Chief Pasap explains why casino should open

By Laura Kish Bear Claw Casino, along with all other casinos across the province, remains closed.

White Bear First Nation Chief Nathan Pasap has written to the provincial government with the hope of setting up a meeting to discuss the return plan for casinos.

Pasap said restaurants and bars are open with access to VLTs, so he doesn’t see why casinos can’t do the same.

“There are a lot of employees that are affected by this….anywhere from 1,500 to 1,600 employees for all of Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority,” Pasap explains. “So that’s a lot of households that are affected.”

“There are 60 employees laid off from Bear Claw Casino alone and we have to get people back working and it has to happen sooner than later,” says Pasap.

“Some of the ben-

efits are starting to run out for the employees of the casino,” says Pasap. “Over the last fiscal year they came back to work committedly and then obviously we had the second wave and they were furloughed again. We need to see them getting back to work. Maybe not all of them at once but slowly phase it in.”

Where casino employees were eligible, they took advantage of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit and employment insurance benefits just like anyone else who was out of work due to COVID-19.

“When you’re on a reduced wage it’s just hard to make a go of it. EI benefits are only a portion of what your wage was but the expenses are still the same amount. So there’s a lot of pressure there,” explains Pasap.

“It’s not only that but it’s the mental health side of things,” says Pasap. “There’s that aspect of it as well.

It takes a toll on home life and if you have a family having to home school as well that’s also a challenge.”

Bear Claw Casino was open very briefly up until Dec. 19. They had a very limited capacity in regards to operations. Nothing is open at the moment at Bear Claw, including the casino, restaurant and the hotel.

Pasap says they would take great measures as a corporation to build barriers for social distancing, space the machines safely and build barriers between machines.

To enter the casino you must get your players card and that will track when you come in and when you leave. You will have a temperature check as well. They also supply masks, gloves and hand sanitizer.

Empowerment drives World Down Syndrome Day

By Deb Andrew Cuddles, smiles, laughter, tears and struggles are some common experiences of parents as their children grow into adulthood.

Kellie Anderson shared some of those experiences regarding her three children whom she loves deeply. World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 gave this opportunity for Kellie to describe those specifically with regard to her daughter, Raina, a beautiful, lively, smart little seven-year-old girl.

Kellie’s journey landed her in Carlyle in 1997 where she has lived, worked, raised her family and built great friendships.

Although her husband has worked in the oilfield and on pipelines far from home, he was her rock when Raina was born and all through the process of learning how to parent a child having Down syndrome.

“At first I was afraid and grieving,” Kellie said. “I didn’t know how I would care for her and the doctors just give you all the bad news. They focus on all the problems you will face for the rest of your child’s life.”

At first, Kellie felt overwhelmed, but she said, “If I could go back and chose to have a child without a disability, I wouldn’t do it.”

responds to the third month for the third chromosome and the 21st day is for the 21st pair of chromosomes.

Even though people with Down syndrome may look and act similar, each person is at a different spot on the range of severity of symptoms.

Just like those without Down syndrome, they also have their own wonderful personalities. Anderson will tell you, “Raina loves school, loves people her own age

and loves routine but she is a little jokester.

She will always try to make you laugh.”

Presently, Raina is in Justine Kyle’s Grade 2 class and Yvonne Loustel is her educational assistant.

“She is amazing!”

Kellie exclaimed. “I am so grateful for her and Raina loves her. She has been with Raina since she was three years old in the playschool program.”

One thing that is crucial for special needs children, and Raina in particular, is to have consistency and routine.

Research shows that when students are attached to the individuals teaching them, they learn at an increased rate than if there is no relationship.

Raina is considered remarkably high functioning except for her speech. She uses American sign language, the Pex Program and just trying to speak her words as she learns every child’s basic skills.

She knows and can say all the letters of the alphabet, the colours and is working on numbers one to 10. She knows the first seven.

“The Saskatchewan Down Syndrome Society has been my saving grace,” Kellie explained.

People and resources have been available to help Raina and her family in so many ways.

Although living in a city seems to have many more opportunities for programs for Down syndrome individuals, Kellie would not change things at all.

“Carlyle is the most amazing community to raise a family, and everyone here treats Raina like any other child, with smiles, care, inclusion and friendship.”

As with most parents wanting the best for their children, Kellie explained how she will advocate for Raina as she grows and learns through the school system and into adulthood.

