From front page - Power outages

By Darcie Khounnoraj Kipling Citizen Some of the province woke up to dark, cold mornings and without the service of power in their homes and businesses on Tuesday morning, December 4th.

Areas east of Saskatoon, areas in and around Moose Jaw and Regina and in most of south east areas were impacted by the sudden and lengthily power outages.

“The power was officially restored to everyone impacted by the widespread power outage in the Southeast part of the province (Tuesday throughout the day). By about 10pm at night, that’s when we got Carnduff and Oxbow areas back online, so there wasn’t anyone without power overnight -there was a chance that there were some isolated farms without power,” SaskPower spokesperson Jordan Jackle commented at a power outage media scrum in Regina on Wednesday, December 5th. “The outage centre had received about 45,000 calls related to (Tuesday’s) outage. We were able to get an estimate of how many customers were impacted, we’re looking at the height of this outage at somewhere between 175 to 200 thousand customers impacted. That would be one of the biggest outages, if not the biggest outage since about 1981 when entire province went down for some time.”

The affected areas were not quite out of the dark yet, the sun needed to shine and give off some additional heat to help melt some of the packed-on hoar frost off of the lines. Customers, both residential and business, were as patient as they could be, despite the cold weather outdoors.

“We were getting calls from our major industrial customers saying ‘get (the) residential customers back up first, you can deal with us afterwards’. It really gave us the availability and the flexibility to work on getting people’s home (power) back on.”

Jackle discussed with the media, assuring that several organizations had been involved in finding solutions in a timely manner.

“This was damage

caused by frost, which started accumulating late last week with those foggy and misty conditions. We are still working to repair, permanently repair, some of the damage that we saw over the course of the last few days,” explained Jackle. “It really columnated (Tuesday) morning at 9 o’clock. We had seen a lot of damage to our infrastructure in the south east but at 9 o’clock we lost two very important transmission lines in the south east which caused the outage. The level of grid instability caused by that transmission loss is what caused our power stations Poplar River Boundary Dam and Shand to go down – they tripped off.”

“In the days leading up to (Tuesday) we actually had staff in the field responding to a number of outages across the province, a little bit more isolated though on account of that frost, so were already into the fatigued management cycle by the time (Tuesday) rolled around. And by that, I mean that SaskPower takes safety obviously very seriously, it’s number one priority when we’re dealing with a situation like this,” Jackles answered a media representative concerned about the safety of the linesmen.

“So, the way that works is we can’t have staff out that we feel are fatigued because that presents a serious safety issue for themselves and for the public. We need to assure that everyone is rested up and able to be performing out there.

In terms of staffing, it’s something we pay very close attention to, managers would be keeping a very close eye on who’s been out in the field and for how long.”

At the time of the media scrum, there had been no calculation in the way of damage cost to SaskPower or to the province.

Residential and business buildings may also see damage impact through loss of product, personal needs and electronic property.

With more than 157,000 kilometres between transmission and distribution line in the province, a lot of areas were affected during this particular weather situation. The transmission

In many areas power poles even snapped and fell to the ground. lines failed at several locations and did obtain some damage along the way. There was a structural issue that made them shut off, however, by cutting some of the shield wire off, SaskPower managed to get some of the power back on. Jackles exclaimed: “This is a unique weather situation – this frost was allowed to grow and grow and grow – the frost hasn’t had the opportunity to have the exposure to the sun.”

Arcola Daycare hosts 3rd annual open house

Arcola Daycare Inc. recently hosted their 3rd Annual Open House. This years event was Christmas themed and it was open to the community. We had many children and families who attended and came out to spread their Christmas cheer through crafts, games, hot chocolate, cookie decorating, making food for Santa’s reindeer and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. We are very grateful for our community and the surrounding communities for all their support over the years with our fundraisers. This is one way we wanted to give back. Local fiddlers perform with Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy Submitted by Morgan Robertson A group of local fiddle players, had a very special experience on Friday, December 7th. The group had the opportunity to go and play with Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy in Winkler, Manitoba as part of their “A Celtic Family Christmas” tour.

The young musicians drove to Winkler early Friday morning and performed Friday evening to a sold out show of 520 people.

