Concept Statement Quadratas can tell a story through illusionistic mural paintings and is the Italian form of representing a story. Using the history of the culture of Genoa beginning with the frescos and murals. The proposal for this cultural learning center will provide services for migrants as well as Italian locals in order to help understand one another’s culture, while integrating the program within the city using the existing context. The Ripa Maris arcade provides a historical border with Piazza Caricamento and the city which is mirrored on the opposite direction of Piazza Caricamento but instead the port to the Piazza. Approaching the site through its different elevations will set the boundaries to connect with the projected site. By understanding precedents based on excavation and cut and fill, the proposed site will be assessed based on elevation changes that will relate to the buildings program

THEATRE/OPERA
PARK-
“A place where culture is truly accessible for to share and enjoy”. Clearly visible for its surroundings. Made out of ferrocement, a thin, a thin shell of reinforced concrete over a layer of metal mesh that is held by steel rods. The Stravos Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is located in the middle-class neighborhood of Kallthea which is 2 miles south of the Acropolis and just a few hundred feet from Faliro Bay. Faliro Bay was one of Athen’s earliest seaports and Kallithea has always had a strong relationship with the water. Since there was no view of the sea from the site, Piano decided to create an artificial hill that was created st the south towards the sea.

Oslo Opera House Oslo, Norway Snohetta LOBBY ENTRANCE
Built in 2007 by Snohetta. The Bjorvika was a harbor city and was considered the meeting point to the rest of the world. Relationship between the ground and the water created a threshold to the city. By laying out a ‘carpet’ of horizontal and sloping surfaces surfaces on top of the building. The Bjorvika peninsula is part of a harbour city. The line dividiing the threshold between the ground and the water is both real and symbolic.

La Laterna di Genova The lighthouse has been a historic symbol in Genoa since the 14th century which stands on the small hill on the last segment of the massive promonotory, Campo di Faro. The promonotory previously protected the western side of the gulf, but its shape has changed throughout centeruies. It was excavated between the 18th and 19th centuries in order to link Genoa to the west, but now the lighthouse does not stand in the far end of the cape , as the coast was filled with earth and the lighthouse currently stands aways from the shore.