“There seemed to be so much support available before school and once you are in the school system, you work within those guidelines.

I will fight for Yvonne to work with Raina all

through her school years to build on that great relationship and give foundation to her learning,” Kellie said.

Anyone who has ever known a Down syndrome individual knows the precious power of that relationship in their own personal growth as a human being. Slowing down, seeing beauty in things, hugging, singing, dancing and love, oh the love experienced in those relationships is truly beyond what words can describe.

With a smile and a sigh, Kellie ended the interview with these words, “I would never wish that Raina had been born without her disability. I have grown as a mother, as an adult and as a human. She is teaching me and for that I am truly blessed.”

PIC expanding their operation near Carlyle

By Laura Kish It is Pig Improvement Company’s (PIC) aim to continue to grow their genetic population in southeast Saskatchewan, thus they are building a genetic nucleus operation in the Carlyle area.

The farm will consist of three sites: farrow through full test, export facility and truck wash.

“Work started last week on Site 1 which is situated approximately 15 kms southeast of Carlyle,” explains Abdoul Teuw, supply chain specialist, who has been employed with PIC for a total of 12 years at the Kipling location. “We’re moving the topsoil and started digging one of the barns on Monday.”

Site 2 will be located four kilometres west of Carlyle.

“Site 3 will be the private truck wash located right in Carlyle, close to the current carwash,” explains Teuw.

“This truck wash will be used strictly to rewash trucks for PIC so the trucks aren't carrying any disease prior to loading the pigs.”

Teuw says the plan is to have the barns ready for use by next winter, so hopefully by the end of January or mid-February 2022.

PIC was founded in 1962 by five English Farmers in Oxfordshire, England. Today, PIC and its employees are still realizing the founders’ dream. Moe aims to confine lockdown to Regina

By Murray Mandryk Regina is now under a COVID-19 lockdown, not unlike the one the entire province was experiencing a year ago.

It is something Premier Scott Moe vowed he would never do – a commitment he made just days before the October vote when daily cases in the province were in the single digits and there had only been a total of 25 deaths.

But rather that condemn the move – unpopular with those running businesses or within his political base, regardless of where in the province they live – Moe should be credited for making the tough decision.

Unfortunately, new variants hammering Regina made this a decision he had to make.

In fact, the day Moe announced the strict new lockdown, the capital city was accounting for 763 of the 891 new variants cases in the province.

That day, Regina was also accounting for 91 of the 150 new cases in the province, and 755 of the province’s 1,422 active cases.

It was a grim and uncomfortable admission for Moe to make — especially given the hope that mass vaccinations would allow Saskatchewan to get through the waning days of this pandemic.

Unfortunately, the reality for Regina is a growing fear of running out of ICU beds from the new variants’ fast-paced spread.

Some of Moe’s tough new measures are things the province hasn’t seen in a year – the closing of indoor dining at restaurants and bars except for takeout orders, restricting households to their immediate residents with no visitors and limiting outdoor gatherings to no more than 10 people.

Theatres, bowling alleys, arcades, museums and libraries that had been reopened in Regina were ordered closed.

And religious services in Regina are capped at 30 people until April 6, meaning that traditional Easter services would again be severely limited.

Moe even went one step further in at least one area — recommending that Reginans only travel for essential reasons. The stay-at-home recommendation was even extended to the neighbouring communities.

Given that Moe has shown he’s not exactly inclined to give in to the wishes of the NDP opposition or some public health critics who were clamouring for such a measure, this very likely was a last resort.

The premier said he was following the advice of the province’s chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab.

So the question for many worried people elsewhere in the province is a simple one: who might be next to face a lockdown?

Well, the good news — at least hopefully — is that it may be no one.

Let is be clear that Moe’s unpopular measures may need to be applied elsewhere. At this point, we really don’t know.

Those tracking variants now see numbers in south central and southeast Saskatchewan that were similar to Regina’s numbers a week or two ago. This only heightens the fear that new variants could spread from Regina to not only these areas but virtually every area in the province.

But here is the good news: while the spread within the city has been dramatic, we are still only talking about a Regina outbreak.

There are those who argue Moe could have and should have acted faster, but by acting now, it might be possible that the outbreak will be confined to Regina.

That surely is the hope.

Shelley Luedtke I was listening to a speaker known for peppering her presentations with generous doses of humor.

