As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Carroll EMC returns excess operating revenue back to its Members in the form of capital credits. Carroll EMC is owned by the Members it serves. Once you become a Member of the cooperative and pay the $15 membership fee, you also become part-owner. Capital credits represent each Member-owner’s share of Carroll EMC’s margins or operating revenue remaining after operating expenses. This is what sets us apart from investor-owned utilities.
Solar energy is rising in popularity, and so are solar scams. If a salesperson knocks on your door promising free solar panels at zero cost or that you’ll never have to pay your energy bill again, it’s likely a scam. If you’re interested in solar panels for your home, do your research, get multiple quotes from licensed providers who are reputable, and most importantly, take your time to ensure a smooth process.

The Board of Directors announces the retirement of funds from a specific set of years, and the amount a Member receives is calculated based on their use of electricity for those years. Eligible Members will receive their check after the Board of Directors has finalized financial conditions. Members receive their capital credits as a check in the mail, which can be cashed, deposited or applied as a credit to their electric account.
Unclaimed capital credits are simply those checks that have not been claimed by Members. The cooperative shares a list of Members whose checks were issued but were returned undeliverable or have otherwise been unclaimed.
Carroll EMC is trying to locate current or former Members whose 2019 capital credits checks were issued but returned as undeliverable or have otherwise been unclaimed. Be sure to check the lists at carrollemc.com/capitalcredits to see if you are eligible to receive a patronage capital allocation. To claim a refund, contact us at (770) 832-3552.
The last possible date to claim these funds is October 3, 2025.
Before you take aim this dove season, remember: Let’s keep the season fun—and connected—for everyone.
Utility lines are off limits. Never shoot near them.
Take advantage of “shoulder months,” which refer to the transitional periods between peak heating and cooling seasons. During the fall, these milder weeks typically occur between September and November. Shoulder months offer a great opportunity to reduce home energy consumption as the need for extensive heating or cooling is reduced. Look for simple ways to boost indoor comfort without running your heating and cooling system. Use ceiling fans and open windows on breezy days to ventilate your home. On cooler days, add a layer of clothing and avoid running the heat.
Fiber-optic cables are made of glass and extremely easy to damage.
Repairs are costly and damage may result in liability.
Bright Ideas are grants of up to $1,000 awarded to public school educators teaching pre-K through 12th grade for classroom-based projects in a variety of subjects that are innovative and creative.
Teacher applicants must complete an online application at carrollemc.com during the annual grant cycle that opens in August and closes in October. Individual teachers may submit one application per school year.
The foundation Board of Trustees blindly reviews the applications and selects each year’s winners.
