Businesses welcome Phase III of Saskatchewan’s reopening plan

By Kelly Johnson The Observer On Monday, June 8 many local and area businesses were able to reopen and start a “new normal” in the way they serve their valued clientele under the Saskatchewan Government’s Phase III plan for the provincial economy.

Restaurants and licensed establishments, that have been limited to take-out, pick-up or delivery, were to once again welcome customers to dine in to eat their favourite meals.

People with gym memberships were able to go to a fitness centre to use the equipment for workouts and/or specialized training programs.

Places of worship will be welcoming back congregations through their doors on days of worship under the guidelines set out by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA).

For all businesses that are under the Phase III reopening, the SHA has put in place strict guidelines for businesses and customers going to those establishments. Each establishment will be responsible to devise a working plan for their business and will be required to put in place guidelines tailored to their specific business to see that staff and patrons remain safe.

Anyone going to these newly reopened businesses should check ahead for requirements, through websites, Facebook pages, phoning the business, as well as the SHA website will have all pertinent regulations displayed.

Also included in this phase are estheticians, tattoo artists, make-up applicators, electrologists, manicurists, pedicurists, and sun tanning parlours.

Other personal service establishments may be included, again this can be checked on the SHA website: www.saskatchewan.ca/re-open.

Province announces reopen dates for closed rural emergency rooms, opening of outdoor playgrounds and beaches

By Jordan Stricker, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Premier Scott Moe announced on Monday the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) will be reopening eight more of the converted rural emergency rooms starting June 12.

The first of the next batch to reopen will be Kerrobert on June 12, followed by Leader and Arcola on June 16. Preeceville will reopen June 18, followed

by Biggar and Oxbow on June 22. Davidson will be June 24 and Herbert will follow on June 25.

Moe said the SHA is continuing to work on emergency room resumption planning for the four remaining community hospitals in Broadview, Radville, Lanigan and Wolseley.

“We are working very diligently to ensure the remaining emergency rooms open as quickly as possible, as the other four have some additional ongoing staffing issues that are unrelated to COVID-19,” said Moe. “The SHA is working to ensure those are re-

solved,” he added.

A media release sent out by the province said the dates of reopening are subject to change, guided by the current status of active COVID-19 positive cases, and the ability to meet all required safety criteria and human resourcing requirements needed.

Moe also announced that outdoor playgrounds and beaches will join Phase Three of the province’s Re-Open Saskatchewan plan starting June 12.

Guidelines for the reopening of outdoor playgrounds will include compliance with public gathering restrictions, practising proper hygiene, no sharing of toys or equipment between groups and the understanding that everyone attending must follow the province’s public health orders.

The guidelines also said people not from the same household or extended household should remain at least two metres apart at all times and limit gatherings with other people when entering and leaving the park.

By Calvin Daniels While the dream of some is to see the taps of oil and gas to be turned off completely is largely hyperbole on their part, any reduction on the reliance of those resources should be seen as generally positive.

Of course such steps have to be taken with a view to the larger picture.

In terms of energy there is the element of preserving stocks for key sectors over the longer term, and of course the environmental impact of extracting and processing oil and gas reserves versus whatever technologies develop as an alternative.

Nothing we do as human beings happens without it having some impact on the natural environment we live in, and that is a fact of life that cannot be overcome completely.

What we do need to do as a species is limit our impact, because we rely on this planet to produce food, to supply water and have clean air to breath.

For agriculture that will mean looking to adopt new technologies as we move forward.

One area that is intriguing for farmers is the idea of electric powered machinery.

On-road electric vehicle and hybrids, think cars being at the forefront, have become if not common, at least on the radar these days. Most consumers may not look at an electric car as their first choice to

purchase, but they know they exist as an option.

The off-road market that includes agricultural applications, think tractors, is not as developed.

It might never be as widely reasonable given the power required, but there are going to be farm applications where electric is a viable option in the future.

The agriculture machinery sector has always been an innovative one, with an ability to go into the shop with a problem in mind, and emerge sometime later with a viable solution that could be manufactured for farmers to use.

One only needs to look at the zero-till equipment of today. There was a time when producers could not envision being able to seed directly into heavy trash cover, but today it is an accepted practice.

We will see the same evolution in terms of electric power for farm equipment, although at present it is difficult to envision exactly the scope the development will encompass, and of course the timeframe of the arrival of various elements to the marketplace.

Certainly, in this era we are aware development can often happen far more quickly than we might imagine.