But she wasn’t laughing as she shared the experience of a painful breakup – not with a romantic partner – but with her best friend.

She said it happened so unexpectedly after she responded to something that had been posted online. Before she could even ask what the problem was, the unravelling began.

She is by no means alone. Friendships seem prone to a degree of fragility unlike ever before. It goes beyond the changes that come with moving away or life transitions.

These are breakups that occur out of worry over what some nameless, faceless keyboard warriors might say.

My family moved to a new town when I

Friendships have always been prone to breakage but what has changed is how quickly they are dissolving and how people are finding out it’s over. A therapist who now specializes in digital estrangement felt devastated when a three-decade friendship came to an end through an email. Another was shocked to be unfriended by her best friend and then saw a group text asking mutual friends to ghost her.

A woman who maintained a best friendship with her college roommate was stunned when biting criticisms of her small business, her parenting, and even her wardrobe were posted by someone she thought was a trusted friend.

Painful… because so much becomes so public.

We would do well to refrain from litigating friendships online and re-engage living them in real time. The barometer of our friends shouldn’t be likes and clicks, but rather love and care. If you have that, treasure it. It’s worth far more than consensus of the crowd. That’s my outlook.

It’s the reason the speaker’s friend called it quits. A conversation might have remedied things, but the former friend wasn’t interested in fixing, just distancing.

A study of more than 500 friendships that have broken up in a similar manner found that the posting of potentially polarizing comments led to the severing. It seems that the approval of the masses outweighed the friendship of the two.

I lost my best friend in high school when I became concerned with what others might think.

I got her back again. Sort of. On a day I couldn’t have planned or predicted she asked if we could talk. We got everything out in the open. It was so good, but also very hard.

As much as I emerged with a new understanding of what was going on, it also confirmed that we were in very different places. We realized that while our friendship wouldn’t be the same, there was a connection that mattered to us both.

A few months later I sang at her wedding.

A few months after that she was at our door when she heard my father had died suddenly.

We’d had a difficult, yet necessary conversation that allowed us to move

She and I had a friendship that was absolutely in sync. Until it wasn’t.

Her life began moving in a direction I wasn’t involved in — and didn’t understand.

Rumors swirled around her. I did nothing to stop them. I was too concerned about what others were thinking. We became people who had little to say to one another.

We understand breakups. At least the ones of the romantic variety. But the ending of a tight friendship is tough because it’s something we don’t talk a lot about.

We have an expectation that friendships should last, but they are breaking down with increasing frequency right now.

Analysts who study friendship suggest a lot of factors are at play: political divides that can’t be broached, duelling viewpoints in dealing with the pandemic, and a potential reset of those we want in our lives.

Driving that last factor is a perceived need to distance ourselves from anyone who may have anything in their background that could be considered cultural or political quicksand.

Facebook auction to support Mason Wigley now has more than 100 items donated; fundraiser starts March 30 Items are needed for an online Facebook auction that will be happening to support Mason Wigley, a young man from southeast Saskatchewan who has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma.

On Feb. 4, Mason, the 21-year-old son of Dean and Christie Wigley of Estevan, had surgery to remove what was thought to be a benign cyst from the side of his neck. The surgeon informed the family and Mason it didn't look like a cyst once they started the surgery. A 45-minute operation soon extended to two hours and 45 minutes.

On Feb. 19, Mason was informed he had diffuse B-Cell lymphoma.

Within a few short weeks, Mason and his family have made four trips to Regina and one trip to Saskatoon. He had a number of different tests, including a pet scan and bone marrow tap. His first round of chemotherapy was March 10.

Mason and his family lived in Carnduff for a few years, where his dad worked for local trucking companies, while Christie worked in the lounge of the Royal Canadian Legion.

He and his brother attended the Carnduff Education Complex.

This past year Dean and Christie started their new venture. With the crash of the oil patch, they ventured into the food truck industry, creating

Elephant Ear Emporium, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's been a tough year for the family, so a few of their friends have decided to put together an online auction to try to help offset some of the expenses they will see in their future.

More than 100 items have already been donated, with donations coming from individuals, businesses and more. If you would like to donate anything for this auction, please contact Chris Jones at 306-482-8212 or Kayla Petterson at 306-4219181, or message them on Facebook with your items and a picture for donations.

Most of the items are now on display at the mall, in the old

Simons Jewellers store. They will stay there until after the auction and then people can pick them up there.

