Living Skies CrossFit raises $1,300 for charity

By Kelly Johnson Carlyle Observer Living Skies CrossFit Training Centre held a weight loss program and fundraiser during the month of January.

The “Jonzin January” weight loss challenge was open for entries to all members of both the Estevan and Carlyle locations of Living Skies CrossFit. Twenty-six members anted up, raising a sum of $1,300. Each participant, upon entering, named a charity of

their choice to donate the proceeds to. Also, each participant took an oath of no alcohol, drugs or junk food for the month of January.

Michelle Walsh was the top loser leading all participants, who in total, lost a combined weight of 50 kilograms.

Her charity of choice was the Estevan Family Resource Centre.

Living Skies CrossFit has two locations: in Estevan at 1009-6th Street and adjacent to Highway #13 in Car-

lyle. Memberships run month-to-month and cost from $130 to 150, depending on the desired fitness program one chooses.

Carson Brady, who is the proprietor of the businesses, opened the Carlyle location in October 2015 and the Estevan location in 2018.

The facilities offer several training exercises, including power lifting, gymnastics as well as rope climbing, peg board climb, and stationary bikes.

Dakota Rose takes home the big prize Kelly Johnson The Observer Friday, February 7 was a great day for the Manor Fire Department and two lucky winners of Manor’s “Chase the Ace” fundraiser, as this was the final evening for the jackpot to be won. The King George Tavern was filled to capacity and all ticket holders were hoping to have a chance to draw the “Ace of Spades”. $12,082 was up for grabs should the first name pulled out of the ticket drum pull the Ace of Spades.

Shannon Knibbs, who was not in attendance,

was the first name pulled. Her proxy drew the Five of Hearts, netting her $1,582. This left $10,500 for the eventual winner.

After more than a dozen people had their chance of pulling the coveted Ace of Spades, Dakota Rose (not in attendance), had his name picked and his proxy drew the “Ace of Spades”.

On an interesting note - Rose just happened to win the first night’s draw when the fundraiser began last fall. Congratulations Dakota.

Manor Fire department raised $10,500 through this fundraiser and will be purchasing equipment for the Department.

Moe shows skills in Co-op dispute

By Murray Mandryk Premier Scott Moe hasn’t always received a lot of credit for his political skills.

Perhaps underestimating him is a big mistake.

He, did after all, win the Saskatchewan Party leadership in what was likely most intense and hotly contested political event in our province in the last decade.

And he’s righting the province’s listing fiscal ship without losing much political popularity.

To do so requires formidable political skill, but, having inherited both a healthy province and a healthy Sask. Party from his predecessor Brad Wall, it’s skill that may be somewhat overlooked.

That’s something that becomes easier to do when there isn’t much political competition from across the aisle in Legislative Assembly … and when you have as solid a base, as Moe and the Sask. Party does in rural Saskatchewan that makes the result of this fall’s general election almost a foregone conclusion.

But what is sometimes missed are the developments that get a politician and his or her party to where they are. In Moe’s case, it’s been a case of skilfully capitalizing on changing circumstance. Consider how Moe has handled himself in the increasingly messy fight between Federated Co-operative Ltd. (FCL) and Unifor in their lockout dispute at Regina’s Co-op Refinery.

What should not be missed is how much this dispute really represents a political swing in this province, a swing in favour of Moe and the Sask.

Party.

The NDP’s loss of support in rural Saskatchewan has everything to do with its policies that clearly didn’t keep up the changes economic environment.

However, it should be noted that a big part of that changing economic environment isreflected in the changes the three entities once critical to the rural economy, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Credit Unions and the Co-ops, that were traditionally aligned with the NDP. The Wheat Pool met its demise during the Roy Romanow government years, a victim of the changes in farming and grain marketing. The Credit Unions are still here and playing a vital part in rural communities. However, it’s likely fair to say that they certainly seem to function more like a bank than the traditional credit union model and less aligned with the NDP. As for the Federated Co-op, it’s biggest criticism (at least from those on the left) seems to be that it’s just like any large, successful retail business. This takes us its current fight with Unifor and where Moe seems to be demonstrating significant political skill.

Whether Moe is right to suggest the Regina police to step in to enforce the court ordered-removal of the barricades preventing fuel trucks from coming and going is a controversial matter.

