his week's edition recognizes winners of our Best of the Weekly readers’ choice awards. Some winners have built a reputation for selling quality products or reliable service. Others have appealed to their clients for votes. Either way, winners have demonstrated how they connect with customers in ways that surpass others in their industries. Congratulations, winners! We launched this year's contest May 3 by posting ballots in our print and online editions. Readers had until May 31 to vote for their favorites in more than 90 categories, such as Best Bar, Best Barbecue, Best Bank and Best Bookstore. The newsroom tallied thousands of votes. The sales staff alerted companies of their victories. We've followed the same process since 2016, but we added a reception this year to recognize winners. excited to get started planning next year's campaign. I realize the instant people learn of the winners, I'll get email from people mad because they didn't win an award. They'll say it's not fair or that they wished they would have known about the Best of the Weekly. The only response I can say to that is that I wish they read or paid attention to our publications. STIP NO: I-5507 The North Carolina Department of Transportation and Turnpike Authority will hold a pre-construction open house public meeting to display and explain design features of the I-5507 project. Thursday, June 27 Noon to 7 p.m. Endhaven Elementary School 6815 Endhaven Lane Charlotte, NC 28277 The project will add one express lane in each direction on I-485 between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard), providing travel time reliability and improving traffic flows on this critical transportation corridor. This project will also add one general purpose lane in each direction between Rea Road and Providence Road, and a new interchange at Weddington Road. In coordination with other projects in south/southeastern Mecklenburg County, this project would serve as part of a larger network of express lanes offering drivers the option of more reliable travel times. Updated information regarding noise walls will be available at another public meeting later this year. Representatives from the design and construction team will be available in an informal, open house-style setting to provide information and answer questions regarding upcoming construction. MATTHEWS – McClintock Heating & Cooling owners Rob and Kim McClintock know the heating and air business as well as anyone. Rob has more than 30 years experience while Kim handles accounting, marketing and public awareness. Through that work, Kim knows her industry doesn’t always get a great reputation with customers, and that’s why she and her husband invest so much back into her company. “We have a great team,” Kim said. “Rob and I spend a lot of time finding people in our area who want to work in our industry and training them. We invest a lot in our team, and we invest a lot in their training as far as the technicians going for advanced training, working on customer service skills or teaching someone new the basics of HVAC.” Most of their install employees have been with the company for a number of years, including Brian, the installation manager who has been with the company since 2002.
Two summers ago, a high school student came in looking for summer work. The McClintocks took him in, taught him the basics and have him back this summer and maybe for a full-time hire after high school. It’s that kind of family feel that separates McClintock and allows them to provide excellent heating, cooling and electrical needs to their customers. Many of the technicians have been with the company for years. They don’t earn commission or extra compensation for selling new units, and that’s something that puts customers at ease. “Do the right thing is kind of our unofficial motto,” Kim said. “Our technicians are not sales people. They get paid to fix things, not to sell replacements. We have sales people to do that.