All auction items will be paid via e-transfer.

The auction will start on March 30 and run for 48 hours.

More info will be posted on the auction’s Facebook page just prior to the fundraiser starting.

The deadline to submit an item is March 29.

Cash donations can now be accepted. E-transfers can be sent to masonsfundraiser@ outlook.com and they will be automatically deposited into the trust account that has been set up. Alternatively, you can go to the Bank of Montreal in Estevan and inform the teller

Rutten is looking forward to finally seeing the campus and meeting her teammates and coaches; these steps will only be the beginning of her exciting journey as a college athlete.

- Home Improvement How to add shade to a deck or patio Homeowners eagerly await the arrival of the warm weather so they can cast off the remnants of cabin fever and bask in the sunshine. However, as summer nears its dog days, the same sun homeowners once coveted can contribute to uncomfortable conditions in outdoor entertaining spaces.

Meteorologists at took to their neighborhoods in July 2020 to test just how hot surfaces can get in the sun during peak daytime temperatures. Concrete sitting in the sun almost all day reached a temperature of 134.7 F, while the same concrete in the shade clocked in at just under 80 F. When air temperatures are around 90 F, unshaded concrete and asphalt can be 125 F and 140 F, respectively. While wood decking may not be as hot as asphalt and concrete, it still can get steamy underfoot.

Homeowners who want to be able to enjoy their outdoor spaces in an array of temperatures

can think about investing in shade solutions.

Sun-blocking ideas like awnings, shade trees and large umbrellas can help people enjoy their yards all day long.

• Canopy: A patio canopy is typically a freestanding unit that can be installed over a patio or a deck. Some people prefer to bolt it down so it will not be knocked over in windy conditions. The fabric on the canopy can be removed during the offseason, helping to improve its longevity.

• Awning: Awnings may be stationary or

retractable. Many are installed directly onto a home and can cast shade on specific areas of outdoor entertaining spaces.

• Shade sail: Similar to an awning but a bit less structurally rigid, shade sails are large pieces of triangular fabric installed over areas of a patio, pool or landscape, according to The Family Handyman.

Shade sails are light and airy and can be customized.

• Trees: A natural way to increase shade in a yard is to plant more shade trees. If sun

glare is an issue all year long, and it’s not just the heat of the sun that is troublesome, think about planting evergreen trees. Deciduous cousins will drop their leaves in fall and only be effective during the warm weather.

• Patio umbrellas: Many umbrellas start at around $25. Umbrellas can be paired with patio tables, while stationary cantilever umbrellas sit out of the way on their own heavy-duty stands.

A cantilever umbrella tends to provide more shade than patio table umbrellas.

• Curtains: Homeowners can block sunlight outdoors the way they do inside, offers MSN. Hang curtains from the sides of canopies or between posts on

a deck to provide shade and cozy spaces.

Shade is in high demand when the sun is hot. Options abound for making outdoor areas more comfortable.

- Home Improvement Should I DIY?: Determine if it’s best to renovate on your own A do-it-yourself mentality has taken hold in millions of households across the globe. Popular television channels like HGTV and DIY Network as well as accessible home improvement content on apps like YouTube has inspired many homeowners to tackle renovation projects around

their homes. Taking such initiative is admirable, though it also can prove costly if homeowners end up biting off more than they can chew.

Those skills can ensure projects are completed quickly and correctly. Labor may seem costly, but such costs may ultimately prove to be a bargain compared to the cost of fixing DIY mistakes. Projects that are minor in scope and don’t require the use of potentially costly specialty tools may be better suited for weekend warriors than more complicated renovations.

2. Do I have the time?

Homeowners must determine how much time they have to complete a project before deciding to do it themselves. No one wants to spend months staring at an unfinished renovation project.

Homeowners who are already pressed for time may not be able to complete projects in a timely fashion, which can make homes less comfortable and even less safe.

3. Can I pull this off?

DIY projects can instill homeowners with a sense of pride in their homes, but it’s imperative that homeowners considering the DIY option conduct an honest assessment of their skills.

A lack of renovation experience does not neces-

sarily mean a homeowner cannot successfully complete a DIY project. But in such instances, it may be best to start with small, straightforward projects and then gradually move up to bigger, more complicated projects as skills are fine tuned. And homeowners who have never been at their best with a hammer in hand should not be ashamed to leave the work to the professionals.

