Despite the warm early morning temperatures on Saturday, July 27, walkers gathered to show their support and raise money to end ALS. The Carlyle Sports Arena held tables loaded with prizes for the raffle and silent auction, t-shirts for those walking, and a registration table loaded with breakfast snack items.

Outside a large tent erected by the Rapid Relief Team sat in front of the state-of-the-art kitchen trailer, where volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in Oxbow prepared for lunch. The

Walk to end ALS RRT consisted of 30 volunteers, who stepped up and ran raffle ticket sales, registration tables, water stations, manned the BBQ cooking burgers and hotdogs and assisted in any way they could.

Deb Fischer, one of the organisers of the event, said they were contacted by the RRT group earlier this year and were grateful for both the help and the peace of mind having all of the positions filled without having to beat the bushes for volunteers.

east on Mountain Avenue to 1st Street West.

Once at Coteau Avenue they turned east walking to Main Street, following the route south to the first water station at Carlyle Avenue.

The next water station at 4th Street East marked the option to turn south and add an extra kilometre by following the walking path, or north to the corner of Souris Avenue. From that water station, participants walked west to the top of 2nd Street West where the final water station was located. From there it was a short leg south to the rink, where lunch awaited.

All the money donated for lunch went straight into the fundraiser, thanks to the generosity of the RRT, who donated all the food and drinks. For $5.00 you could press a plate of whipped cream into the face of your favourite firefighter or ALS volunteer. It was sweet for both the pie-er or the pie-ee.

Total funds raised have not been tabulated as of yet, but will be announced when received.

NDP plight long in the making

By Murray Mandryk That the Saskatchewan NDP is struggling outside the major cities is no secret.

This has been the plight of the NDP for decades now, a problem that can hardly be laid at the feet of relatively new leader Ryan Meili.

Much has been made of Meili being too far left or having difficult connecting with mainstream Saskatchewan folks.

While both may be true, the simple reality is that this is hardly a problem of Meili’s making. This is a problem that’s been brewing in NDP ranks for decades.

My old pal Dale Eisler _ a former columnist for the Leader-Post and StarPhoenix who occupied this very space _ likely put it best when it comes to how and when this problem developed for the NDP. Eisler said the problem for NDP in Saskatchewan, and especially rural Saskatchewan _ began more than 40 years ago when the then Allan Blakeney government was trying to preserve the small family farm, even as economics suggested it was increasingly becoming a thing of the past.

While farmers were struggling to remain competitive in the growing free market agriculture economy, the 1970s NDP government was putting up impediments by imposing inland terminals that would compete with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool or by making it difficult for farmers to own tandem axle trucks to move higher volumes of grain.

In the 1982 provincial election that swept Grant Devine’s Progressive Conservatives to power, there was a resounding rejection of this NDP view.

“In that election, a sense of a new rural Saskatchewan was beginning to emerge,” Eisler said of the 1982 campaign Blakeney fought on keeping the Crownest Rate.

“The NDP were left the dark in rural Saskatchewan and have pretty much remained there since.”

For this, one surely can’t blame the young Meili.

This was a problem of his predecessors who could not find a way to connect with agriculture or many of the other raw commodity economic drivers in this province.

That the NDP managed to get 16 more years in power in Saskatchewan in the wake of the incompetence and corruption that went on in the 1980s PC government may prove to be a historical anomaly that only delayed the inevitable.

But while it’s impossible to blame Meili for all elements of the current plight of the NDP, what is a little harder to comprehend is how far the NDP under Meili may now from providing a serious challenge to the Saskatchewan Party government.

While it could be argued the Sask. Party was somewhat in trouble after the 2017 budget that shuttered the Saskatchewan Transportation Company and raised the provincial sales tax, it appears the governing party has rebounded under Scott Moe and the now balanced budget he has presented.

Clearly, Moe’s hammering away against the federal carbon tax has hit the right notes.

