‘Irresistibly charming.’ The Times on The Gruffalo

‘A truly theatrical feast.’ The List on Room on the Broom

How I wonder what you are... Stella loves the stars. Every evening she gazes at them through her telescope. But one night her little brother Ryan wishes on a star, extends the telescope all the way and starts climbing up it. Stella follows him. But something is wrong in the night sky. There’s Pegasus the flying horse – but there’s also a cow jumping over the moon. And the Great Bear and the Little Bear have been joined by a medium-sized bear...

Tall Stories, the company that brought you The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom, presents its latest show. Inspired by nursery rhymes and the Big Bang the company use stories, music and the mystery of space to lift you up, up and away... The development and initial tour of Twinkle Twonkle is funded by Arts Council England, with additional schools touring funding from John Lyon’s Charity.

Dress as a pirate, bring your eye-patch or telescope along to the performance and get a prize!

A fantastical moonlit adventure with puppets and pirates. When dark shadows come stealing down Tom’s bedroom walls he thinks it might be monsters or ogres or trolls. But Tom’s not afraid, for he’s a brave little boy. So he peeps out of the window and what should he see but pirates. Stranger still they’re girl pirates, stealing the front of his house! Tom joins the girl pirates on their daring adventure across the high seas to an island where Captain Patch and his really rough, tough grown-up pirates are guarding their treasure.

Can Tom and his new friends outwit the snoozing, snoring pirates and steal their booty? Puppets, song and ballet-dancing pirates combine in this delightful adaptation of the much loved picture. www.theatrehullabaloo.org.uk

Doublecross A dark comedy about the double lives people are forced to live in a harsh but often hilarious modern world. The Dinosaur Show

Romeo & Juliet

Hitch

The Dinosaur Show is about all we want to leave behind. Inspired by an argument in Bath and a museum about a prehistoric age, this is a performance about epitaph and memory, faith and uncertainty. Together the company articulate their desires, hopes and ambitions for the moment when the meteor strikes, the fatigue sets in and all that’s left of them is a distant memory.

By William Shakespeare

By Samuel Payne

One of Shakespeare’s most thrilling and popular plays, Romeo & Juliet confronts each new generation with its passion and force. Two young people fall in love and marry. But in a divided city their union is threatened by a bloody family feud. Shakespeare vividly captures the beauty, intimacy and fragility of young love in a hostile world. Tiny House present an abridged version of the text, accessible to all.

“This is my final chance, you know...” When Joseph is hired by Alfred Hitchcock to write his next great movie, the young writer can’t believe his luck. But a new beginning soon turns into a dead end from which there is no return. Moving and funny, Hitch is based on a true story.

Ugly is not pretty but seeing it might just change your life... Crocosmia

The tale of a man who dies and discovers just what is on the other side of life. A charming and strange new story, told through paper theatre. With his rickety ‘machine’ and beautifully coloured cardboard scenes and characters, Jonathan Storey presents a world like an animated painting.

Can a vivid imagination be a substitute for real loss? In a family that is shrinking and a world that is growing bigger, three precocious children attempt to carve out a unique space for themselves and the memory of their parents. An explosion of fast-paced, visual storytelling following the Brackenberg siblings and their attempts to make sense of the world through cake puppetry, romantic slide shows, and ingenious bulb experiments, all backed by their parents’ vintage record collection.

‘The most wonderful cross between an incredibly beautiful piece of artwork, a dark fairytale and a feat of miniature engineering... I would recommend it to anyone.’ Ellie Jones, Southwark Playhouse ‘A brilliant feat of storytelling.’ London Theatre Blog

The Dreadful Hours Directed by Javier Marzan (Peepolykus) Script by Chris Fittock

Energised, ambitious, and intoxicated with a perfect summer of technicolour love, they feel extraordinary, and long to have the world at their feet. But what happens when the summer ends? When an hour’s dinner can seem like years, yet years seem to pass in a heartbeat? This is a darkly comic drama that explores the quiet crumbling of love’s first flourish through the lifetime of one couple’s relationship.

Up Frankie! By Stuart Fortey

Frankie Howerd has been thrown out of heaven. As he bemoans his fate, dressed in robes and halo, he reveals what made him tick, what took him up and what brought him down. Most extraordinarily of all, he tells how his hesitations, his oohs and ahhs, his no, nos! were all carefully written and not ad-libs at all. So how much freedom and how much control did he really have in his act? The man who once wanted to be a saint battles for his soul with God and throws in some glorious oneliners and a lot of cheeky innuendo along the way. Up Frankie! is a fun-and-frolics romp through the life of one of Britain’s most revered comedians.

A new play by Tom Needham

A strange cargo, an unexpected passenger, a violent wreck, and an enduring mystery. “It is very clear Miss Brown that the crew were frightened of something and that something was very real...” When a ship is wrecked in mysterious circumstances a gruesome discovery on board gives rise to two conflicting theories about what happened during the last ill-fated voyage of the Demeter. (TV credits include Cold Blood and Silent Witness)

It was built from the timber of a ship lured onto the rocks by wreckers and is haunted by the child who was drowned that night. She’s been waiting over a hundred and fifty years for her revenge. Scullery, booze soaked master of the revels, takes a poignant and bawdy tour of the place and its people with their hope, their despair, their honesty and their wild humour. This cult classic was the first play written by Jim Cartwright, author of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Its production in 1987 was a landmark in the career of post-punk icon, Ian Dury.
