MVDFS 2024 RULES & REGULATIONS

SHOW REGULATIONS

1 Heifers registered as a 4-H project as a yearling that have kept records accordingly with the 4-H club, may then be shown as a two or three year old without previously being shown as a yearling Cows must have a calendar year calf at foot or be showing evidence of calving.

2 All animals must be owned by the child, parent or family farm or have a proper lease agreement in place

3 No adult participation other than to hold, lead, twist an animal’s tail, or for safety precautions Fellow active 4-H members will be allowed to assist entrants in preparing their animals

4 All animals will be shown by age (youngest to oldest) according to purebred or crossbred classification

5. A homegrown yearling heifer is a previous calendar year calf that was bred on the 4-H member’s or family’s home farm or pasture

6 The replacement deadline is April 1st of the current 4-H year A 4-H club leader and or veterinarian shall inspect the animal and ascertain the cause of death or injury. The club leader shall than inform the Mountain View District Heifer Show Committee for approval of replacement

7. All animals (heifer, cow & calves) entered in the purebred classes must be purebred/fullblood as defined by that breed’s Association or herdbook Those animals identified as purebred must be accompanied by registration papers or will be shown in the commercial classes

8 Supreme champions will be determined from all champions, purebred and crossbred

9 Yearlings will be shown in groups of six (6) entries or less Cow/calf classes will be shown in groups of five (5) or less Entrants not identifying animal’s age will be catalogued as oldest in their respective class

10 Cows with grafted calves will not be placed higher than third (3rd) in confirmation classes The cow & grafted calf are eligible to complete in the herd class and will not be placed higher than third (3rd). The entrant is eligible for showmanship

11. ALL animals exhibited MUST have a locked CCIA tag as the official identification of the MVDFS. The CCIA tag number must match the current registration records at the Regional 4-H office and the MVDFS

12. All correction of entries must be given to the MVDFS Chairperson in writing prior to 7:00am the morning of show

13 If any of the rules & regulations of the MVDFS is not met, the animal in question will be disqualified from the show

14. All 4-H clubs represented will be expected to bring a club banner to carry in the Parade of Clubs during the opening ceremonies as well as have a prepared brief bio about their club

15 Club members are responsible for keeping their stalls and adjacent aisle clean and tidy at all times in consideration of the viewing public A stall award will be presented at the end of the show

16 All 4-H club members are reminded to leave the Cow Palace facilities, lobby and arena clean and free of garbage

17 All beef clubs in the Mountain View District must have a representative present and complete there rotational duties even if the club does not have any animals being shown at the Mountain View District Heifer show

18 You must use your own animal for showmanship

19. No floor fans

20 Cleavers are permitted in the ring only during the cleaver class

21 All animals must have neck ropes

22 All participating clubs are expected to assist in event set-up and tear-down along with a leader needed to sit on our committee and assist with yearly programming.

23 The MVDFS Committee has the right and discretion to make changes and rules based on the betterment of the event.

Classes available to enter in 2024:

- Confirmation $75/project

- Yearling Heifer (Purebred & Commercial)

- 2yr Old Pair (Purebred & Commercial)

- 3yr Old Pair (Purebred & Commercial)

- Breeders Herd (No Additional Entry)

- Showmanship (Included in Project Entry)

- Grooming (Included in Project Entry)

- Marketing (Included in Project Entry)

Showmanship can only be entered by a member with a project at the show

Grooming & Marketing can be entered by any member with a beef project; even if they are not exhibiting a female at the show Skill Only Entries will be $20/member

The marketing component will be a “Sales Talk” where the member can sell any item of their choosing Items could be (but not limited to); live animals, genetics, livestock supplies, vehicles, real estate property

When you enter all three skill classes; if you choose, you can qualify to the National Young Cattlemen (NYC) competition. Details can be found here