However, what’s puzzling is why the current NDP would not struggling as much as it seems to be everywhere, especially in urban Saskatchewan where the NDP has always been stronger. This would suggest suggests Meili’s connection problem runs deep.

Internal NDP polls this spring suggest the party is about where it was in after the 2015 election when it captured a dozen seats.

Of course, it’s early and things may change.

The NDP aren’t saying what the overall numbers are and argue that they are doing very well in public opinion when it comes to critical issues like health care.

Given that the Sask. Party government of late has been attempting to address several issues related to health care and addictions and mental health, there is evidence to suggest this may true.

But there also seems ample evidence that Meili has inherited the NDP’s long-term problem.

Putting the ‘us’ in genero’us He was described as a humble man who lived simply. A friend said he had two types of clothes; work jeans and church jeans, and was a “lunch pail kind of guy.” So when he died 15 years ago no one could have guessed he had almost $3 million in the bank.

Iowan Dale Schroeder grew up poor and never had the opportunity to go to college, so before he died he put a plan toShelley Luedtke gether to put kids from small town Iowa on the postsecondary path. The 33 strangers who were the beneficiaries of his generosity got together in July to honor the man they never met but who opened doors for them they never could have imagined.

In elementary school I had a friend named Siri.

She was younger than me but our families spent a fair amount of time together. One day Siri was in a store with her parents when she spotted a doll she wanted. Her parents told her if she saved up her money she could probably buy the doll.

After several months Siri had enough to make the purchase, but she never bought the doll. When she emptied the jar containing her savings she presented the money to her parents and asked that they send it to help children who didn’t have any dolls at all. Siri didn’t tell us what she had done. She was never prideful about it. I only found out though a conversation with my parents some time later.

Many memories could come to mind when I think of our years of friendship, but this is often the one that does. Despite all we shared, this generous act, in which I wasn’t a part, stands out.

My little girls were with me when I was paying for parking at the airport several years ago and realized I didn’t have enough cash. As I frantically searched for loose coins in my purse an older couple standing near the kiosk asked if they could help. I assured them I would just start over and use my

debit card instead but they insisted on offering cash to make up the difference. I got my receipt, thanked the couple, and as we made our way out of the airport my 6-year old remarked how nice the people were and added, “It was something just like daddy would do.” And she was right.

Analysts warn about a worrying trend. Giving is down; not only in terms of dollars, but time as well.

This is further amplified by the concern that subsequent generations don’t seem to be as charitable as the one that proceeded it, so we wonder what the landscape will look like for charities or faith-based organizations or any fundraising activities that rely on giving.

We often say kids learn what they live. The same is most certainly true of adults as well. The more consistently we witness generosity, on any scale, the more likely we are to be generous as well.

There’s a cyclical effect that causes ripples of all sizes to spread in the most unlikely of places…or people. Dale never met the kids who went to college thanks to his frugal living and generous giving, but they all most certainly have an example to emulate.

Just imagine the spin-off from those 33 individuals.

Most of us have people who taught us the value of giving. Not the ones who are the loudest about it or who donate the biggest amounts, but the ones who quietly go about living a life that is motivated by a generous spirit. One that can be demonstrated by the youngest of children or the oldest of adults anywhere from department stores to college campuses to airport kiosks.

Whether it is a mom or dad, friend, neighbor or even a stranger, examples of generosity are happening all around us. The amounts are less important than the attitude, since an act of generosity causes more of a wave than we realize. Maybe we could take a moment and think about the people who have been a Dale in our lives, and then determine how we can be a Dale for someone else in turn.

That’s my outlook.

Weekly RCMP report Submitted by Staff Sgt. Darren Simons • We had our share of 911 misdials or hangups and false alarms. Although these do not take up a lot of time they do take up some time and take us away from other matters.

• Members were also occupied with Mental Health calls and Child Welfare calls. Often this is not a Policing matter, however, they often become Police matters. If nobody else will do anything we often do.

• We had several intoxicated individuals pointing fingers at each other in the presence of the RCMP. Each alleged the other did something, allegedly did something or, well they were intoxicated.