Police are there to keep the peace and their involvement in any dispute should always be a last resort. This is, especially so in a tense picket line.

That said, it’s also now clear the union is defying a court order and has been fined $100,000 as a of the writing of this. More fines are on the way.

It’s also clear that FCL is raising legitimate concerns that the barricades may soon be causing a fuel shortage and seems to pressuring the Sask. Party government to pressure the Regina Police to do something soon.

As a result, we have the unusual scenario when the one-time ally of NDP is in a pitched battle with another one-time ally of the NDP, the union movement. The unions also want Moe to intervene, but to appoint an arbitrator.

So there sits Moe in the middle, seemingly, the voice of reason between the two one-time NDP allies who is offering a mediator (if Unifor takes down the barricades and behaves reasonably).

And he seems to have gotten there by using his underestimated political skills.

Billion dollar gestures may not add up A 29-year old man featured in an article about Generation Y relationships said he has stopped dating because he just can’t afford it. He is among the 30% of adults ages 22-37 who say dating is too expensive and they’re not willing to put that sort of money into what he described as “a completely worthless investment.” Ouch.

Research suggests the cost of a typical date night in Canada Shelley Luedtke comes in at around $127, with the most expensive night being Toronto at $150, while the least costly was Quebec City at $112. Using criteria including a meal, wine, movie and cab, researchers compared this to global locations. The most expensive city in the world to try dating is Oslo, Norway at $211, followed by London, England at $188. The least expensive city to test the dating pool is Ankara, Turkey, at a budget-friendly $48.

Several millennials agreed with the premise of the article stating dating is too big a hit on their wallet, but there was also a fair bit of pushback from those who say it’s an excuse to justify unwillingness to put the work into a relationship. But while some are avoiding the dating scene, others are embracing it—married couples.

The idea of a married couple ‘date night’ has been encouraged by therapists and counselors for a long time, but the last decade has seen a marked rise in the number heeding the advice. Surveys of 10,000 couples over a 10-year period found that those who had a dedicated date night once per month reported being more satisfied in their marriages than those that didn’t.

It’s Valentine’s Day and the pressure to come up with grand, romantic plans is on, particularly for men in relationships with women who believe this is a make-or-break day. According to a survey quoted

by Business Insider, 53% of single women said they would break up with their boyfriend if he didn’t live

up to their expectations for Valentine’s Day. That’s a lot of pressure on one day.

To be honest, I am far more grateful when my husband comes through on all the other days—the more ordinary days when the gestures may not be as romantic or whimsical, but oh, so necessary. When I’m sick. When an appliance breaks down or there’s a problem with a vehicle. When schedules feel overwhelming or important decisions need to be made.

It’s not glamorous, but it’s the stuff of life. Of family.

Of marriage.

We have enjoyed some pretty spectacular days, made all the sweeter because of some of the days that weren’t quite so dazzling. We’ve sat side-by-side on bleachers cheering on our kids, but also in the doctor’s office when the news wasn’t what we expected.

We have held hands walking through world-class gardens, as well as at the funerals of beloved people.

We have experienced the highs of favorite vacation spots along with the lows of some really tough days that came uninvited.

Flowers are beautiful. So is an empty laundry basket. Or a filled gas tank. A fresh cup of coffee. Or simply, a grilled cheese sandwich enjoyed without interruption of a phone. A petal strewn path leading to a candlelight dinner can be wondrously romantic; all the more so, if it is with someone who has been with you when the setting wasn’t quite so perfect or the food not nearly so gourmet.

Economic projections suggest $27.4 billion will be spent on Valentine’s Day this year, with married people leading the way. That’s up $6.7 billion from last year. This is great news for retailers, but perhaps intimidating for those who don’t have the resources to “do-it-up big”. Rest assured that while some may have extravagance in mind, the average spending will be right around the cost of that date night in Ankara.

The celebration of love can be truly special on February 14. But it’s even better when you know the one you love will follow through with a demonstration of commitment on February 15.

That’s my outlook.

Can we believe in Whiling Willie? Well somewhere someplace someone will say that Willie is correct – as according to the media Willie did not see his shadow and that’s supposed mean an early spring. But looking out the window here the sun was shining so of course Willie would see his shadow and that means more weeks of winter. So which – who do you believe? I think they should let old Willie stay sleeping and not wake him up he looked so tired and confused, I know I would be if someone woke me up too early. I’m sure we’ll get what we get.