The fiddle players are a part of a larger group called “Focal Point”, which includes vocals and fiddles, and is directed by Jacqueline Walbaum and Donna Turk. Members of the group reside from Redvers, Carlyle, Alameda, Estevan, Forget, Corning, Stoughton, Lampman and Carnduff and range from 12 to 17 years old.

They opened the sold out show with three numbers. It was nerve wracking but the players quickly got comfortable on stage. But that’s not all...they also played in the show finale with Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy! It was an amazing experience to be on stage playing with two of Canada’s finest fiddle players. The kids were very excited and awed at how well the show went.

They are very grateful for the experience. It’s the memory of a lifetime! MacMaster and Leahy were very welcoming and kind to the group. They took photos and signed autographs after the show.

It’s easy to say that the group finished the night with smiles on their faces and tunes flowing through their minds.

Let’s compromise on farm trucking

By Murray Mandryk Yes, the Humboldt bus crash involved was an out-of-province trucking company with a new-toCanada driver at the wheel.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, a 29-year-old Calgary, has been charged with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm for his alleged negligence in this tragedy.

Furthermore, Sukhinder Singh, the owner of Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd., was charged in October with violation of several federal and provincial safety regulations.

Sidhu had only one year of truck-driving experience and only two weeks of training at the time of the April 6th crash.

As such, Sidhu and Singh have been vilified in this tragedy, justifiably so in some cases, but less justifiably so in others.

Obviously, allegations of breaching trucking relationships are a serious problem, worsened by deadly outcome.

And by any measure now, Sidhus training behind the wheel was wholly inadequate. Yes, there has been a shortage of truck drivers across Western Canada. Its a tough job requiring long hours away from home, often, for little pay.

But all drivers must be qualified, regardless of where they from.

While some have sadly chose to make this an issue of race and immigration, this is strictly about qualifications and safety.

From here, though, it gets bit complicated.

Current qualifications for a big rig trucking license in this province is a Class 1 drivers license and air brake operation certificate.

There are no specific training requirements for training and applicants can take the test in a single day.

While Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) notes that about 90 per cent do take a professional drivers training coursed (currently the cost is in the $2,000 to $2,300 range) 10 per cent dont and its not a requirement to pass.

All this takes us to one sad and fortunate reality.

While it will be argued by many that Sidhu was inadequately trained and experienced to be driving a truck in that situation, it can also be argued that his training and qualifications were no less than many current licensed truckers in Saskatchewan, some of whom may have absolutely no training.

The government took a big step this month to rectifying that situation by requiring future truckers (as of March 15, 2019, when the new rules will be implemented) have 121.5 hours of training before testing for their Class 1 license.

However, grandfathering existing licensed truckers and exempting farm trucks from the new rules may not be helpful.

In fairness, let us be clear that the bulk of the problem is less-travel grain semi-trailers. The numbers bear this out.

SGI statistics between 2010 and 2017 show an average 1,189 collisions per year involving semitrailer units in Saskatchewan. (These are total collisions in which the semi-driver may or may not have been at fault.)

Of those, an average mere 86 collisions a year involved semi-trailers with farm plates. However, an average of 439 collisions a year in Saskatchewan involved out-of-province plated semis.

This is because there is some validity in what SGI Minister Joe Hargrave said about farm semis being mostly used at certain times of year compared with professional truckers who may be driving 365 days a year.

That said, to completely exempt anyone from any training requirement would be the other extreme. After all, its not quite like Hargrave said where farmers just operate their trucks from field to bin.

There’s the safety of everyone on rural roads to consider.

So why not a compromise? How about some minimum required training for those operating farm semis that would be something short of $8,500 full course that will be required after March 15?

We need safe Saskatchewan highways for everybody. And that means insuring everyone driving them are properly trained.

Because we need a little quiet Our oldest daughter was 3½ years old when we brought her home from Romania. It was at the beginning of December and a wreath of fresh greens greeted us at the front door--a welcome home to us and Vandana from her grandmother--and a reminder that we were heading into the Christmas season.

Since we had no idea how the transition from an orphanage Shelley Luedtke to her new home would go, we intentionally kept our Christmas plans very, very simple that year. We put up a tree, filled a large basket with childrens’ Christmas books, and we sang. A lot. Christmas songs and carols filled our home, as well as the gap in the language barrier we were working through.

Music is a big thing to me all year and perhaps even more so at Christmas. I love surrounding myself with it, particularly carols I have been singing since I was a child. Not everyone feels the same.