Clear pathways, remove window treatments and disconnect window alarm systems. Plan for one to two days of installation. Keep pets and children away from work areas.

Cargill purchases southeast company Precision Ag Following a successful 22-year joint venture, Cargill has announced it will purchase southeast Saskatchewan crop inputs retailer Precision Ag in a move that deepens its commitment to farm-

ers in the region.

The business will continue to operate as Precision Ag, based in Griffin, and according to a news release, there will be no changes for Precision’s 23 employees or at

its four locations in Griffin, Carlyle, Carnduff and Odessa. Precision Ag’s leadership team will stay in their current roles for the next three years to ensure a seamless transition of the business.

“As we thought about our most strategic succession plan, we quickly agreed that selling to Cargill was the best decision given our shared values and interest in providing quality crop input services to farmers throughout Western Canada,” said Precision Ag general manager Jay Gerry.

Word has been received of the passing of Dale Desjarlais of Saskatoon. He passed away March 7 at the age of 72 years. He was the husband of Lynda Filteau, daughter of Ed and Laura Filteau. They were former residents and business owners in Wawota.

Sympathy also to Cameron Skulmoski and Rae Lamontagne and family and friends on the passing of Cameron's grandmother, Marion Hoff.

Marion passed away on March 13 at the age of 93 years. She is from Redvers but recently been a resident of Deer View Lodge in Wawota.

She was the widow of Ted Hoff and a mother to Pam (Ron) Gettling, Ward (Jan) Hoff, Tracey (Glenn) Astren ,Richard(Diana) Hoff and Melanie (Mark) Houston. A funeral service will be held at a later date.

Sympathy also goes out to Clarence and Carol Westphal on the passing of Clarence's sister, Colleen Gates of Winnipeg. She passed away on March 14 at the age of 60 years.

She is the widow of Rick Gates and is survived by her family, Paul, Scott (Kerri), Sandy (Vince) and Melissa (Roger) and their families. A funeral will be planned at a future date.

These families who have lost loved ones are mourning the lost but are thankful to have had them in their lives.

Alida news - keeping busy at the library Submitted by Edel Cowan The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to all the Hubbard families on the death of Florence Hubbard at the Redvers Health Centre on March 14 at the age of 96 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, parents, seven brothers and four sisters, her in-laws, three brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Florence is survived by her six children, their spouses and families

– Elda (Bill) Duffus, Bob (Deb) Hubbard, Bill (Sharon) Hubbard, Allan (Charlene) Hubbard, Bonnie (Robert) Bevan and Laurie Hubbard (Blake Stovin). A private family graveside service was held at the Carnduff Cemetery.

The Alida community also extends sincere sympathy to the Shier families on the death of Art Shier at Carnduff’s Sunset Haven on March 17 at the age of 90. Art was predeceased by his wife Isabel and other family members. He is survived by his three daughters Inez (Doug) Powley, Corrine (Tim)

Spithakis, Jo-Ann (Mike) Walter and four grandchildren, his brother Steward (Lorraine) Shier, sisters-inlaw Margaret Shier and Shirley Bendtsen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held at the Oxbow Cemetery.

Been keeping busy at the library here in town these last few days, and likely for many days to come, trying to get things cleaned up as much changing will be happening as time goes by. We will be trying to get rid of some books (novels, paperbacks,

non-fiction, etc.). If interested please contact Eleanor Harrison or myself and we will make some arrangements.

We received our first vaccination on March 19 and it’s so comforting to know that this stage is well underway now and maybe in another month one will be able to move about so much easier while feeling safer in doing so.

It is now officially spring, and it is so nice to be able to feel the much welcomed warmth that comes with this season. Before one realizes it we’ll

be seeing the green grass, trees leafing out, pussy willows and wild flowers coming to life.

Birds are arriving again and newborn calves are so nice to see out in the pastures as they romp about. Actually in another week it will be Easter – another sure sign that it is spring.

Hopefully we will also receive some much need rain to help wash the last of the winter away and bring on more new spring life.

It is very dry, so please be careful when you are out cleaning up the yard, fields etc.

Don’t burn if it’s not necessary.

Marion Hoff, formerly of Redvers, Sask., passed away at Deer View Lodge, Wawota, Sask. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the age of 93.

