STAR is the official study association of Rotterdam School of Management and is the largest study association in Europe with over 6,500 members and 300 Active Members. We support students in their academic, professional, and social development to ensure they have the best student life possible.
STAR connects students with their peers and a broad range of companies. This contact is facilitated through numerous activities and events organized by our committees and boards.
Each year, over 300 dedicated Active Members organise around 450 projects for thousands of students. These projects are classified into three pillars on which STAR’s mission
is built, namely: Social, Academic, and Career. All RSM students, in all stages of their studies, can partake in our tailored projects.
Are you ready for your next challenge?
We provide our Active Members with the opportunity to actively develop themselves both personally and professionally. In addition to this, they get access to a network of enthusiastic students and great companies. STAR creates value for every student.
Are you ready to start your STAR journey?
This brochure will give you more information about the Master Committees that STAR is recruiting in July/August 2024. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at recruitment@rsmstar.nl
Once you are an Active Member, you will meet many new people, not only via your Master Committee but also at our events. The prime “networking time” is during our weekly drinks on Wednesday. In November, you will have the opportunity to join the Active Members Weekend.
After your kick-off, you will officially start working on your project(s). On average, you will spend 2-4 hours per week on meeting and planning events. These hours are completely flexible and you can plan them with the rest of your Master Committee. However, you can spend many more hours on STAR. Besides the weekly drinks, we encourage you to have a weekly dinner together, and participate in other STAR events.
STAR organises amazing theme nights, Active Members Weekends, and much more specfically for its Active Members. Next to these
special activities, you are of course always welcome to join all other STAR activities!
At STAR, we greatly value your personal development. Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to participate in free trainings and workshops.
Last but not least, you will be in close contact with the STAR Board to share your ideas and improvements you would like to implement within STAR. We are always interested in innovative and interesting ideas.
Your network will start to grow immediately.

Are you interested in organizing events for your fellow students, strengthening your extra-curricular experience, and fostering ties with the corporate world? If so, then a part-time year at a Master Committee (MC) might be right for you!
Our MCs connect master students to the university and the corporate world. The aim of a MC is to create value for master students by organizing events, supported by STAR’s three pillars: career, social, and academic.
In the past, MCs have organized many events, ranging from inhouse days to company dinners, and from professional trainings to end of exam drinks. Each master has its own MC, so the events that an MC organises are tailored to fit the needs of specific master students.
On top of that, we offer study trips for master students. There are 5 different study trips, for 5 different groups of masters. Take a look at which study trip committee you can apply for!
The expected workload for an MC member is 2-4 hours per week. However, some weeks will be busier and other weeks will require less effort. The schedule of events is tailored to fit your master programme.
As Chair/Treasurer, you are leading your MC to bring as much value as possible to your students. By identifying the priorities together with your team, you can optimally plan and organise the events. In addition, you make sure that the budget of the MC is used in a responsible, fair manner and that it optimises the value brought to students. This position requires strong communication skills and a good sense of responsibility.
As Internal, you are the main contact point for the students of your master, because you are the link between the students and RSM. In addition, you are the go-to person for students with questions about everything the MC organises. Because you are responsible for the contact with the students, you are responsible for the marketing of your MC’s events to the students. Your responsibilities also include organising drinks and other social events for your masters.
As External, you represent your MC to companies and other external stakeholders. You are responsible for the contact with companies, getting acquisition to fund events, and managing the relationships with external stakeholders. You are also in charge of organising several career events, such as inhouse days and networking drinks.

Why should I apply?
When you join a Master Committee, you get the opportunity to develop yourself professionally in a team of like-minded students. At STAR, we value your personal growth and aim to support the kick-start of your career. Besides this, your network will expand rapidly and you get access to social events for active members such as Active Members Weekend.
What kind of events would I organize as a MC member?
You may organise events that support one or more of our three pillars: career, social, and academic. In the past, career events included inhouse days, company dinners, and management trainings. Social events included beer tastings, after-exam barbecues, and monthly drinks. Academic events included trainings, panels, and tutoring. Of course, you can organise your own, innovative ideas as well.
How much freedom do I have to organise events that I like for a Master Committee?
In the beginning of the academic year, you make a planning for all events throughout the year. You and your Master Committee are free to fill in this planning, as long as it adds value to the students of your master.
How do I know what is the right position for me?
We encourage you to apply for positions that will challenge you. As an active member, you help STAR create value for students. In return, STAR aims to create value for you by means of accelerating your professional and personal development. If you need more information before making a decision, feel free to contact us.