We are hearing again of the annoyance on the part of those who do not like being subjected to endless songs about Rudolph, angels or a winter wonderland. Some psychologists are in their corner and suggest “relentless festive tunes” can be harmful to the mental well-being of some people, especially those who work in retail and are forced to listen all day. Then comes the news that a handful of radio stations are banning the playing of certain songs citing concern over the lyrics, or even the context out of which the song came.

It frustrates me that while there is such alarm over some holiday lyrics, the same outrage isn’t expressed the rest of the year. Consider what 2018 brought us. The profanity, sexual content and slams against the police, church and government by the year’s top-selling artists is cringe-worthy. I was going to reference lyrics by a performer who is nominated for five Grammy Awards this year but even with carefully placed asterisks and symbols I simply cannot include them. They are too graphic and foul. Yet the female rapper will be the darling of the Grammy red carpet this year.

Then there are those who want to extend the ban to the songs that premiered at minstrel shows in acts that are no longer viewed culturally appropriate. Wouldn’t the list of non-seasonal songs be extensive then, too?

Not everyone likes Christmas music--I get that.

But how is it that stations cave to a minority when it comes to Christmas songs but would see my objections to what they play the rest of the year as simply the rant of a close-minded individual trying to shove my morality down their throats?

While some retailers say they won’t stop playing Christmas music despite workplace complaints and harassment suits (much like the Sheriff who has been sued multiple times for playing Christmas music but has consistently prevailed), other places are letting it be known they won’t be playing seasonal songs or pumping pine or cinnamon scents in the air. That’s fine. Great actually. As a consumer I can choose which place I want to go to. But that’s just it. It’s my choice. Just like music I might buy or stations I might listen to. Or not. And actually, right now the ‘or not’ sounds pretty appealing.

Maybe shutting down the noise for a while is something we could all use. To stop getting riled up by political rhetoric or the agenda of special interests. To stop being the pawns of digital communities. To stop being dragged into arguments that will yield little more than raised blood pressure.

That first Christmas with our new daughter, 20 years ago now, was so simple in its focus and so meaningful in its celebration, because all the other noise was kept away. On Christmas Day, just three weeks after arriving home, Vandana and her dad were playing with her new Duplo blocks and singing “Away in a Manger”. In the stillness of the previous three weeks the message of the manger came through loud and clear--and she heard it, and learned it in a language that was new to her.

We could all benefit from blocking out the noise and tuning in to some quiet. We need to take time to be silent. Amidst all the busyness? Can that be done? Yes, it can. More importantly, it needs to be done. You just might be amazed at what you hear when you allow the quiet to settle around you.

That’s my outlook.

Gordon F. Kells High School Mosaic Meal The Mosaic Meal (Potluck) will again be held on the last day before the break, Friday, December 21st.

Each student is asked to bring enough food for 5 - 6 people according to the grade’s category. The food is to be brought on the Friday, between 11:30 AM and 11:55 AM. Warming up the food at school is not possible, so please bring it ready to serve. The meal starts at noon. The categories are: Grade 7, Chinese food; Grade 8, Mexican food; Grade 9, Italian food; Grade 10, Ukrainian food; Grade 11, appetizers; Grade 12, desserts; Grade 7-12 Filipino students, Filipino food. Please remember to avoid nuts in your meal preparations. Food Bank donations have also started to come in. The class which brings in the most food items, eats first at the Mosaic Meal.

The most needed food items include: peanut butter, canned meats, canned fish, all kinds of beans, powdered or canned milk, and canned vegetables and fruits.

The Student Leadership Team has planned a fun and festive 12 Days of Christmas. Each day there will be Christmas-themed spirit days and games including an Ugly Sweater Day, Pancake Breakfast,

Wow – what a week – the Home Hardware Canada Cup Curling was on all week in Estevan starting Dec. 5 with the finals being held Dec. 9. Since this event was held in SE Saskatchewan – it was a nice drive to attend an event with high calibre curling teams and watch some excellent curling. We (Gray and Edel) attended the event on Wednesday, and again on Thursday. We really did enjoy it. I was disappointed to see the low number in attendance – there were many empty seats that one could almost pick and choose their own seat or at least find a better one if not satisfied with the one your ticket showed was yours. I do understand that not everyone likes curling, maybe that was a reason for not attending. Surely do hope that the organizers of this event will not become too disappointed and decide not to host another sporting event such as this one.

