Bow Valley Jamboree 2019 Vince Parker played a mixture of rock, soul, jazz and blues, that had many fans up dancing in the rain.

Laurie Fornwald of Lampman provided in between act entertainment with beautiful vocals. Winsome Kind’s Leora Joy and Scott Perrie, from Vancouver, (but with some Saskatchewan roots) followed with some mesmerizing vocals, as they highlighted not only their vocals but their talented songwriting, as they performed beautiful original tunes. Naeplans, a Scottish duo involved in the Kenosee Lake Kitchen party, let loose with some traditional foot stompin’ �iddle, �lute, and piano tunes, as well as some captivating vocals. Local Oxbow resident and second place �inalist in Estevan sings, Christina Dyck, also entertained the audience with several beautiful tunes. Next up was Hook and Nail, the fabulous trio composed of Jeff Michel, Mike Davis and Lindsay Arnold from Estevan, who wowed the crowd with their beautiful harmonies and storytelling. And no Jamboree would be complete without a great country artist. The talented Chris Henderson, no stranger to the Jamboree stage, once again dazzled the crowd with his talent.

With many recordings to his name, Chris continues to entertain across Canada, and never disappoints.

It was about this time that the sun decided to shine and the weather turned around. Local siblings, Ian, Eryn and Kieran Stewart started the evening out with a couple of cover tunes, as well as an original written by Eryn. The Snake Oil Salesmen comprised of a group of guys who grew up in the small towns and First Nations of southern Saskatchewan had everyone rockin’ and groovin’ to as they say, “musiking that bites like a prairie rattler, goes down like a �ine wine and tosses your inhibitions to the wind.”

Daniel Espelien from Estevan then entertained the crowd with his original tunes before Tilted Kilts took over the stage.

The dance �loor �illed and the crowd continued to party as Tilted Kilts performed their hour set.

Concluding the evening was Sour Jack, who kept everyone dancing and partying until the wee hour s of the night.

The event was a fantastic family event, with activities for kids, great food and interesting vendors. Thank you to the many supportive sponsors of this events and the large number of volunteers who donate their time to this event.

It’s an event to add to next year’s calendar!

Submitted by Carole Stewart Even a misty overcast day didn’t deter those attending the Bow Valley Jamboree Music Festival, held in the Bow Valley Park south of Oxbow, SK on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Wrapped in blankets and wearing rain gear, attendees enjoyed a stellar day of music and entertainment with MC, Estevan radio personality, Nick Nielsen. Carlyle piper, Regan Miller, started the afternoon off with some spirited tunes, followed by a town address from Darrel Dunnigan and “O Canada”, sung

by Laurie Fornwald of Lampman.

by Redvers duo Brooke Ewert and Morgan Huenison, who played ukeleles and sang several songs.

Closing the opening ceremonies was a performance by Morgan Robertson of Carlyle, who played guitar and performed both cover tunes, as well as one of her own songs. The opening ceremonies was testament to the multitude of talent in southeast Saskatchewan.

Carlyle Junior Golf tournament

By Mary Moffat On Wednesday, August 14 the Carlyle Golf Course held their Junior Tournament with 24 golfers competing in two divisions. The 10 & Under group played 9 holes while the age 11 & over golfers played 18 holes.

The 10 & under winners were Aiden Schlienger and Alex

Bourhis, who shot 44 for one round. The winner was chosen by retrogression. For those non-golfers, there were three teams that all shot 44, so they went back to the highest score on the 9th hole for the winner.

Except that in this case, all three teams scored the same in both the 9th and the 8th holes.

On the 7th hole there

were only two teams tied, so it was back to the 6th hole to break the tie. Surprisingly, the two teams actually scored the same during every hole, so the decision was left up to the toss of a coin.

The 11 & over Division was won by Rider Lincoln and Kerr Cudmore who shot 66 for 18 holes (30/30).

Redvers pool is now open and fully accessible

By Anastasiia Bykhovskaia Estevan Mercury The Redvers community now has a fully accessible renewed outdoor pool.

The Redvers and District Recreation Centre reopened the facility after major renovations in the middle of July, and now kids and adults can enjoy the cool waters throughout the hot summer days.

“It has been (quite busy). An average of about 30 kids a day, that’s good for a small community,” said recreation director Alicia Stewart.

It was a big process. They originally started with the main part and later continued with the toddlers’ pool.

“The toddlers’ pool gave us a lot of grief over the years. We had some water issues, and we couldn’t get the water to stabilize very well in there,” noted Stewart.

So they decided to take it right out and rebuild.

They also added a zero-beach entry, so now, when all renovations are �inished, the pool became completely accessible.

“We tided the entry into our main pool, so now it’s just one big body of water. It’s easy to maintain, and it looks great and it’s accessible for everybody,” said Stewart.

Besides main structural renovations, they also installed three spray features and three geysers on the bottom of the pool to make the facility even more attractive and exciting to use.

The opening was slightly delayed. The original date was slated to July 1, but they had to do some �inishing touches, so they opened on July 19.

“We had a few snags early in the season, in spring.

The frost took longer to come out of the ground ... so we couldn’t get the sides of the pool,” explained Stewart.

There also were a few minor complications, which added some cost to the original project.

“We did add some extra piping in a bigger pool, so that was an unforeseen expense. But in the long run, it really stayed close to what the budget was.”

The opening day was a success. And ever since the Recreation Centre has been receiving a lot of positive feedback on the renewed pool.

“The summer’s been really exciting to see all the kids enjoying the place and getting all the positive feedback from everybody,” said Stewart.

The Redvers swimming pool is now accessible, enhanced with splash structures and geysers, and open for public.

She noted that there are a few more “tweaks to make, but that won’t happen till after we close.”

Weather permitting the pool will be open until the middle of September. The public swim is offered on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 p.m.-5p.m.,

Wednesdays at 1 p.m.-9 p.m., and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1p.m.-7p.m. They also have lessons every day from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Besides, they offer aquasize, lane swimming, senior swim and more.

The moat was a great place to while away the afternoon on a damp summer day at the Kenosee Super Slides.

These hardy sliders didn’t let the damp weather keep them from enjoying the day at the Kenosee Super Slides on Aug. 10.

There was no shortage of tubes as these children took advantage of the cool day at the Kenosee Super Slides. No one had to worry about a sunburn or waiting in line.

“Denim Wedding Tour” coming to Oxbow Blake Berglund, a musician originally from Kennedy, SK will be performing Saturday, Aug. 24, alongside his wife, Belle Plaine on the Bow Valley Outdoor Stage in Oxbow as part of their “Denim Wedding Tour”. Below are BELLE PLAINE Belle Plaine is a singer/songwriter who was raised on the Canadian prairies near the hamlet of Fosston, Saskatchewan – population: 45. Belle’s reverence for artists who defy categorization has led her to create a brand of roots music that combines vintage blues and swing tones of the 1940s with classic country styles made popular in the heyday of the Grand Ole Opry.

Berglund’s psychedelic country is delivered in a road-worn manner by his long time band The Vultures, a hot-shot group of twangsters whom have honoured country music traditionalisms while pushing their innovations for almost a decade. A tour schedule that regularly exceeds a hundred performances a year has seen Berglund alongside Marty Stuart, Dwight Yoakam, Tyler Childers, Belle Plaine, The Dead South and Colter Wall. The latter three as part of a movement coming from within the borders of their home province of Saskatchewan.