Marion (Bongfelt) was born in Winnipeg Man. on Jan 4,1928. She moved around Northern Ontario growing up, as her Dad was a trainman. When she left High School, she went to Nursing school in Winnipeg at St. Boniface Hospital. While growing up, her cousins and friends had a nickname for her, also Mom’s nursing school friends were known to affectionately call her “Bing-Bong”, and the mention of this name would bring a smile to her face for years to come. She remained friends with these pals and would get together with them whenever possible. Mom started her nursing career in Meadow Lake, Sask. in 1951. She nursed at a few different hospitals, finally ending up in Redvers, where she met and married Ted Hoff in 1954 and they were together until his death in 1996. They had six children together. Mom had a deep interest in books and reading and loved all of the farm animals and pets. Mom was an avid supporter of the church and other charities. Every year Mom would faithfully prepare “shoebox” gifts that were sent to children in need around the world. Mom continued to nurse until 1996. In her retirement years, she enjoyed working in her yard and puttering around on different projects, as well as being able to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom moved into Deer View Lodge in November of 2017 and was there until she finally got her wings that she had hoped for.

Marion was predeceased by her husband Ted Hoff and oldest daughter Marlys Kamp. She is survived by her remaining children: Pam (Ron) Gettling, Ward (Jan) Hoff, Tracy (Glenn) Astren, Richard (Dianna) Hoff and Melanie (Mark) Houston; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mom will be greatly, and sadly missed by everyone that knew her.

Love you lots Miss you more.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life is being planned for the summertime. Details will be announced at a later date when the plans are finalized.

It is with deep sadness that the family of Joyce Minnie Ellen Folkerts (nee Harrison), announce her passing at Masterpiece River Ridge in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 13th, 2021, at the age of 81, due to Parkinson’s.

Joyce was born in Dubuc, SK, attended Lebel Country School and was raised on her parent’s farm in Alida, SK. Mom’s passions were her 3 daughters, 3 grand daughters & 3 great grandchildren. Mom loved spending time with her family & entertaining friends.

You would be sure to have the best home cooked meal at Joyce’s table! As a beautiful, young woman, Mom worked at the bank in Carnduff, SK. This is where Joyce met the love of her life, Gary William Henry Folkerts. Upon their first meeting in the bank one day, Gary said to his friend; “I’m going to marry that girl!” and so he did, on Sept. 27,1958 & together raised their daughters in Stoughton, Lang, Ogema, Redcliff & finally Medicine Hat. Mom will be so missed and lovingly remembered in the hearts of her Daughters; Tammy Herman, Shelley (Rick) Belau, & Taralyn Manary; Grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Schwab, Jacey Belau, Lindsey (James) O’Donnell; Great Grandchildren, Seth & Madelyn Schwab & Landon Gary O’Donnell; Sister In-Law, Eleanor Harrison; Nieces & Nephews. Joyce was pre-deceased by her husband Gary in 2016; her parents, Tom & Gladys Harrison; her brother, Elgin Harrison; In-Laws, Gerhard & Tillie Folkerts; her brother & sister in-law, Delmar & Dolores Hoogeveen.

School divisions release calendar for 2021-22 school year The boards of education for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division and the South East Cornerstone Public School Division have approved the 2021-22 school year calendar, which will be used by both divisions.

The first day of classes is slated for Sept. 1, which would be before

the Labour Day long weekend.

Educators and administrators will begin work as early as Aug. 25 as they prepare classrooms and formulate plans to again offer inschool lessons.

In a press release, the Cornerstone division said that since Labour Day is Sept. 6, the

provincial government has provided school divisions the direction that students may start as early as Sept. 1.

The last day of classes before the Christmas break is Dec. 17. Christmas holidays will run from Dec. 20-31, and the first day back will be Jan. 3.

NOTICE OF PREPARATION OF ASSESSMENT ROLL

Rural Municipality of Wawken No. 93 Notice is hereby given that the assessment roll of the Rural Municipality of Wawken No. 93 for the year 2021 has been prepared and is open to inspection at the office of the assessor from March 26th to May 26th, 2021. 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A Bylaw pursuant to section 214 of The Municipalities Act has been passed and the assessment notices have been sent as required.

Any person who wishes to appeal against their assessment is required to file their notice of appeal, accompanied by a $20 appeal fee for each assessment being appealed, which will be returned if the appeal is successful, with: The Assessor, R.M. of Wawken No. 93, Box 90, Wawota, SK S0G5A0, by Wednesday, May 26th, 2021.