Increasingly, technology is moving forward at a startling pace, and we are likely to see that in the case of electric equipment for the farm.

Restaurants are limited to 50% of their previous capacity to customers dining in.

Living Skies Crossfit in Carlyle opened June 8, seeing many changes in the operation of the business to satisfy the physical distancing and other policy provisions set forth by the SHA. Owner Carson Brady has made many changes to the facility by limiting class sizes and putting squared off tape marks on the floor.

The risk factors of the COVID-19 virus remain the same. Each individual is responsible for their safety and the safety of others. The reopening is the “new normal” and with everyone doing their part by staying informed, calling ahead to the business for information if needed, can greatly help keep all frontline workers safe and make for a successful reopening for all of us.

The guidelines set out for the reopening of beaches are in line with the outdoor playgrounds with the additions of bringing your own picnic table covers, cleaning and hand hygiene supplies and other personal items.

Additionally, outdoor shower facilities are permitted but indoor shower and change facilities will remain closed. The province also said there will be no beach events permitted until further notice.

“Hopefully it’s a great weekend so that families can enjoy some time at the beach or some time at the playground,” said Moe. Additionally, as of Monday, Phase Three has officially started which includes the reopening of restaurants and licensed establishments at 50 per cent capacity, personal care services that were not included in Phase Two along with gyms and other facilities.

Business support becoming biggest challenge

By Murray Mandryk We are winning the battle to flatten the curve, but maybe losing the battle to re-launch the economy.

The latter is the next great fight for Saskatchewan.

There were 14 recoveries and no new cases on the day this column was written, reducing known active cases in the province to a mere 33, the lowest total in two months.

The majority of those cases (23) were in northern Saskatchewan, but so confidence was the provincial government and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) that the La Loche outbreak is under control that the province announced the removal of travel restrictions.

As for the rest of province, COVID-19 has become non-existence or virtually non-existence, one case in southern Saskatchewan, no cases in central Saskatchewan, four cases in Regina, three cases in Saskatoon and two in the north.

All this is good news two weeks after May 19 Stage two opening of more retail business and the May long weekend, time enough for any transmitted cases to start showing up.

While Premier Scott Moe and Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab are still offering an abundance of caution about the potential for community outbreaks, all this points to success in the COVID-19 battle.

Sadly, this was also a day in which the Country Thunder _ the music festival once known as the Big Valley Jamboree, was officially cancelled.

There is the ‘Riders and then there is “Craven” when it comes to events that somehow seem to unite left and right, north and south and rural and urban in this province.

And as we approach three months of virtual shutdown, we sure could use a party.

That it was cancelled for this year was expected because this is clearly a Stage-Five event in Moe’s five-stage Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan. The frightening reality is that while we are moving towards the re-opening of bars and restaurants in the more advanced stages, we are months away from such events with massive crowd gatherings.

They may not happen this year and it’s our inability to deal with this, and the thousands of other small economic disruptions in our economy, that may now be surpassing the virus spread as the biggest problem for the Saskatchewan Party government.

To its credit, Moe’s administration set out with a cautious and methodical re-opening plan that it’s managed to smoothly roll out dispute bumps in La Loche and Lloydminster.

That there has been so few major deviations from the plan or spikes in COVID-19 cases as a result of it speaks to the plan’s success.

But what the government needed to recognize is that the course it plotted would require a major public investment because of the length of the shutdown.

It is recent government spending support where it may also be accused of being overly cautious.

While there’s been $2 billion investment in highways and other infrastructure building, such high volume spending may be categorized as longterm investments rather than dollars being efficiently spent for immediate needs.

When it comes to the immediate needs, the Saskatchewan government has been criticized for having among the lowest per capita spending in the country for food back and shelter support.

And while the Sask. Party government was quick out of the gate with its Small Business Emergency Payment Program (SBEPP), the $50-million program has quickly drawn fire for being too small and not providing needed second payments to some forced to endure this lengthy shutdown at the potential costs of their livelihoods.

One gets the criticisms of adding to public debt or that the federal government’s Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) is just too easy to access.

But the longer the COVID-19 shutdown continues, the more the more help is required. That is now the big challenge.

Hanging on to what we’ve seen When I was four years old I needed surgery on my left eye.

Before going to the hospital, I got a new doll. It had a string in its back you could pull and as you released it the doll said one of several phrases. I would hold that doll close and listen as she talked to me. Cuddling with her brought comfort.

