This portfolio is a selection of some of the projects I have worked on in recent years, reflecting part of my academic years and the beginning of my professional life as an architect.

I see the impact that architecture can have both culturally and individually, which compels us to design with integrity and empathy, positively transforming spaces. I am constantly seeking ways to grow both professionally and personally. Alongside architecture, my hobbies include reading and taking photographs in my free time.

Barrios caminables, Mejicanos, San Salvador. 2021

Worked alongside: OPAMSS

The project emerged as a response to social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to numerous painful losses. Among them are the so-called “third places” such as restaurants, bars, gyms, places of worship, hair salons, and other frequented spaces that are not linked to either work or home.

As a result, “barrios caminables“ initiative was launched, with the main goal of revitalizing towns

and cities by creating new accessible public spaces. The design is inspired by the movement of water, represented by a succession of colorful “waves” that outline the spaces, creating the appearance of small ponds.

The park is divided into three well-defined areas: a space for resting, a play area, and a designated area for picnics or recreation.

03

Park elevation

This proposal seeks not only to counteract the limitations imposed by the pandemic, but also to promote community connection and the revitalization of urban life through the creation of environments that allow people to meet and coexistence.

The project is divided as follow:

Playgroung:

1. Rotaring chairs.

2. Climbing bridge

3. Metalic trees

Resting areas:

4. Picinic area

5. Cityhall plaza

Metalic trees

Inspired by the shape of trees, these metal structures are surrounded by small fixed platforms that serve as tables, benches, and also function as a play area.

Climbing bridge

Reinforced concrete bridge with a yellow plastic coating, offering the ability to climb on one side and slide on the other, providing more dynamism than a conventional slide. Underneath the bridge, there are small platforms for children to play around or on them, also serving as benches and an area to rest.

Clinical Center

Mersal 2021

Worked alongside:

Josué Zelaya y David Montoya

The design of the new MERSAL clinics building in San Miguel arises from the need for new medical spaces that are safe and welcoming, suitable for everyone.

Second skin:

The aesthetics of the building stem from the need for natural light, without compromising the comfort of the users, seeking at the same time to reduce dependence on air conditioning. Thus, the second skin is a blend of different materials, textures, and colors, featuring vegetation and metal sunshades, providing the building with a play of shadows and freshness, as well as distinction in its exterior.

The building consists of a total of 8 levels and is structured as follows:

Security and Accesibility

A strong emphasis was placed on accessibility and safety. As part of these considerations, an entrance ramp, an elevator, as well as a set of stairs and emergency staircases were included on the rear facade of the building for hazardous situations.

Second Skin Concept:

The design of the main facade was inspired by the aesthetics of pixels, which not only provides pleasant shade and allows airflow but also incorporates a carefully selected color palette. This contributes to both energy efficiency and the aesthetics of the building.

Interior desing:

The interior design was inspired by biophilic architecture, drawing upon global evidence demonstrating how connection with nature contributes to faster patient recovery. Therefore, natural elements such as materials, colors, and even integration of vegetation into the furniture were carfully chosen inside the building.

In the choice of colors, a soft palette with some pastel tones was chosen, aiming for the transition towards calmness and tranquility to be a central element in the space.

Living walls:

The main wall of the cafeteria area stands out for a specially designed structure to accommodate plants, providing them space to grow and bringing life to the place. This wall is also intended to provide the cafeteria with aromatic species.

KALI 503

2020

Worked alongside:

Josué Zelaya

The origin of the “KALI 503” project arises in response to the growing need for housing in El Salvador, a country that in recent years has chosen to develop a many high-rise constructions.

Nature. Comfort, Art.

This complex draws inspiration from the essence of everyday life, especially in light of the pandemic, when the lack of adequate spaces for leisure and recreation became evident. This scarcity is further accentuated in apartment towers, where most units are of reduced dimensions and the presence of vegetation and life is limited and where the few green spaces that exist are often associated with exorbitant costs.

Together with my classmate, Josué Zelaya, we decided to direct the project towards sustainability, the incorporation of vegetation and life, and art. The building consists of two towers in an “L” shape, interconnected in the area of the elevators and emergency staircases. These spaces provided us with the opportunity to design open common areas, thus promoting an environment that breathes nature and fosters well-being.

14 03

The shape of the building has been meticulously designed, carrying out strategic planning that assigns prominent roles to nature in its functionality. The synergy between architectural design and environmental influence is notably manifested, giving prominence to wind and sunlight. This consideration is not limited solely to aesthetics but seeks to enhance fundamental aspects such as energy efficiency and the building’s sustainability.

The careful integration of a wide variety of native vegetation not only visually enriches the environment but also represents a conscious choice towards sustainability and harmonious coexistence with the natural surroundings.

By incorporating native plants and trees, the plaza adapts more efficiently to the specific climatic and ecological conditions of the area, promoting landscape resilience, and contributing to the preservation and restoration of the ecosystem.

The layout throutout the entirity of the project has been carefully designed to create a welcoming environment, inviting all visitors to enjoy leisure, rest, and commercial spaces. The presence of vegetation is highlighted, by distributing them through high planter boxes and green areas that extend throughout the entire complex.

This design seeks not only to provide functionality but also to enhance the connection with nature, creating a pleasant and accessible environment for those who pass through it.

The social area of the building is distinguished by the presence of a charming arrangement of planters that adds a harmonious and natural touch to the environment.

These planters not only make the surroundings more beautiful, but also foster a positive social atmosphere, inviting people to enjoy moments of leisure and camaraderie amidst the freshness and beauty of the surrounding vegetation

The design of the residential floor has been conceived in such a way that the apartments do not appear isolated from each other, but rather a sense of community is encouraged. This is achieved by implementing corridors that connect the different apartments and the resting areas distributed within them, thus creating a cozy and comfortable environment for both residents and visitors

Kitchen redesing 2022

Furniture desing

The kitchen, considered the second most used space in homes, plays a central role in daily life, becoming the heart of the home. Regardless of its size, there is a constant effort to maximize both storage space and workspace. In the design approach, special attention was paid in order to optimize every square inch of the kitchen, even leveraging the height of the ceiling to provide ingenious and efficient solutions.

In the quest to maximize space, the importance of visual harmony has not been overlooked. Every element, from cabinets to tile details, has been carefully selected and strategically placed to achieve a modern and cohesive aesthetic.

Spaces designed for everyday use equipment such as microwave and electric oven aim to not take up space in the work area.