One individual was arrested and charged for assault.

• Members responded to a fight, which was not a fight, rather allegations that someone was hiding in the bushes and they were going to attack them. Although we did not find anyone, we must admit we did not go looking in the bushes.

No arrests, no prisoners, too much alcohol.

• An individual found out that if they are released and choose not to comply with their conditions they will be arrested. Sooner or later we catch them all. Funny related story. This individual is known as a repeat customer. On a previous occasion they fled from the Police and ran over a snowbank.

Well let us just say with all our gear we are not light and the Police Officer plowed through the snowbank. The individual was caught due to the determination of our local law enforcement on that occasion as well.

• The hotel in Antler was broken into. The till had been taken and the ATM smashed open.

Our Forensic Identification Section is assisting with this investigation.

• We had a break and enter reported...... wait for it, before it happened. Apparently an individual was bragging they were going to do it on a social media. Long and the short of it is it did not happen.

• So one parent is upset because they have full custody of the children and the other parent has the kids and won’t bring them back.

So the Police made a call and the kids were returned. If that was the

end of the story it would not be worth reporting.

What was missed is the one parent took the kids because the Police called asking them to being the first parent was spending some time with us.

We don’t make this stuff up.

• A youth was on conditions that the youth chose not to comply with. Patrols were made and the youth was located by an off duty Member of the RCMP who happened to be walking his dog. The accused sure did not like the dog, and it does not appear the dog liked the accused. The subject was released on charges of breaching their release conditions.

• Members used discretion as it related to charging another individual for breaching their release conditions.

This individual had been transported to the hospital and a Member was there on an unrelated matter. The individual was very intoxicated and received treatment and was subsequently lodged until sober. Still in quite a bit of pain due to the injuries received from their “fall”.

• A stumbling intoxicated individual was almost hit by a vehicle.

A call was made to the RCMP and we assisted this individual stumble to gaol.

• It is always interesting when an accused represents themselves.

In this case they fired their lawyer. They were guilty, they were on video, they are going to gaol and they will get out.

The suggestion was the accused should remain in custody for 3 more weeks and the accused wanted none of that.

The accused worked the system to get a 30 day sentence, with credit for time served they would be out in two weeks or less with good behaviour. Knowing the system they knew how to get out sooner than later. Sad part is they will be back. This individual who is too well known to us is already trying to manipulate the system and find a way to lodge a complaint against the RCMP or the business representative that caught them stealing.

• We are investigating a collision between a young child and a pickup truck. The driver was identified the following day. They were operating a vehicle that had just pulled a boat out of a body of water. The Member suspected alcohol use which resulted in a 72 hr suspension and seizure of the vehicle and boat which was on

the trailer and attached to the vehicle. Not our rules we just enforce them. Our investigation is continuing as it relates to the collision with the child.

• We had a gas and dash, however, we could not identify the vehicle or suspects.

• We had a collision involving a deer which did not survive and another with a cow which did not survive.

• A theft of over $1000 of diesel from a business was reported and our investigation is continuing.

• Members wrote approximately 10 tickets and 5 warnings over the week.

• Tickets were issued for fail to comply with licence endorsement $150 and the most expensive speeding ticket was for $210.

• A warning was issued for speeding.

• An Inspection notice was issued to replace worn tires.

• An ATV operator caused an accident between two vehicles.

The two occupants on the ATV did not remain, however, it appears both were wearing appropriate safety equipment.

Well, maybe not, the operator had no shirt and the passenger was in a bikini. Patrols were made and the operator was located and arrested and charged for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired driving.

Fortunately there were no injuries.

Did I mention the operator was only wearing underwear? Samples of 190 mg% were obtained and the individual was released the following day.

• A 911 call was allegedly made by mistake, however, upon arriving on scene it appeared there had been an issue amongst those that had over consumed alcohol. That said, upon the arrival of the Police all was well, except for the concern relating to a possible intoxicated individual driving an ATV. We saw no ATV but we looked. We are not even sure it existed.

