As summer gets into full swing, the Monterey Peninsula continues to thrive with momentum, optimism, and an unmistakable sense of renewal. From world-class events like the AT&T Pro-Am and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, to exciting new restaurant openings, golf course renovations, and reinvestments in local businesses, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of growth and celebration across our vibrant coastal communities.
As winter transitioned into spring with the longer sunlit days of early summer, the Monterey Peninsula real estate market entered its active selling season. The second quarter traditionally brings heightened energy to the market, and the early part of the quarter delivered, driven by fresh inventory, strong buyer interest, and the unmistakable allure of life along the Monterey Peninsula’s iconic coastline. However, the momentum briefly paused as global economic uncertainty—sparked by newly announced tariffs and a sharp dip in the stock market—led to a temporary slowdown in transactions. Still, the resilience of the market quickly reasserted itself. By June, activity picked up once again, closing out the quarter with strength and signaling renewed confidence as we head into the heart of the summer season.
In this 20th issue of 1913 Luxury by the Sea, we mark a meaningful milestone, not only in issues published but in the legacy of stories told, relationships honored, and the elegance we have proudly curated since our first edition in Winter 2016. Puddin’ is also a visual reminder of the team’s commitment to local nonprofits, like Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, where Ben and Carole adopted her when she was only 7 months old. We spoke with Ben Heinrich regarding his love for the Monterey Peninsula, his nonprofit work, and the team’s values.
Q: The Carmel Realty Foundation gives back to the local community in significant ways. How is supporting our neighbors important to your own values?

A: After being in the local real estate business for 45 years, joining Carmel Realty Company was a great fit, as we are all connected in the community and as decent human beings, I believe we should take care of others. In the past, I was the President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County. I also spent many years as part of the Carmel Harrison Memorial Library Foundation. I love poetry and reading, and we started a poetry contest for children ages kindergarten through high school. The winners get scholarships and get to read their poems at a ceremony. I will never forget the impact. Everyone is so proud of those kids, and it is really heartwarming. Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, where we got our dog Puddin’, is another important nonprofit to me, and we’ve had

parties where everyone brings their dogs for photo portraits and to raise money for the nonprofit. More recently, I’m on the board of directors for the Carmel Bach Festival. It’s very youth oriented and has such great programs for young kids.
Q: What attributes do the individual team members bring to The Heinrich Brooksher Real Estate Group?
A: Zach Brooksher joined our team right out of college, when he graduated Cal State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Zach is now one of the most respected real estate agents anywhere. He’s kept in contact with his professors and has spoken at business classes about what life is really like after college. Zach has the highly unusual ability to really listen and be aware and present. He’s very genuine and smart as can be. His wife Isabel joined our team a few years later and is probably smarter than all of us and is a practical genius and is so down to earth. She makes such well-reasoned choices when decisions need to be made. They contribute to the CSUMB College of Business Startup Challenge prize, which Zach competed in during his senior year.
My wife Carole is such an important part of the team environment. She helps so many people outside of the real estate sphere and is a trusted advisor to many people. She always gives her time when something important is happening. We are also so lucky to have Zach’s mom, Courtney, as part of the team. She is the glue that makes things happen and is so administratively skilled and has a wonderful, upbeat personality.
Q: What qualities do you attribute to being a successful Broker?
A: Perseverance is the number one attribute you have to have in this world to be successful. Combine it with growing your skills and things will eventually happen for you. An example of this is every day of my life, I work out with my 20-pound barbells—I can’t miss a workout, and I practice piano every day. I also read from a Stoic book like Marcus Aurelius or Epictetus…Routine is so important to me and is my foundation that allows me to do other things. I hope I bring some of that to people around me, especially the kids.
As a Realtor, my job is to lend clients a little bit of courage when making these big decisions…by listening and providing as much information as possible. There is a heightened sense of insecurity and uncertainty that is natural during a real estate transaction. It takes a lot of skill and trust to guide clients through the process.
When you put our sentiments and approach to the world on a team it makes for great interactions with people. The community knows how much we care.
Q: What are some of your favorite activities in the area?
A: Carole and I love when our grandchildren visit, and we get to enjoy activities like taking them to the Elkhorn Slough to see the tug of war between the ocean and the estuary. We have a great time seeing the sea lions, otters and all the different beautiful birds…If you are a golfer, you are in heaven here. I’ve been lucky enough to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament twice with my son Grant as my caddy. Everybody knew him and nobody knew who I was!
Q: What do you see as some of the current real estate trends and challenges?
A: We are not building enough homes in California and when we do build them, we need to use the highest building science available so that the homes last longer and are healthier. Sustainable building practices help people with allergies, save energy and help the climate. Locally, we are so lucky here to have a Mediterranean climate with clean air and the white sand at our beaches. This area is just a very rare gem and people fall in love with it…The demand for homes here is always there which has created an upward pressure on valuation and I don’t see anything that’s going to change that…Like everywhere, there are ups and downs that are translated into how we buy and sell things…In general, this area has been very good to people emotionally and also in the ability to live life in such a beautiful place.
