Patricia Himmelspach and Michael Ellis share a chuckle while preparing the menu of the day at Michael’s Coffee Shop and Bakery in Carlyle.
Kelly Johnson The Observer Located on Main St. in downtown Carlyle, Michael’s has been serving up tasty items from its menu since opening in 2014. The trendy cafe moved to Carlyle from Arcola where it originally opened in 2007 and it is owned and operated by Michael Ellis and his wife Cindy. Now Michael’s is expanding, opening a second location in Estevan. The new location will be at #9 - 461 King Street, which is located to the north of the Estevan Shoppers Mall. Opening day for the conveniently located expansion will be mid-April to the first week of May. The store in Estevan will offer the same quality and similar menu and with time, developing its own unique character. Stuffed crepes, cinnamon buns and pizza are mainstays on the menu, as well as cappuccinos, lattes and specialty coffees. Michael’s new location will be well-positioned in the heart of the city’s shopping district and will definitely add to the culinary experience in the city of Estevan. The Ellises reside in Arcola, coming to the area in a circuitous route. They are originally from the Maritimes, having lived in British Columbia and Regina before taking up roots in southeast Saskatchewan.