• Members were called back to where the previous residence where one individual allegedly kicked the other in the head. This was some kind of Kung Fu move. When everyone sobered up Members made further investigational efforts and the level of cooperation had decreased dramatically and charges were no longer desired. That said we attended this residence numerous times until finally the one occupant

moved back to Regina.

We are not saying they were the cause of the unrest, however, it sure has been quiet since they left.

• We attended a reported fight with one individual having alleged mental health issues. One individual was arrested and lodged and Child Welfare was contacted being children were present. Nobody was having mental health issues and there was much alcohol involved.

• A further assault is being investigated. One intoxicated individual was head butted by another intoxicated individual. This investigation is continuing.

• Allegations were received that two individuals were “high as a kite” abusing drugs in the presence of children.

We invited our Police Dog Handler and his four legged partner due to our concern the one subject may run. It was determined no children were present, however, the one individual was arrested for outstanding warrants. The dog handler and his partner were not utilized,

however, it is sure nice knowing they are more than willing to come out and assist.

• If you get a cheque in the mail, a money order, or anything financial and don’t know why please don’t deposit it

thinking you are having a good day. One victim did so and they are now out banking fees being the substantial cheque was not legitimate.

From Page 5 - RCMP report • An intoxicated individual chose to take a nap on the fog line. We determined this nap was due to excessive consumption of alcohol and realized there is a much safer place to rest. They were lodged in the crow bar hotel for the night and released the following day.

• A vandal keyed a vehicle and attempted to be artistic in the process. Unfortunately they were a poor artist and the subject matter was obscene.

• Members responded to a complaint where a sibling was intoxicated and causing problems.

away. They were found in another vehicle and the operator was willing to take responsibility and care for the intoxicated individual.

• Members responded to a consensual fight and upon arrival both parties had calmed down and our involvement was no longer required.

• An intoxicated individual was causing problems at a business.

Previous to our arrival they had departed. It appears another individual determined the path their friend was on was not a good path to be on and departed with their friend before the arrival of the Police.

• Members responded to a complaint of a half naked intoxicated individual causing problems. Fortunately for the Members there was no half naked individual.

Some individuals were intoxicated, while others were sober. Members departed without any arrests or determination who may have been half naked and whether it was the upper or lower half that was naked.

• One individual did not pay the other individual fully for a piece of farm machinery. This is not Criminal, rather civil. A small tip for everyone reading this. If you don’t get full payment don’t let someone take the property.

• An impaired driver

was arrested and provided samples of 130 and 120 mg%. They were also charged for driving while suspended and given inspection notices for inadequate windshield, replace mirrors, replace tires, repair rear hatch mechanism and have engine inspected.

• A gas and dash was reported, however, upon investigating it was determined they just forgot to pay.

• An erratic driver was located and determined to be sober, however, not certain why throwing cherry pits out a window is of concern.

We tried to explain the driver that was following their vehicle was not happy with the pits hitting their windshield. I don’t think we were able to get through to the individual. Some folks are not as bright as others.

• An apparent intoxicated individual jumped in front of a moving vehicle and banged on the hood. The driver was shaken up which is totally understandable, however, we have no idea who the subject is.

• Several possible impaired drivers and erratic drivers were reported, however, our patrols were unsuccessful.

Please keep calling these reckless individuals in.

Sooner or later with the help of the public we will catch them.

• An utter threat investigation was quickly

concluded. An argument is not a threat and the threat has to be quite serious. Saying “You will regret the day you were born”, “I am going to make you regret what you just did” or “You better not date my sister or else” are not Criminal threats.

• Another threat investigation appears to be pure bullying in nature and involves youth. Our investigation is continuing.

• Approximately 15 tickets and 20 warnings were issued over the past week.

