She extended t h e Mayor's apology f o r not attending. Nancy J e n n i n g s , C e n t r e D i r e c t o r , spoke w i t h concern t h a t many of t h e r e s i d e n t s i n t h i s a r e a end up h e r e a s a p l a c e of l a s t refuge, with t h e v a s t m a j o r i t y b e i n g on a s s i s t a n c e of some k i n d . She s a i d t h a t a f t e r contributing t o society

and having a bad b r e a k , p e o p l e tend t o see f u r t h e r t r y s a s being p o i n t l e s s , even worthl e s s . Yet, t h i s community can b o a s t of numerous and d i v e r s e t a l e n t s , s k i l l s and expertise. Nancy spoke of t h e v o l u n t e e r program h e r e expanding t o i n c l u d e t r a i n i n g f o r j o b s and activating peoples1 i n t e r e s t i n a l a r g e r world. A t 7:OOpm a f r e e dance began w i t h v e r y good music, s q u a r e dancing and j u s t g e t ting together.