However I did notice a fair number of familiar faces in attendance. Of course if you weren’t able to attend, you could watch it on TSN – which personally I enjoy more as I can see and keep track of each and every shot. But you of course do not get the atmosphere of the curling when not in attendance in person. The final outcome was as follows – The Ladies’ event saw Team Jones defeat Team Einarson (two Manitoba teams) for First Place and The Men’s event had Team Jacobs (ON) defeat Team Koe (AB) taking First Place. Darn my teams didn’t come out on top, oh well can’t win them all. Congratulations to all the curling teams on a supper duper event.

Leonard and Lil Patton were accompanied by Lil’s brother Joe Molnar and his wife Donna (Kennedy) to attend the Canada Cup curling finals in Estevan on Dec. 9. They too commented on the low attendance.

Trevor, Sheri Patton attended their son Keagan’s hockey tournament in Bismarck over the weekend. There were 16 teams participating in this tournament. Keagan plays with the Pee Wee Oxbow Huskies and they came home with the Bronze medal. Congratulations team on a job well done.

Jason Junk and Brad McIntyre accompanied friends to Dallas Texas where they took in a hockey, a football and a basketball games.

Parry and Lynette Peet attended a Come and Go 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations in honor of her parents Kent and Myrla Holland on Dec. 7 at the

On Dec. 9 we attended the church service and Christmas party at Dannevirke – hearing the season messages and Christmas songs makes it so real and enjoyable to see and visit among friends. It is a joyous time of the year – enjoy your time with family and friends.

PureChem Cougars currently in top spot

Submitted by Nicole Currie The Cougars had an action packed weekend with hockey. It started out Friday night when they took-on the Oxbow Huskies. The rink was full with fans again as there was a guaranteed $500 50/50, thanks to Salon 206, a ticket blitz on the 2018 Wildcat Sport Side x Side and a “chuck-a-puck” for the kids.

Congrats to Joan Geiger who won the $100 gift certificate to The Office Bar & Grill donated by the PureChem Cougars and The Office Bar & Grill. Duane Bye was the lucky winner of the 50/50, Jared Valentine wins the Office Pizza and Dawson Galbreith won the “chuck-a-puck”!

The Cougars had Keegan Winkler and Emmitt Fleming as their MVP’s to skate with them before the puck dropped.

It only took a minute for the first save of the game when Oxbow had a quick shot trying to be the first team on the board. Audette denied them and then it was down to the other

end where Clayton Geiger snipes one past Tyler Meyers, getting the Cougars to chalk one up first.

The assists went to Ben Johnstone and Brandon Lequyer.

Marc Shaw scored a beauty goal at the halfway mark with assists going to Geiger and Kelly Currie. The CMP Courgar powerplay led to a 3-0 lead for Carlyle with a goal from Brett Turgeon and helpers going to Kelly Currie and Mitchell Morrison.

The scoring continued with Kelly Currie netting one 3 minutes in. Assists went to Ben Johnstone and Nathen Deck.

Oxbow got on the board shortly after with Bayda scoring from Henderson and Holt.

Johnstone rips one in at the halfway point with help from Brett Turgeon and Kelly Currie. Oxbow responded with a goal from Charles Needham. It’s a 5-2 game heading into the third.

Saturday night, the Cougars headed north to take on the Flyers. It was quite the game with each wanting nothing more than to earn the two points.

It’s not easy being a fan as everyone’s hearts were thumping and they were all praying to the hockey Gods for their team to come out on top! It’s off to a shoot-out!

It is Shaw and Johnstone for the Cougars and Riddell and Frater for the Flyers. The Flyers score and win the

game.

The Cougars got 3 points on the weekend and are currently in first place with 12 points.

Obituaries

William Glen Wiggins, 78, of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on December 2, 2018 surrounded by much of his family. He was born near Manor, SK to Art and Mona (Kyle) Wiggins and was raised on a farm without electricity or plumbing. He grew up riding his horse to Manor school, doing his share of chores, and enjoying life on the prairie. With adventure on his mind, Glen joined the RCAF at the age of 17. He worked as an Airframe Technician on a variety of aircraft and was stationed in Ottawa, Marville France, Lahr Germany, Trenton and Moose Jaw. He most enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow Air Force personnel and participated in volleyball and hockey throughout his career. The Air Force also offered him the opportunity to meet his wife of 55 years, Vicki (Eidsforth) while stationed at RCAF Uplands Ottawa.

