Cougars Volleyball off to great start in Provincial host year

The G.F. Kells Cougars girls’ volleyball team had a very successful first tournament of the season Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9, earning first place at the combined Carlyle/Arcola Mega Volley Tournament. Kelly Running Observer Staff

The G.F. Kells High School girls’ volleyball team has found success in their first weekend of play earning first place in a 12-team tournament – Mega Volley – hosted by Carlyle and Arcola. The team’s success is anticipated to build this year coalescing

with the hosting of Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) Provincials set for Nov. 17-18. The Cougars went undefeated in the tournament which featured teams from Arcola, Rocanville, Radville, Midale, Ogema, Lampman, Estevan Intermediate, Weyburn Intermediate, Fillmore, Moosomin, and Kipling.

The team, coached by Trent Johnson and Amy Jackson, saw close battles with a few teams throughout the weekend, but earned first place in the final against Rocanville in two sets. Tier 2 champions were the Midale Mauraders who took on the Arcola Panthers in the final. Look to next week’s Observer for more on the Cougars hosting Provincials this November.
