The Virden Community Chamber of Commerce (VCCC) presents the RCMP Musical Ride, Thursday, July 14 at the Agricultural Society Fairgrounds. This will be their first time in Virden since 1978. This event will bring in people from all across Westman and parts of Eastern Saskatchewan. In a press release VCCC explained, “The Musical Ride is performed in each province once every four years, so we are truly honoured to have been chosen as one of the few locations
in Manitoba to host the ride this year.” The RCMP Musical Ride started in 1876 by members of the NorthWest Mounted Police to display their riding ability and entertain the local community. This unique colourful Canadian tradition consists of 32 horses, and riders performing various cavalry drills choreographed to music – enjoyed by thousands of people each year. Along with the Musical Ride there will also be other entertainment; inflatable bouncers for the kids, face-painting, live entertainment, souvenirs, 50/50 draw, and meet and greet with the
horses and riders following the show. The special live entertainment for the evening is local artist Kendra Kay, 2015 MCMA Female Artist of the Year. “This is my first time doing a full band show in Virden. I have played by myself in Virden in the past, but I am looking forward to finally gettting to have the full band behind me for everyone to see,” Kay explained, “I am always excited to get to perform, but in front of a local crowd makes it even better! It’s a pretty special feeling to have your biggest supports, friends and family cheering you on and I can’t wait!”