On Feb. 3 there were many family members and friends from near and far who gathered at the Alida Memorial Hall filling it to capacity for the friendship luncheon, which followed the graveside funeral of Lisette Dubuc at Cantal.

On Feb. 6 Gray and Edel Cowan attended the

production of “Bedbugs” by Leah Genuario performed by the Redvers Elementary School Drama Club at the Redvers Catholic Church. Their granddaughter Ainsley Cowan was performing with 16 other classmates and they all did an excellent job.

Well done by the students and directors and all who helped in any way possible. Also attending this performance were Ainsley’s parents Tim and Shelly and sister Lacie Nilsen from Estevan.

On Feb. 7 there were a number of people who gathered at Alida Rink and had a fun time practicing their curling skills while others enjoyed skating.

There was also a cribbage card game in progress. If you want something to do come out on Friday evenings to the rink and joy in any activity you may find taking place. See you there sometime.

Congratulations to Colton and Danielle Frederickson on the birth of their son, Kohen Kenneth on Feb. 6. He weighed 8 lbs., 3 oz.

Jean Bogner, who was nominated by the Wheels and Saddle Club, has been selected by the Sask.

Horse Federation to be inducted into the Saskatchewan Federation Hall of Fame. This will take place on Mar. 14.

Congratulations to Heather Lutz (former Wawota resident and daughter of Kelly and Hugette) who married Xander Williemse on Feb 1. The ceremony took place at the Lucky Bastard Distillery in Saskatoon.

Betty Drumm has returned home after spending six weeks in Saskatoon. She visited with daughter, Jodi Nixon and family. Paul Drumm and family from Regina joined them for Christmas.

The Alida Community extends sincere sympathy to the Poirier and Cruywels families of the death of Stanley (Stan) Poirier who passed away Feb. 7 at the age of 87 years. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Feb. 15 at Cantal R.C. Church. Following the internment at the Parish Cemetery, a friendship luncheon was held at Alida Hall.

Another Sunday was spent watching curling – it was both the Manitoba and Alberta Men’s Championship playoffs – semi-finals and finals – so great curling all day long. Manitoba has a new team going to the Brier in Kingston – Team Gunnlougson after he defeated Team McEwen and Alberta will be represented by Team Bottcher when he defeated Team Sturmay. However, McEwen will still be going as he will be playing Team Howard for the Wildcard position. Good curling fellas, see you later at the Brier.

Tournament of Hearts is the next curling event being held in Moose Jaw and will be televised beginning on Feb. 14 with the Wildcard game. Good curling, great watching – enjoy.

Breakfast at the Rink this past Sunday, Feb. 9 saw Kitchen Group # 3 in charge and they served up a total of 33 breakfasts – Way to go guys and gals, another successful morning and job well done. It’s just great to see so many familiar faces coming back each week and enjoying the breakfast. Next week its Kitchen Group # 4 back at the helm – and the question remains – Will they beat or match the Breakfast Challenge total of 60? This total was set at the first breakfast – only time will tell. See you at the rink.

Circle of Friends this week considered “Sharp Knives”. Grace said “they always needed sharpening.” Mariann, “Good enough to peel potatoes.” Carol did them herself. Marie’s husband did them, but Ray gave her a knife sharpener. Janet’s father sharpened them on a little grinding wheel run by a foot pedal. She remembers sitting on the stairs, watching the sparks fly. Ralph Mills got the job of sharpening the teacher’s pencils

with his jackknife. At tea time the men pulled out jack knives with little gadgets attached.

Margaret cut the tip of her finger cutting frozen margarine. Her kids told it at school as, “Mom cut off her fingers.” Leora had happy memories of the butchering crowd. Ralph’s family did a lot of butchering, so knives had to be “sharp” enough to shave a pig.

Local coach to guide Estevan’s new midget AAA team

By David Willberg Estevan Mercury The new Estevan Bears midget AAA hockey team has turned to a well-travelled local individual to be their first head coach and general manager.

The Estevan Minor Hockey Association have hired Jeff Smith for the role. Smith, who is currently an associate coach with the Estevan Bruins, will finish his commitments with the junior club this season and then step aside so that the Bears can be his hockey focus.

