SUMMER OF SPORT The sports and recreation team at Rugby Borough Council have a packed programme of sporting activities for you this summer. This brochure details all the activities we have on offer. All our activities are open to children with a disability, but please be aware our coaches and leaders have to supervise activities. This racquet sport camp is suitable for beginners and more experienced players. Our Level 2 coaches will deliver skills and games activities to improve your range of shots and court positioning.

Bakehouse Gym, Bakehouse Lane, Rugby, CV21 2DB £2 per session Boxing - Dates: Monday 24 July, 31 July, 7 August, 14 August & 21 August. Time: 6pm – 6:45pm Kickboxing – Dates: Tuesday 25 July, 1 August, 8 August, 15 August, 22 August & 29 August. Time: 5pm – 5:45pm Sessions will be delivered by Bakehouse Amateur Boxing Club and provide a non-contact introduction to the sports. Learn basic techniques and develop your fitness in a safe, friendly environment.

TENNIS

Our tennis camp is perfect for budding tennis stars to be coached by a Level 3 LTA tennis coach. Each camp will take you through all the shots needed to compete against your friends. From serving to drop shots and volleying, you’ll develop your court presence.

Dates: Monday 7 & Tuesday 8 August Time: 1pm – 2:30pm These exciting basketball sessions will take you through the basic skills and techniques, including shooting drills and competitions.

Dates: Wednesday 9 August, Thursday 10 August & Friday 11 August Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm **Please wear loose clothing - long sleeves, jogging bottoms or leggings. No jeans.

Rugby Trampoline Club coaches offer this introductory course and will give you the chance to work towards your trampolining proficiency awards. One of the most popular Olympic Sports, you will learn the variety of jumps and landings before progressing to somersaults.

Draycote Water Sailing Club, Kites Hardwick, Rugby, CV23 8AB ÂŁ65 Dates: Tuesday 15 August & Wednesday 16 August Time: 10am to 4pm (Pick up Town Hall 9.45am, return 4.15pm) ** Please bring with you: spare trainers for in the water, swimming costume for under provided wetsuit, towel, packed lunch and sun cream. This two day course will take you through stage one of the RYA Youth Sailing Certificate. You will learn how to rig a boat before going out on the water and steering and controlling the sails yourselves. The cost of the course includes transport to and from Draycote Water and all safety equipment.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre, Bruce Williams Way, Rugby, CV22 5LJ £4 per session Dates: Thursday 17 August & Friday 18 August Time: 2pm – 3:30pm Our Level 2 Dodgeball coaches will teach you how to dodge, duck, dip and dive in these fast paced sessions. You will develop new skills while playing games, taking part in drills and competing against your friends.

Woodbine Stables, Grandborough Fields Road, Grandborough, Rugby, CV23 8BA £38 Dates: Wednesday 23 August & Thursday 24 August Time: 9.30am to 1pm (Pick up from Town Hall 9.15am, return 1.15pm) This two day camp is ideal for horse lovers as you get taken through all the joys of owning and riding a horse. Using the riding school’s training arena, you learn how to ride, tackle jumps and manoeuvre your horse around obstacles. This is an excellent introduction to stable management and riding. ** Please wear wellington boots, walking shoes or a heeled shoe (no trainers), jeans or leggings. The riding school advises children to bring antihistamines in case of allergies to horse hair.

Dates: Tuesday 29 August, Wednesday 30 August & Thursday 31 August Time: 11am to 2pm (Pick up from Town Hall 10.45am, return 2.15pm) ** Please bring a small snack and drink The centre’s PGA professional coach reveals all the techniques and shots you need to be the next Rory McIlroy during this three day course. You will use the driving range and par three course, completing more than eight hours of golf tuition. The cost includes transport to and from the centre, hire of equipment, range balls and access to the course.

ANGLING

Dates: Friday 25 August and Friday 1 September Time: 1pm to 4pm (Pick up from Town Hall 12.45pm, return 4.15pm) These two days will give beginners and experienced anglers the chance to catch a wide variety of fish, including carp. Learn to set up the tackle, find the right depth, use different baits, feed ‘the swim’ and how to handle your catch – before casting out your line and putting your new-found knowledge to the test.

What do we do?

As many athletics events and skills that we can cram into a week. Runs, Jumps and Throws and some basic fitness and techniques. Every session will end with a series of relay events / team games. Plenty of fun and games with our lively coaches in a relaxed atmosphere. Coaching is provided by our junior athletics club coaches who are talented athletes themselves~ all CRB checked and very experienced.

Who can come?

Suitable for children in Year 2 to Year 8. We welcome children of all abilities from the complete sporting beginner to those wanting a taster in athletics or athletes who want to develop their athletics skills

What Other Athletics can I do?

At RUGBY why not come along to our Saturday Track Club every week 9:15-10:15 at the Leisure Centre Track. £3 a session aged 7 to 13. Just turn up and sign in! We run groups from Age 8 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Evenings. Come for a month’s trial and see what you can do! This summer we will be out and about as usual, offering FREE outdoor play sessions and provide exciting, fun and innovative play activities in the Rugby Borough Park! We have a jam packed schedule with lots to do - from water fights to den making - and each week we will offer a different themed activity to keep it fresh. So for fun with all the family, and a chance to meet new friends in your local park, come and join us to play!

Play sessions are designed for children aged 5 to 13 years.

For more information please contact Rugby Borough Council’s Play Development Officer on 01788 533655 Children under 8 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18+. The service provides free of charge, open access drop-in play sessions; and as such Rugby Borough Council cannot accept any responsibility for children's safety if they choose to leave early. All sessions are outdoor so children may get muddy, they may also use paint, glue, etc., so they should be dressed accordingly.
