It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Rene Wilcott, on Tuesday October 1, 2019, with family by his side at the Health Center in Lampman, SK, at the age of 86.

Dad was born on the family farm north west of Alida, SK, the youngest child of Aquilas and Generia (Boutin) Wilcott. He is predeceased by his wife Rita and siblings Cecille (Forsythe), Harvey, Rose (Germain), Lucienne (Hansen), Virginia, and Yvonne (Smith). He is survived by his sons Philip, Paul (Amanda) and siblings Regina (Cruywels) and Adolf.

Rene was married to Rita (Prescott) on December 28, 1968 at John Fisher Parish in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Dad was a loving husband who raised his family and worked on the family farm alongside his brother Adolf. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Lampman Health Center for their support and compassionate care during his stay at the Nursing Home.

Clifford saw snow up to the second storey windows, and over the power lines. That was the year the train from Weyburn to Stoughton was snowed in for a week. Prisoners from the jail at Moosomin were release to shovel snow. Leora said that in heavy winds the garage blew away. Joan’s husband was in hospital. Neighbours went in the ditch at the end of the lane. Joyce spent many nights that winter going to competitions for an Amateur Hour. The driver tied the lines and the horses found the way home. Ruth Dennis remembered being stuck in a ditch going to a hockey game. In 1955 Ralph was hauling feed for cattle four miles away. He saw a storm coming and raced the horses, ploughing through snow. Grace’s father ordered the kids to stay home for three days.

Marie drove a school bus, and she had to go, but there was no one to plough the roads. Carol said the orphanage in Prince Albert burnt down and the children went to a barracks in the school.

Ralph Burke’s car broke down in a summer storm. In the lightning he saw trees lying down.

Fred remembered a hot day in 1927, ploughing with horses when a strong wind came up and he galloped the horses for home. A cyclone in Kamsack demolished Main Street.