• Tickets were issued for fail to produce drivers licence - $100, fail to produced registration - $100, fail to wear seatbelt - $175, window tint - $115, exceed 60 km/hr when passing an emergency vehicle $224, and most expensive speeding ticket was for $206.

• Warnings were issued for drive with undue care and attention, fail to stop at stop sign, fail to produce registration certificate, fail to produce drivers licence, unregistered motor vehicle, brake lights fail to emit red light, and obstructed licence plate.

• Inspection notices were issued for inadequate windshield, window tint, inadequate day time running lights, repair licence plate lights, and attach mudflaps and fenders.

David and Linda Vail of Regina joined family members for a week-long get together at Kenosee Lake recently. Marie Vail and daughter, Shirley from Winnipeg and family members from Regina, Grenfell and Estevan attended this annual event.

Happy birthday to Joan Hamilton’s father, Jim McKellar who celebrated his 101st birthday on July 10. Family and friends gathered at the home of Audrey Rasmussen for tea and cake.

Evelyn Green has returned home after spending six weeks in Ontario. She was there to celebrate her greatgrandson, Rhen Patrick.

He is the son of James and Tricia Freeman and a grandson for Steve and Patricia freeman She also visited with Rebecca and Brad Saunders in Waterloo. They accom-

panied Evelyn home and stayed for a few days.

Happy 60th wedding anniversary to George and Suzanne Eisler, married 60 years as of July 22.

On the weekend of July 17 descendants of Jen Christian and Martha Jensen gathered at the Wawota Camp grounds for a family reunion. Five families arrived early prior to July 17. During this time they enjoyed the convenience of the Splash Park and visited the Red Barn and the kids enjoyed the games at the Wawota Museum. They went swimming at Kenosee, attended the fundraiser for Jayda Carpenter, visited Westwood Ranch and helped Jan Thorn’s 85th birthday at the Fairlight Tea House.

Many stated their appreciation for the friendliness of the Wawota people. Three members travelled to Brandon to visit with Joyce Aiktin and family. Joyce is the daughter of Albert and Nina Jensen. Friday was a of day of reminiscing and fun with about 50

family members arriving from B.C., AB, Man. and Sask.. The family has agreed that Wawota is their choice location for their 2021 reunion.

Russell and Susan Broughton from Terrance, BC. spent a week camping at Watrous with Wayne and Sharon Broughton. Sister Joyce Orr from Edmonton joined them They celebrated an early birthday for Wayne while there.

Sympathy to Cecile Cudmore and family on the passing of her father, Marcel Frecon. He passed away in Saskatoon on July 19 at the age 97 years.

Sympathy also to Cheryl Weatherald and family and friends on the passing of Tom Weatherald . He passed away on July 23 in a Regina hospital. He was just weeks shy of his 83rd birthday. Tom was an active member of the community serving on boards and committees and the Saskatchewan Legislature and involved in the sports scene of Wawota. He was a good friend and neighbour.

Arcola’s Antique Ag Daze, July 28, 2019, was a howling success. I was blown away by the amount of thought and effort put into the organization of the day, as well as by the 90 km. per hour winds!

From the pancake breakfast, to the parade, to the antique harvesting demonstration, it was obvious that the committee was dedicated to making sure everyone enjoyed the day.

The trade show, kid’s zone, petting zoo, children’s tractor pull, climbing wall, stick horse rodeo complete with bucking broncs, bouncers, blacksmith demo, pottery demo where you could get down and dirty playing with the clay on the potters wheel, collectible car show, fair exhibits, tractor pull, pinata demo, Kenosee Lake Kitchen Party music, the catered meal by Weirs, and the music by the Caragana Ramblers and Chris Byrne, were all designed to keep you entertained, no matter how antique you might be!

While the weather didn’t co-operate as much as one would hope, there was no doubt that folks were having a great time.

Rainbow crosswalk sparks conversations

On Wednesday, July 24, the crosswalk on Souris Avenue East, in front of Carlyle Elementary School, received a colourful facelift in the form of a PRIDE rainbow. The project was spearheaded by Jade Moore, who felt that it was important that Carlyle be inclusive and more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community.