One night a nurse came to the side of my bed thinking I was Shelley Luedtke crying. She took my doll away telling me “we couldn’t have that kind of noise at night now could we.” I didn’t feel too kindly about her, even though she was doing it to keep the room quiet so other children could sleep.

All I knew was I no longer had my item of comfort.

Seeking comfort is natural. It offers strength and causes us to feel contented and more relaxed.

Comfort denotes warmth, security and feelings of well-being. It’s why we search for it in aromas, childhood objects, soothing music, familiar books and, of course, food. Sales of pasta and rice rose in triple digits over the last few weeks as people turned to favorite comfort dishes, while in many markets it was hard to get your hands on yeast as so many sought a classic comfort—bread. Board games got dusted off and jigsaw puzzles sold out. Outdoor Christmas lights were re-hung following the lead of networks who re-ran their slate of Christmas movies in a time when people were looking for something calming, nostalgic and yes, comforting.

But what would it feel like being unable to seek familiar comforts because, quite frankly, they were not there to begin with? More than simply serving as a catalyst to examine what we search for as comfort, perhaps this is a watershed moment inviting us not to get too comfortable too quickly with how things once were.

In some places, people got a tiny glimpse into what food shortages or food insecurities look like.

fingertips is something we need to remember, particularly since 820 million people around the world confront hunger on a daily basis. That was the reality long before we heard of this virus and it will be true long after we realize we’ve gone months without thinking about it.

In witnessing the mobilization of health care resources to target the threat, many have been impacted by the cancelation of appointments, the disruption of treatments and the delay of surgeries. It has been difficult for many, yet it is the everyday norm of 400 million people who have no access to any kind of even the most basic health care.

An oft repeated refrain is a desire for things to return to the way they used to be. That’s understandable. But instead of yearning for what was, perhaps we could seek out something different; something better based on what we’ve experienced.

Maybe we won’t take for granted—or treat as optional—our opportunity to gather with our faith community for worship. We won’t complain so quickly about our jobs and instead be thankful for employment and the team who help bring the best out of us. We won’t put off time with family or search for excuses to get out of social obligations but revel instead in how great it is simply to be together.

It often takes a disruption to how we are living to cause us to take another look at…well...how we are living. What we discover can change everything. Not for ourselves, but far more importantly, for others.

We would do well to take with us the glimpses into what, for us, is an unprecedented aberration while for so many others is yet another struggle to add to all the other painful things that make life so very uncomfortable.

Before we seek to return too quickly to our own comfort, we could make an effort to take hold of our peek into what makes life difficult in places we may fail to give much notice to. Let’s not be too hasty in grabbing back what makes us comfortable until we sense the urgency of needing to alleviate the overwhelming discomfort of others.

That’s my outlook.

GARDEN OASIS 6 privacy options for your yard If you want your yard to be a private oasis where you can relax unobserved, you’ll need to install a privacy screen. Here are six options to consider.

1. Louvres. The angle of the slats on most louvred privacy screens can be adjusted to allow plenty of natural light in while still shielding your yard from view. They’re usually made of wood or steel.

2. Trellises. Available in many different styles and sizes, trellises look great on their own or as a support for climbing plants. If you want a

Travelling with your pet

With careful planning, travelling with your pet can be easy and fun. Here’s how to prepare for a trip with your cat or dog.

Plan carefully Many hotels, vacation rentals and campgrounds welcome pets as long as certain rules are followed. If you’re travelling by air, be sure to contact the airline directly to familiarize yourself with their rules and regulations regarding animal transportation.

Make sure your cat or dog always wears a tag with your contact information on it.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to keep photos of your pet

handy. These will be invaluable if your animal gets lost.

Visit the vet Make an appointment with a veterinarian. You’ll want your pet to have a clean bill of health and be up to date on their vaccinations before setting out. If you’re travelling internationally, check the other country’s rules for bringing pets over the border. Some require proof of vaccination and/or that the animal be microchipped.

Get your pet ready If your four-legged companion isn’t used to travelling with you already, bring them on short trips beforehand to

prepare for the big one. Make sure your pet has a crate that’s large enough to stand up and turn around in and that they’re comfortable spending time inside of it.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to take your dog for a long walk or play games with your cat before setting out.

Being tired may make them less anxious.