Glen will be remembered for his wit, love of family, and his creative �lair. If he wasn’t playing with a grandchild, he’d also be tinkering in his workshop, building another model airplane, or recycling scraps to make some delightful object. Not only that, he was an excellent ping pong and foosball player who consistently left younger players dumbfounded at his skill. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley and brother Dale. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Vicki and his children Michael (Lisa) and Shirley (Kelly). Glen leaves behind eight grandchildren, Tenia (Sean), Christian (Desiree), Kylie, Ryland, Logan, Cameron, Grace and Emma. He will also be missed by his great-grandson James, his brother Ken (Chris), sister-in-law Gaye and brother-in-law Bernie (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 1:30 pm at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will of�iciate.

A private interment will be held at Rosedale Cemetery.

The Wiggins family would like to thank Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Niaz, nurses Ally, Debbie and the “Kims” at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their care and compassion during Glen’s �inal days. Congratulations to Braida LeNouail on her recent testing for her Skate Canada Gold. She finished her Gold Dance tests by completing her Viennese Waltz and Westminster Waltz. She also passed her Gold Interpretive test. She has completed all of her Skate Canada Gold tests and she is now a triple and a half Gold Level Skater.

On Nov. 6, Pastor Kevin Kay boarded a plane in Winnipeg, bound for Sao Paulo Brazil. He had made this trip before in the past few years so was prepared.

His purpose was to minister in several Free Methodist Churches and an English only interdenominational church in the downtown area. He was also in charge of distributing the little dresses the ladies in Wawota had made.

Kevin had contacted a reputable organization that supports a program that works in a large favela(slum area) in South Sao Paulo. They work with over 250 children providing meals and help them with programs that help them get out of this poor life.

Suzanne Eisler and Kevin packed a suitcase of little dresses and shorts.

Deb Phillips added a bag of crayons and other school supplies.

Kevin was able to give about 100 girls a brand new dress and 15 boys a pair of shorts.

He reports that their smiles and giggles made it all so worthwhile. As much that the clothes were needed and appreciated, it was the crayons that were the big hit! Crayons in Brazil are very expensive and

poor quality and these crayons were the very best. They will be treated with care and concern.

Kevin was thankful to all whom contributed to this mission of mercy. ( And I want to thank Kevin for his great writeup) Word has been received of the passing of Audrey Clements in Vancouver on Nov. 22. She was 93 years old and the older of Dr. Clements’ daughters.

(Virginia was the younger) Nadja Schlienger who is a school bus driver for First Student was presented with an award for her quick thinking and defensive driving last June. The Carlyle Detachment made the award recently.

Sgt. Darren Simons I was away on duty for a week. On the side of my desk I do “Peer to Peer” support and I was deployed to assist with the Coroner’s inquest into a Police involved

shooting in Battleford.

It was a rewarding week for me to help Members throughout the week.

Apparently many people have been getting text messages advising they are due a refund from SaskPower, SaskEnergy, Netflix as well as others - fraud, I say again “FRAUD” and those pesky Fraud Artists pretending to be from the Canada Revenue Agency are back at it.

Members responded to seven false alarms, two residential and five commercial, including our new fire alarm. It

does not like power outages, which seems to be a re-occurring theme in Carlyle.

We also dealt with other Mental Health and Child Welfare calls that were not related to other files.

Members responded to a complaint of illegal hunters on private property. We patrolled and located the individuals only to confirm they had permission. The original caller did not realize they were in the area.

We were happy with the result as was everyone.

We had a call from an individual who advised they were going to

be assaulted. The individual then stated upon being contacted by the Police that everything was fine. Members attended and gave this individual a ride as well as a youth to another location ensuring the safety of everyone for the evening.

Members responded to an adult assaulting a child in view of a teacher, and well, we are not going to get into whether parents can discipline their children, however, in this case it was not a “Spanking” and not trivial in nature and the adult was charged. Child Welfare was involved being anytime we deal with children we make them aware.

We are investigating a third hand threat.

