Manor School students have been busy The students at Manor School have been busy recently, enjoying a number of different activities. On March 30, the students in Grades 1-6 enjoyed a virtual presentation from the Earth Rangers. Vermillion Energy sponsored the presentation for the students.

The Earth Rangers is the kids conservation organization, committed to instilling environmental knowledge, positivity and the confidence to take action among every child in Canada. Programs show children that it’s not too late to help the planet and the things they do today

will matter in the future. Students have also been studying the robotics and automation modules of the practical and applied arts course. As part of this course, students learn the basics of coding and experiment with block coding using digital software.

Information-technology consultant Grant Taylor was approached to see what technologies he could bring into the classroom to allow the students an opportunity to try them out first-hand. On his first visit, the students had an opportunity to explore with Microbits and

learn about Ozobots. Using the Microbits, the students built their own interactive devices. Spheros are programmable robots that allow students to create using coding. The students enjoyed programming their Spheros to navigate a racecourse.

Alida news - the winter storm has passed Submitted by Edel Cowan The Alida community extends condolences to the families of the Ball family on the death of their Uncle Donald Curtis, late of Reston, Man., who passed away on March 21 at the age of 96 years. He was predeceased by his wife Jennetta (Ball), son Morley and brother Ross. He is survived by his daughter Beth and two grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Reston Cemetery. The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to Ray Kyle and family on the death of his wife Donelda (nee Brown) on March 24 at the age of 69 years. She is survived by her husband Ray, sons Sheldon (Ella), Lyndon (Karmen) and four grandchildren, as well as her siblings,

Ray’s siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held April with interment at a later date. I do believe spring has sprung – most of the snow has melted away, and boy is it ever dry. Not much runoff this year and most sloughs have very little water in them or dried up. The wildlife will be short of water too. I have seen some geese flying over, but not sure if they will stick around this spring or not. Before one knows it the green grass, pussy willows, leaves and even the wildflowers will begin to peek out from their homes. It is one of the nicest times of the year. Just noticed the pussy willows are out. We have come to the end of another month and I must say that March seemed to be going out like a lion (according to the weather forecast). Although a

spring storm was predicted to be here for a couple of days, I didn’t really want a storm, but what can we do? However, I guess one really shouldn’t complain about a little snow and wind as we have had a very nice winter. I don’t like that wind and I would have preferred that we receive some

rain, which is very much needed. Hopefully next time the moisture will be in the form of rain. When this comes out in print it will be the first weekend in April – a long weekend, which will turn into spring break for students and staff. Enjoy your holidays everyone. Hopefully no one had an April

Fool’s trick played on them. And a Happy Easter to everyone. Please remember folks to keep me posted whenever you have news – simply contact me anytime. Either call me at 306-443-2496, text 306-485-8561 or e-mail g.cowan@sasktel.net on the happenings that are going on in and around

Alida as well as within your own family circle. I will see that your news gets into a paper. As we keep moving slowly forward do continue to keep a safe distance and wear your mask and stay safe. I do appreciate all your input as it does help keep this column interesting.