Once your trip has begun, keep your cat or dog calm and comfortable. Provide reassurance by petting it and speaking to it in soothing tones. Make sure your pet has enough to drink and eat and let them out for potty breaks as often as you can.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Wilcott and Lemieux families on the death of Robin Wilcott on June 3 at the age of 73 years. Finally we received a much needed rain on Saturday it sure did seem to revive the plants and garden (even woke up the weeds). However we surely did not need that strong gusty wind – it uprooted one of my flowers before I managed to get out and rescue a couple of others.

I am hoping that it will sprout new roots so I can re-pot it – hopefully wishing I’m sure. The wind also blew apart the border fencing around my flower plot, which of course means I have to go “fencing” to repair the

damage. The real down fall to that chore is the amount of woodticks that seem to love to live on that fencing. Oh how I hate them critters to pieces.

The re-opening Phase Three is to happen today June 8. It will be so nice to be able to go out to your favorite café for a cup of coffee or even a meal, just remember to follow whatever rules that are put in place – it’s for everyone’s safety. Congratulations to Abby Phair of Weyburn who was the recipient of a $20,000 scholarship from the Circle of Scholars. Only 10 of these are awarded throughout Canada and given to those with the highest average upon entering university. Abby who is the daughter of Kevin and Anne Phair and the granddaughter of Joe and Anne Weatherald will be attending the University of Regina in the fall. She will be taking a four-year degree in Criminology and then continue on to a law degree.

Sympathy to Therese Lamontagne and family on the passing of her brother Roland Boulet at Olds, AB. He passed away on April 29 at the age of 92 years.

Sympathy also to Tom and Cher Badger on the passing of Cher’s son, Trent Ethington in Zion, Illinois. He passed away on May 21 at the age of 37 years. He leaves a wife, Erin and a child, Avery. Tom and Cher travelled to Zion to attend the funeral service. They appreciated the many friends. neighbours and community members for the flowers, food and virtual hugs.

While Jake Lamoureaux was in Nebraska on June 1. the temperature was 37 degrees centigrade (for us old timers that is 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) He had to travel north to get cooler temperatures.

I promised them a reward and in less than 1/2 an hour they had about 1000 dandelions picked. There reward was a delayed Easter Egg Hunt. It was a win, win situation.

Dan and Marguerite Van Dresar have moved to the residence on West Railway. This house was partially built on the Brehaut farm and moved to this site and finished for Grace Brehaut to live in. This was in the early 1970’s. Marg Dixon then purchased it and later it became Paulette North’s home. Enjoy your new surroundings.

The situation in the USA is very serious. Whether you agree with the protests on not you have to realize that for so many years nothing has changed for the Afro Americans!! It is hard for us to understand their plight and we need to put ourselves in their shoes. I found this quote, made by an abolitionist Sarah Moore Grimke (1792-1873), “All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.” It reminds us of the George Floyd death over 150 years later.

We lost one of our residents this week: Ralph Mills. His funeral from the Associated Gospel Church was on line; and they loaned us a small user friendly TV so we could watch the funeral. None of the ten mourners were visible; only the casket and pianist, Carol; Pastor Alex, and his wife, Amber who sang and Freda with guitar. One member of the family spoke and Bob Thiessen for the congregation. Sadly lacking was the sense of comfort and community which comes when that packed church is singing in four part harmony around you, but overall a wonderful “goodbye for now.”

Fred Krukoff was out yesterday checking on his bean patch south of the east door. They grow tall, with long pods; a welcome addition to soups and stews. His mother brought the parent seeds from Russia in 1899; and as far as Fred knows, he is the only child who still plants them.

Clinton Houston took his sister, Janet Mark, to the farm to have lunch outside with Philip, the other man in her life. The crabapple blossoms were glorious. Deer have spread crabapples all over the farm.

The lilacs were not out yet, but Charlotte brought a bouquet yesterday.

We had one lovely evening singsong in the courtyard last week, when Mary Thiessen brought her quitar and another inside hymns we need to sing.

This was done by order in council and not even put before the house, which in its self is a ridiculous thing to do with a major piece of legislation. Most likely political posturing and catering to the big cities like Toronto and Montreal, where they know nothing about the

By Kelly Johnson The Observer Emily Ellis of Arcola is working on her Masters in Film Making and Media Arts. Ellis grew up in Arcola where she attended public school and graduated high school.

After high school, Ellis attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia where she graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History.

Ellis then enrolled in the University of Glasgow, Scotland in September 2019 to complete the one-year Masters Program offered by the university. She is in the dissertation phase of the program that forms one part of the Masters Program.

Ellis is doing a “stop motion” animation film, which is a traditional animation comprised by making frame by frame movements by the characters, placed on various sets. The sets and characters are handmade from scratch and used in the making of the animation.

