers find an analysis of the linkage model, within the framework of mining and sustainable development; the phases, components and methodology that were used, and the results obtained. The PEP has promoted and supported 87 local companies in Buriticá, Giraldo, Cañasgordas and Santa Fe de Antioquia, the influence area of the Buriticá Mine, through technical and business assistance, training, and loans through the Business Revolving Fund.

We are
New space for
camp wellbeing
W
ith the wellbeing of our employees in mind, we opened a space that complies with all biosecurity protocols, dedicated to healthy recreation and sports, located at Plant camp (former ICC).
Our coworkers can find there a well-equipped gym, board games such as parchisi, cards and dominoes and a ping pong table. We also have a coach trained in physical conditioning, who guides the processes of participants.

William graduated as nurse's aide
fter being recognized as best high school graduate in 2018, William de Jesús García Londoño, who has worked in the Company for 5 years in the Protection area, continued studying. In spite of the pandemic, he finished his studies as Nurse's Aide, a technical program, at the Instituto de Ciencias Aplicadas (Indecap). “This academic program goes together with my role as brigade member and mining rescuer. I love the health area and I have always had the vocation to help.”
The Company facilitated arranging his work schedule, financed part of his studies and accepted his internship in the HSE area. “I am really thankful. They are an excellent and professional team, they accepted me as family and taught me a lot. We really have a work team that is well trained in health matters.” William reaffirmed that this area is his passion. And his next goal is to study nursing.
Jonattan Monje, Health Superintendent William completed a satisfactory practice with us. He was a great support for emergency care, and stood out as a very industrious person, responding to all the challenges we proposed. He demonstrated excellent performance. We would love to have him as part of our team at some point”.

There have been findings in our mining project environment creating disagreements in the communities and residents of the zone, such as: Drivers that do not respect the established traffic rules in internal and external roads, exceeding speed limits set for said roads. Vehicle traffic during the night, especially big vehicles that produce a lot of noise. Running-over domestic and wild animals on roads. In order to avoid this type of incidents and to be better neighbors, we invite all our contractors to continue implementing awareness strategies related to respecting road signs, defensive driving, giving priority to pedestrians, respecting public assets and private property, and respecting the fauna found in the zone.
You should know: Prior to bringing oversized equipment into the Mine, there is a process to be presented at the Local Mayor's Office and local authorities. This way, proper measures can be taken to prevent traffic jams in the access roads of the municipality. Some of them are temporary closing of a road, supporting flag persons and continuous communication with authorities. In these cases, the contractor needs to contact the Sustainability and OHS personnel beforehand, allowing enough time to support such process and to avoid disagreements in the communities and local authorities.
You should remember:
Zijin-Continental Gold is committed to road safety, implementing necessary measures for preventing accidents in internal and external roads of the Mine, and promoting proper behavior when driving vehicles. Employees, contractors, subcontractors, and users of internal roads in the Buriticá Mine, of municipal, departmental, and national roads are requested to comply with the allowed speed limits, the number of passengers per vehicle, to have all regulatory documents (for vehicles and drivers), and to give priority to pedestrians and community in zones with pedestrian crossings. All vehicles that enter the Mine have to be supervised and have preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance for proper operation. Also, drivers must comply with the requirements established by the Company and complete a defensive driving course and other legal and internal requirements.