Originally from Estevan, Smith grew up in Regina. He played junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels, where he won a Memorial Cup national title in 2001.

Then he played professional hockey in Canada and the U.S., winning a Calder Cup title with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League in 2005.

He also played overseas in pro hockey leagues in England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia before retiring in 2017.

He joined the Bruins coaching staff in early 2018.

Smith said it’s a great honour to be the first person in charge of the Bears.

“I’ve always wanted to be a head coach. It’s a level below (junior hockey), but I don’t believe it’s a step back. It’s a step forward for me,” Smith said in an interview with Lifestyles.

Player recruitment will be the biggest task for Smith before the Bears begin their inaugural season this fall. Not only will they draw from the Estevan area, but they will cover the entire southeast region, which spans from Highway 1 to the north to the U.S. border in the south, and Highway 6 in the west to the Manitoba border in the east.

“There are so many kids in the southeast who are not on an AP (affiliated player) list or who aren’t signed with somebody. There is a lot of good kids out there who we’ll have a good, long look at, and our scouting staff has already been on that, and has a list of a few hundred kids already that we want to have a look at,” said Smith.

The Bears can’t talk to kids already committed to other midget AAA programs about coming to the program until the end of the regular season in February.

The club will get a look at talent when it has a spring camp from April 24-26.

He’ll also be tasked with everything from hiring staff members to designing uniforms.

“The board that we have is above and beyond what I expected.

They’re really helpful, and they’ve done more than enough to help us become a good team and put everything in the right way,” said Smith.

When he was playing in Europe, Smith coached a minor hockey team to the league final, but this will be the first time he has coached minor hockey in Canada.

“It’s been a nice transition going from the Estevan Bruins to the Estevan Bears,” said Smith. “It’s the same rink, it’s familiar and everything else.”

It will be a full-time gig, but Smith expects he will still have a job in the community.

Bears director of player personnel Cole Zahn said Smith was a person they identified early on as someone to lead the Bears into the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

“One of the things that really struck us is we’ve seen what’s he’s done over the past two years with the Bruins skill development-wise, helping the younger guys out as much as he can, and just being a players’ coach,” said Zahn.

It also helps that he’s a local person who still

has roots in the city. And he has strong connections in the game from his playing career.

“Even having his dad (John Smith) being involved with the Regina Pat Canadians for as many years as he was, Jeff has built up a lot of contacts through John, especially in a younger league here,” said Zahn.

The Bears had about a dozen applicants for the head coach and general manager’s job, including some from Alberta to Quebec. There were also a couple from the U.S. “We were pretty blown away with the applicants that we had and where they were coming from,” said Zahn.

Smith was the only person from Estevan who applied. They also had someone from Pilot Butte apply, which is in their catchment area, and others from Saskatchewan voiced an interest in the job.

“It was a tough process. We had some pretty high-end guys who had very, very good resumes and very, very good interviews, and for us to ultimately come out with Jeff Smith, it says a lot about Jeff himself,” said Zahn.

Smith said he is thankful for his time with the Bruins, and now he is looking forward to getting the Bears off the ground.

It’s playoff season in the Big Six Nicole Currie Sports Contributor On Feb. 4 the Cougars hosted the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings in a make-up game from Jan. 17.

It was a great way for the Cougars to end the season - with a win.

The win was important as it gave us home ice advantage going into playoffs against the Bienfait Coalers (which should have been an advantage. Fingers crossed for the 17th).

The Wheat Kings struck twice before Johnstone responded and got the Cougars on the board. Yellow Grass scored first with 9 minutes left and then again with 3 minutes remaining.

Johnstone, with help from Struthers and Rose, cut their lead in

half with just under 3 minutes left in the first.

The lone goal of the second period was scored by McGonigal with help from J Matthewson and Struthers.

The game is tied and we’re off to the third period! The Cougars lit it up scoring 3 goals. It was a great crowd and they were ecstatic with every goal scored and save made.

Turgeon, Shaw and Brown were the snipers and McGonigal, Geiger with 2, J Matthewson and his 3rd of the night, Struthers with an assist. Yellow Grass scored with 1:52 left of the board and it was a 5-3 victory for the Cougars. The shots were 53-28 for the Cougars.