By Linda Wegner While I have always tried to avoid commenting on specific news items in these articles, my heart compels me to convey my prayers and condolences to the families of George Floyd; I pray that they, and so many others, will find some measure of comfort and strength through all this pain.

Stories of the massive marches across North America and around the world are powerful but it was several news items that cheered my heart and inspired these words.

The first, a photo of a lone police officer kneeling beside a marching crowd; the next, a group of officers kneeling on

the steps of their headquarters building; and the third, a photo and story that appeared on Facebook several weeks ago.

A U.S. newspaper carried the story and I quote some of that piece: “Police in Fayetteville, North Carolina, made a surprising move Monday during a tense stand off with protesters seeking justice in the case of George Floyd, who died after being restrained by police in Minneapolis. All 60-plus officers knelt before the marchers…. ‘As a show of understanding of the pain that is in our community and our nation regarding equality, the…

Witnesses say some officers and protesters responded to the move with tears.”

I, too, was moved to tears as I asked God to move my and our hearts to kneel together in prayer while facing any and all of life’s challenges. How many inter-personal, family, church and community conflicts do we address first on our knees?

“When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.” (Matthew 18:18-20)

Cornerstone reveals plans to close out school year

By David Willberg Estevan Mercury The South East Cornerstone Public School Division has more information on its plans for the rest of the school year.

In a letter to parents, director of education Lynn Little said that with June approaching,

there are some important dates and other information that need to be released.

Supplemental learning for most schools will continue until June 24 to align with the existing board and Ministry of Education-approved calendar. There may be some rescheduling of

virtual meetings to allow for opportunities for staff to engage in preparation for the next school year.

“Your child’s teacher(s) and school administration will be in communication regarding end of the year wrapup,” the letter stated.

Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee “Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.” (Isaiah 40:31).

Father Dan Yasinski shares the story of Angelo Dundee, corner man for Muhammad Ali. It is Dundee who taught Ali to “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”. We have the Holy Spirit as our corner man, Yasinski says.

When the world knocks us down, Jesus has promised, “I will send you the advocate”, the Holy Spirit who is our counsellor, comforter, helper and encourager.

Meet Lyna, a single mother in Malawi, who cares for seven children on her own. Her one knee is bent at a right angle, caused by dietary deficiencies in childhood. But Lyna is a fighter. She has kept her children in school.

“Sometimes we would go two days without eating,” Lyna says.

“There was nothing I could do. The children would complain, ‘Why are you not preparing food for us?’” She showed me the maize field two kilometres from her house where she had worked. But the income was never enough.

Now Lyna has a black sewing machine

through one of Hope and Healing’s livelihood programs. She can provide continuous food for her family. Lyna stretches out her arms and dances in front of her kids while singing. They laugh and giggle.

Lyna goes to church near her kids’ school.

She gets her strength and joy from God. “I prayed to God that He would do something to change my life, to bring more money to my family. God has answered my prayers. I feel like I have received a breakthrough.” (Hope and Healing International February 24, 2020).

What happens to us when we get sick or face adversity in our lives?

Often we want to block out all other areas and think only of our physical health. St. John Paul II believed sickness was precisely the time to ask some of the hardest questions in life, to dive deeper into your own spiritual life.

“It is precisely in times of sickness that the need to find adequate responses to the ultimate questions about human life is the most pressing: questions on the meaning of pain, suffering and death itself … a mystery in which Christ incorporates our lives in himself, opening them

to a new and definitive birth for the life that will never end.” (Letter on the World Day of the Sick 2005).

When we are sick, we are always faced with the possibility of death. This can be a scary thought, but for the Christian, it should also include thoughts of hope, John Paul II said.

“In Christ lies the hope of true, full health; the salvation that he brings is the true response to the ultimate questions about man.

There is no contradiction between earthly health and eternal salvation, since the Lord died for the integral salvation of the human person and of all humanity.”

John Paul II concludes: Jesus is the answer to sickness, suffering and death. He alone can offer us peace during times of uncertainty and grant us a glimpse of the glory that is to come.

During this Pentecost Season that follows Easter, we can access the advocate Jesus promised to send. When we face cancer, pain, sickness, Covd-19 and even just our daily struggles we need the power of the Holy Spirit to pick us up off the canvas so we can once again float like a butterfly.