Although we do not feel the threat is credible we are not willing to take a chance. This investigation is continuing.

There is also an investigation of an allegation of a theft of a bank card and subsequent theft of money. This is sibling versus sibling so the dynamics could become interesting.

Members responded to a report of a power pole arcing after the power came back on. We were not able to find the pole, however, we did make SaskPower aware.

We also had a power line down near Redvers and with the assistance of the Volunteer Fire Department and SaskPower this was dealt with.

We would like to again thank Edgy for all the work he does at the Resort. His patrols are very valuable and he has a keen eye as it relates to damage to Cabins. We had nine such incidents in a week. These are still being investigated.

Members responded to an individual that was upset another family member had picked up their child. Our investigation determined the individual that was upset was also intoxicated so, well, we were pleased that a sober responsible individual had taken the initiative.

I am not sure how we can get people to realize that we need to drive defensively. We are still dealing with some fog issues and at least one individual that was passing in the fog when unsafe. Unfortunately we were unable to locate this individual.

An individual thought they should be able to cut through the parade route at the Dickens Festival. Not only was this observed by an on duty Member, they almost hit an off duty Member. The driver was argumentative, and thought yelling at the Member would be productive. They were charged with Driving with Undue Care and Attention and this ticket carries a $280.00 fine and 4 points against their licence.

An individual was stopped for not having registration on their trailer......and given a warning for that, however, they did get the $150 ticket for not having a drivers licence and another for failing to provide a copy of the registration certificate $100. Remember our

traffic units have Automated Licence Plate Readers. The computer runs the plate of every vehicle they pass.

Another individual was found to have no Registration $580 and they were given an inspection notice for window tint, rear tail light with black film and an exhaust leak.

These Traffic Members, who are Mounties, sure are making our roads safer.

Our most expensive speeding ticket was for $208 We had one reportable collision over the last week where a vehicle needed to be towed.

We also provided tickets, warnings or inspection tickets for Stop sign violations, obstructed licence plate, holding or manipulating an electronic device, excessive damage to a windshield, using a light bar in town limits, inadequate headlamps, fail to signal, use licence plates on wrong vehicle, drive without a valid licence, fail to produce drivers licence, fail to produce registration, illegal tint, fail to have licence plates adequately secured/ visible or legible, drive with an obstructed windshield, inadequate driving lights, inadequate muffler or exhaust, inadequate fenders or mudflaps, inadequate headlamps, and insecure load.

On Nov. 29, the Redvers & District Lions Club presented a cheque in the amount of $8000.00 to the Redvers Activity Centre. The Lions have pledged to donate $2000.00 per year for the next four years to assist in the purchase of a new accessible van for the Agency. Vehicles are not funded by the Government, therefore purchases for items like these depend on donated monies such as the generous donation from the Lions Club. Currently, Redvers SARCAN is gratefully accepting donations through SARCAN’s Drop & Donate program, which affords the public the opportunity to donate their beverage containers by using the Drop & Go system. These donations will also go towards the purchase of this van. If anyone wishes to donate, they can visit any SARCAN depot and use the group phrase “RAC” at the Drop & Go terminal. The Redvers Activity Centre appreciates such donations from community groups and individuals to help improve the quality of life for the individuals.

I have 4 pairs of Blundstone Boots. I have bought 2 pairs of the steel toes one pair lasted for 4 years without blowing a stitch and 2 for casual wear. They are very light. If you need metatarsals for your workplace safety requirements they have that option. I have a very wide foot that is why I purchase Blundstone Boots. I can’t find boots that fit right. I wore my safety boots for landscaping in and therefore caused a lot of wear and tear on them. They also shine up perfect. I go to a shoe shine business in Regina and he says to me everytime I take them what color are these boots because I am hard on my boots. He slaps a new coat of die on them and shines them up like new. I wear them as my winter boots also and have good grip. I kicked around hockey rinks for 4 seasons.

Residents and visitors at Moose Mountain Lodge enjoyed music supplied by Lion Lorri Matthewson at the November birthday party hosted by Carlyle District Lions on Nov. 29.

They are popular with the high school students both in Regina and Saskatoon, and college and university students also. I know of a lot of oilfield consultants and construction workers who wear the steel toes so they don’t feel so constricted and fatigued in the lace up steel toes.