Then we had our first home game of play offs and let’s just say, it

is a game the Cougars are happy is over and yet nobody wants to start a best of 5 series, (or any series) one down.

There were lots of chances, shots, saves and penalties and frustrations in this game.

The wonderful world of sports!! The score was 3-0 after the first, 7-1 after the second. McGonigal with help from J. Matthewson was our lone goal. One more goal in the third for the Coalers and they won 8-1.

Now to just “Shake, shake, shake, shake it off, shake it off.”

Game 2 is in Bienfait at 8:15, Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Game 3 is in Carlyle at 8:00, Monday, Feb. 17.

Novice Cougars team up with Estevan Bruins Kelly Johnson The Observer Carlyle Novice Cougar teams 1 and 2 had four players from the Estevan SJHL Junior A Bruins join them on the ice for their practice on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Both the Novice Cougar teams were chosen as the Carson Safety Services “Minor Hockey Teams of the Month”, which is a program that sees the teams receive various perks under the program, one of which was being able to test their skills along side

four players on the current roster of the Estevan Bruins, at practice on their home ice.

Suiting up for the Bruins were Kade McMillen, Dane Sardelli, Eric Boers and Mason Strutt. Danny Ewen, the Bruins social organizer, also accompanied the players on the short road trip out of Estevan.

The players loosened up with a few warm-up drills and then it was onto the shootout. They split up into two squads, each side stacked with two of the Bruins. Each squad had a set number of pucks and the side to score all the pucks first, won the shoot-

out. The competition was spirited with both sides determined to come out on top. The goalies, getting the bulk of the action, were able to stone a couple of the Bruins and as well the Novices made some good moves that impressed the guest Bruin players.

The Carson Safety Services program also provides the Novice teams with tickets to an SJHL game in Estevan, a tour of the Bruin’s dressing room, as well as a pizza party during the first intermission for the players and parents attending.

Novice Cougars suffer first regular season loss Nathan Coffey Sports Contributor The Carlyle Novice Cougars (Chris) were back in action on Feb. 8 vs the Estevan Canucks for their sixth league game of the season. Unfortunately for the boys they ran into a hot Estevan team and dropped the back and forth barn burner, 16-11 for their first loss of the regular season, bringing their record to 5-1.

It is my understanding that team manager/ DJ Danielle Steele tried her new personal playlist of Sarah McLaughlin, Micheal Buble, N’Sync, and O-town, to fire up the boys. Danielle, let’s just stick to what was working. Thanks. ( I cannot confirm this is 100 % accurate).

Despite not getting the W, there was lots of great play and also plenty of learning moments that I’m sure will make

this team better going forward. Like Wayne Gretzky said, “You never lose, you either win or you learn.”

Owen “Top Cheese” Light, as per usual, played great, leading the charge offensively and also put in some hard-fought minutes on the defensive side of the puck. His stick stayed en fuego, but that’s no surprise, he’s been a force all season long.

The only way I could be as consistent as “Top Cheese” is if I lived on a diet of strictly Metamucil. En fuego, for those wondering, is Spanish for on fire. Taking note of how much “Coast to Coast” Eaton is trying to translate English to French and vice versa I thought I’d try my hand at being bilingual too.

Brody “Crash the Crease” Knelson added a level to his game against the Canucks

that should have the rest of the league trembling. Playing with a bit of a nasty edge, he’s taking the playbooks of Ogie Oglethorpe, and Tim “Dr. Hook” McCracken and making them his own. If that doesn’t scare you, maybe you should talk to Paul Newman. “Crash the Crease” heads to the sin bin with a smile on his face and a fire in his belly and sources are reporting he’s looking to lead the league in penalty minutes. Good thing for the Cougars strong PK. Nash “The Flash” Faber had his hands full with the Canucks offensive firepower, but handled the big minutes real well and without his tight D, this game could have got away from the boys quickly.

Teams can enter Alameda’s big annual bonspiel

By David Willberg Estevan Mercury The Alameda Curling Rink will once again host a 64-team bonspiel in 2020.

In mid-March, the hockey ice will be transformed once again into five sheets of curling ice for some fun and entertaining curling action.

The event is happening from March 25-29 instead of the customary January date this year due to a scheduling issue with the icemaker. Also a factor is the ease of being able to remove the ice after the bonspiel instead of turning it back into skating ice, as has been done in past years.