John Robert (Bob) Robins With deep sadness we, the family, announce that John Robert (Bob) Robins passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the age of 98 years in Veterans Lodge, Victoria, BC. Bob was a longtime resident of Redvers, Sk. He was predeceased by wife Annabelle in 2001 and grandson Derek in 1981. Bob is lovingly remembered by daughters; Sharon Lafferty (Randy), Tanis Sommerfeld (Ralph); sons Gerald (Jean), and Darrell (Rosalie); grandchildren Tessa and Derek; and his brother Gerald.

He was born in Ponteix, SK in 1922. The family moved to Weyburn where Bob attended school. In 1941 he joined the army and served in Holland, Belgium and Germany in WW11. From 1946 until 1984 he was RM of Antler Secretary (Administrator) in Redvers. After retirement he and Annabelle spent many winters in Yuma, AZ. He resided in Sidney BC for the past 23 years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

William Sinclair was a big part of the community

By David Willberg Estevan Mercury A well-known and beloved member of the community passed away in late May. William Sinclair died on May 24 following a battle with cancer that spanned several years.

Born in Scotland, Sinclair came to Canada when he was 21, and eventually came to Estevan.

Throughout his life, Sinclair worked as a musician, a writer, a lay minister in the Catholic church, a motivational speaker and a podcaster, among other jobs.

In an interview with Southeast Lifestyles earlier this year, he noted that he used to have a lot of anger, but he was able to find peace and develop a positive outlook in life. He used that outlook to help others.

Sinclair and his wife Edrina operated a Bible camp in Kenosee Lake for a few years, and they also penned a column, Dirty Socks and Banana

Province announces students and staff will return to class for the 2020-21 school year The provincial government announced on Tuesday prekindergarten to Grade 12 students and staff will be returning to the classroom for the 2020-21 school year.

Schools have been closed in the province since March 20 due to an indefinite suspension set out by the province in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school year is set to start as early as Sept. 1.

“Reopening schools is a significant milestone for our province, and an important step for families to get back to a new normal,” said Education Minister Gordon Wyant in a media release.

“Thank you to the teachers and staff for the tremendous job they have done connecting with their students while in-class learning has been suspended,” he added.

According to a media release sent out by the province, the Ministry of Education, with input from the Education Response Planning Team, will distribute public health guidelines in concert with the chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab.

Guidelines will be available to school divisions as early as next week to ensure schools are safe for students, staff and caregivers.

The media release added Shahab will continue providing advice and recommendations as the planning and implementation process takes place.

The media release also said while a return to the classroom in the fall is the scenario being planned for, there will be contingency plans in place in the event that there becomes an “elevated transmission risk” and in-class learning cannot resume as planned provincially or regionally.

Wyant later said in a press conference the contingency is dependent on what the state of affairs are in September. He added alternative entrances, staggered schedules and online learning will be a part of the plan.

“I think we’ve had some great experiences over the last number of months with online learning,” said Wyant.

“We’ve learned a lot about alternate delivery of educational opportunities to kids. That can all form part of what those alternative protocols might be.

The key here is to ensure the safety of kids in the classroom, but to make sure we provide an equitable learning opportunity for all the kids across the entire province,” he added.

Shahab said they have been paying close attention to the school reopening in Australia, which has had low COVID-19 transmission like Saskatchewan.

“We have been reassured by the fact that they have not seen large scale transmission in the school settings. Australia and Southeast Asia have been able to open more in the presence of low transmission, more or less in a regular fashion,” said Shahab.

“If local epidemiology is not as low as it is now, there may be some additional considerations that may apply at a local or regional level. We will obviously continue to see how the school year continues in the Southern Hemisphere to learn from that as well,” he added.

Bread, that appeared in Lifestyles from 20112015. They moved to Moose Jaw in 2012 to launch a career as speakers, and then moved to Kenosee Lake.

They moved back to Estevan earlier this year to be closer to their family.

The Sinclairs had four children, Maria, Michelle, David and Nicole, and three grandchildren.

Since he died, tributes to Sinclair have been pouring in on Facebook and other websites where his obituary is posted. People have been recognizing him for the outlook that he had, and for his

generous nature.

A graveside was held on May 27 at the Estevan City Cemetery. The service was posted online so that people who couldn’t attend could watch it.

In lieu of flowers, his family asked for donations to the William Sinclair Reading Space at the Estevan Family Centre. This can be done by visiting a GoFundMe campaign page that was created, or the Estevan Family Resource Centre’s website.

The family centre was among the many organizations that Sinclair and his family have supported over the years.