When she first approached the town council, Moore had posed three possible locations: the Elementary School, the High School, or Souris Avenue at Main Street. Since the street in front of the High School is slated for repaving and Souris at Main could pose traffic issues during the prepping, painting and

drying, the Elementary School was agreed upon.

The rainbow itself represents different things to different people. To the LGBTQ+ community each colour has meaning. Red = life, orange = healing, yellow = sun, green = nature, blue = harmony, and purple = spirit. To Christians it represents a covenant between God and the Earth. To paraphrase Genesis 9:12 in the Message, when a rainbow appears in the cloud, it is a symbol to remind God and His people that never again will floodwaters destroy all life. To some it reminds them of Judy Garland’s rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, others think of leprechauns and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. versations, and perhaps led people to explore their beliefs and feelings, while giving equal consideration to others opinions and their equal rights to hold them.

ALIDA, SK ALIDA & AREA 4-H BEEF CLUB RESULTS FOR 2019

The Alida and Area 4-H Beef Club held their annual Achievement Day on Monday, June 3rd. The Achievement Day was held in Redvers at the Ag Society Arena (behind the hockey rink). Cattle judge for the day was Jason Frey. This year the club also offered a poultry project. In total our club had 18 members, 12 members in the beef project and 9 members in the poultry project (3 of our members did both projects!) Everyone took part in the day showing steers, heifers and chickens! Thank you to everyone who came to support and watch our day. The results are as follows:

Sincere sympathy and condolences are extended to the Frecon family and relatives on the death of Marcel Frecon who passed away July 19 in St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon at the age of 97 years. Marcel and his wife Denice (deceased 2001) farmed in the RM of Reciprocity #32 until 1990 when they sold the farm and moved to Kenosee Lake.

He was an active Legion member and had travelled overseas in 1990 and 1995 for the 45th and 50th anniversary celebrations of the Liberation of Holland. He is survived by three daughters Cecille (Harold) Cudmore, Diane (Victor) Ritchie, Jeannette (Kevin) Clarkson and their families, brother Vital (Elsie), sisters Mary-Louise Real and Jeanne Saleski as well as many in-laws and numerous nieces

and nephews.

There were a few locals who attended the Toronto Head Pins concert on July 20 at the White Bear Casino.

Donald and Shelley Boutin are proud new grandparents once again, welcoming little Lenny Smith, son of Cody and Michele Anderson and baby brother for Oliver. Lenny arrived safe and sound on July 16.

Jenson and Sage Howes, Regina spent a week holiday at the farm with their grandparents Pierre and Brenda Boutin. While here they participated in swimming lessons and enjoyed the pool on these warm days.

Afternoon visitors with Gray and Edel Cowan on July 24 were Jim and Rose Ball who were camping in the area and decided to pay a visit

with the Cowans as well as with Joyce and Jackie George in Redvers before returning to their home in Rocanville.

The Manitoba Thrashermen’s Reunion was held in Austin, Manitoba (July 24-28) and some of our local people attended the event.

Tim, Shelly and Ainsley Cowan attended the Minot State Fair on July 26, met up with Lacie and Kelsey and also visited with the Nilsen family before heading back home Saturday morning.

Congratulations to Robbie Boutin and Shandi McMillan who were married on July 27 at Cantal RC Church with reception and dance at the Boutin farm. The yard was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Many family members, relatives and friends attended the

Mary Thiessen began our circle of Friends with a Car Poem. We had to fill in the rhymes with parts of a car.

Then we shared driving experiences. The

wheels of Ralph Burke’s bicycle broke off. Later he had two John Deere tractors.

The steering column of Ralph Mills broke and he had to drag it home with a stick between the wheels.

Ruth Dennis was the Wawota “taxi driver” taking people to appointments in Regina.

Violet drove four miles to school in a horse and buggy.