The money raised

during the bonspiel is used by the Alameda Recreation Board, consisting of curling, hockey, figure skating and baseball/softball groups, to continue providing facilities the community.

“The importance of the monies raised is tenfold in providing activities and events within our community for all ages,” stated a news release for the event.

There will be cash payouts for prizes. The community has stepped up to donate some auction items and door prizes. The generosity of those in surrounding areas really makes this very successful each time the club hosts it.

The news release for the event notes that the organizers are aware that the Whitewood 64rink bonspiel is at the same time. They said they discussed it with the Whitewood committee before changing the date, and both felt they wouldn’t significantly interfere with each other. There are only one or two teams that might overlap and both communities are looking forward to having successful events.

Even after the tough loss, that even showed the Cougars pulling their goalie to try mount a comeback, was over, the boys held their heads high and headed down to Estevan for the Bruins game. Maybe it was just me, but I’m sure the good vibes coming from the Novice Cougars had a lot to do with helping the Bruins defeat the Flin Flon Bombers.

The Estevan Bruin organization treated the team like royalty. They showed them around the rink, treated them to pizza and definitely all the high fives they could handle. Thanks Bruins.

I’m expecting these boys to come out flying next week and do everything they can to get back in the Win column as they take on two more Estevan teams. Good luck guys and we will see you at the rink.

By Linda Wegner In many parts of Canada, Family Day (Jour de la famille in Quebec) is celebrated on the third Monday of February. Not only does it provide a day off in the middle of winter, its real purpose is to remind us of, and to celebrate with, those who constitute “family” for us.

As usual, I looked for dictionary meanings and here’s what I came up: first, “a group of one or more parents and their children living together as a unit.” It doesn’t take any thinking to realize that definition isn’t nearly broad enough in today’s society but it’s a beginning.

The second definition that popped up on my computer screen read like this: “all the descendants of a common ancestor”. Well that certainly describes the wonderful family I married into but it also indicates that members of our “brood” extend into countless countries, centuries and contexts.

REASON FOR

A third definition given lists “a group of related things” thus making folks with no blood or ancestral relationship, members of a family. Hmm, that does describe how I feel about our immediate neighbourhood. Though we rarely see each other except in passing, I wouldn’t hesitate to call on anyone who lives on our street and in the same block as us if I was in real need.

My church family has always been a vital part of my life. While

there’s no such thing as a perfect church, total unity of doctrine or complete personal compatibility, our “family” worships together as a unit. We’re all believers through a common Saviour and I feel related to them as brothers and sisters. Sadly, not everyone finds themselves in that situation but I pray each of you, my readers, will find such a God honouring home.

Kingston Midstream ices victory in Carlyle Oilmen’s Bonspiel

By Kelly Johnson The Observer The annual Oilmen’s Bonspiel was held at the Carlyle Curling Club the weekend of Feb. 7 to 9.

Dave East skipped the Kingston Midstream rink consisting of lead Laura Thompson, second Brandy East and third Devin Brown to the win over the Faber Electric rink to win the 2020 Carlyle Oilmen’s Bonspiel taking the A Event, shaking hands after six ends.

Winning the B event was the PureChem (Robin) rink skipped by Cody Grimes, Lead Klint Brownridge, Second

Robin Brown and Third Jason Yunick, knocking off their company rival, the PureChem (Bruce) rink in a close one.

Carlyle Hooters showed they could win on the bumpy ice by defeating Nankivell Trucking in the C Event. Skipping the Hooter rink was Ryan Benjamin, with Lead Charity Brown, Second Steve Schultz and Third Mitch Weber.

Each team played four games with the first draw on Friday and continuing on Saturday to determine the seeding for the Sunday playoffs.

All games were scheduled for eight ends.

The Friday night

supper of smoked beef and pork tenderloins with all the fixings was catered by Rylan Weir and was sponsored by JJ Trucking. Carlyle Legion served lunch on Saturday and Sunday and PureChem treated the curlers to pizza and wings on Saturday night.

The bonspiel organizers were Brandy East, Chaelynn Boutin and Laura Thompson. This year there were 11 teams competing for top honours, and cash prizes.

The Calcutta was won by TS & M, while the Hooter Hockey Team rink won the cooler draw and Ryan Benjamin won the gift certificate draw.