Clifford was driving a 3ton truck full of grain when a wheel came off. It went in the ditch, and the frame bent and had to be sent to Regina. He was thankful it hadn’t happened in the Valley.

The first time Leora drove her father’s brand new car she didn’t make the corner, (but kept the secret).

Grace drove tractors first, cars much later.

Marie, at 50, went to Kennedy to get her license. Her husband drove the school bus; and

when his vision failed, she took on the job.

When Fred was driving to town with horses, he met a man who sold him a Model T. He didn’t know how the brake worked, and hit a woodpile. The horses beat him home.

Margaret’s father said, “You have to drive.”

She practiced a lot, but one examiner said, “You might want to move to the right side of the road.”

Janet is the only one who never had a driver’s license. She passed the written test, but on her first try with her son, she hit the wrong turn, and side swiped a small truck, so that was that!

Joyce remembered a long trip with two small girls. She was so tired; but every time she stopped and let them play in the ditch they work her up.

How’s your garden growing? Mine is so-so - potatoes looking great, beets coming along great too, beans not bad, but the rest is just sitting there waiting for more moisture – it is surely dry out there, just dusty powder – another good soaker would be great. to be enjoyed, but will keep on hoping.

Marcel passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK at the age of 97 years.

Marcel was predeceased by his loving wife Denise; his parents, Rene & Alice Fréçon; three brothers; Albert, Paul & Lucien; sister Clothilda Bouvier; 4 brothers-in -law; Bill Real, Peter Saleski, Henry Rutten & George Rogg; 3 sisters-in-law; Lorraine Fréçon, Marie Rutten, Rita Rogg & Seretha Rogg.

Marcel is survived by his 3 loving daughters; Cecile Cudmore of Wawota, SK., Diane (Victor) Ritchie of Saskatoon, SK., & Jeannette (Kevin) Clarkson of Medicine Hat, AB.; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; 1 brother Vital (Elsie); 2 sisters; MaryLouise Real & Jeanne Saleski; 2 brothers-in-law; Gerard Rogg & Rene Rogg; 6 sisters-in-law; Clarisse Fréçon, Jeannine Fréçon, Elsie (Clifford) Sabiston, Gabrielle (Peter) Warren, Celine (Bob) Osebold, Frances Rogg as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The Prayer Service was held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Both services took place at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, Redvers, SK with Rev. Wilfred Calinawan presiding. Interment took place at the Redvers Town Cemetery with lunch following at the parish hall.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Marcel Fréçon

Thomas Milton Weatherald 1937 - 2019 THOMAS MILTON WEATHERALD was born on August 14, 1937 at the family farm near Wawota.

He attended Fernley school and later high school in Wawota. Upon graduation he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1959 and received the Wall Street Journal award for academic achievement.

In 1964 at the age of 27 he was elected as the member of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly to represent the constituency of Cannington, a position he held until 1975. After completing his time as MLA he returned to farming in partnership with his brother.

He loved playing baseball for the Wawota Pats, competitive curling and coached minor and senior baseball.

He devoted considerable volunteer time to the community of Wawota as Chairman of the Recreation Board and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deer View Lodge. He also was very active volunteering at the Wawota Curling Club and at the baseball park. He had a love of farming, fishing and the environment.

He was a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and spent several terms as a member of the Moose Mountain Water Advisory Board.

In 2005 he was a recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and in 2007 he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.

Tom passed away at Pasqua General Hospital – Regina on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Tom is predeceased by grandson Ryan, his parents Lyle and Mary, in-laws Robin and Hilda Jopling, sisterin-law Helen Wilde and brothers-in-law Murray Wilde and Dave Engle. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Cheryl, his sons Michael (Sandra) and Patrick (Darcy) and grandchildren Logan, Tyson, Connor, McKenna and Kenzie, his sister Gail Engle, brother Joe Weatherald (Lauraine) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at the Wawota Town Hall on Tuesday, July 30 at 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wawota Community Forum, Wawota Curling Club or Wawota Ball Park.
