By Kelly Johnson The Observer White Bear First Nations Chief Nathan Pasap and Members of Council of the White Bear First Nations have taken added precautions to keep residents of the White Bear First Nations and White Bear Resort safe during the onslaught of the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Of the greatest concern for all residents of the First Nations is the coming tourist season and the physical distancing guidelines put forth by the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Chief Pasap is tasked with not only looking out for the members of his First Nations, but also has the added responsibility to take care of the safety of the citizens who reside in the White Bear Resort.

Saskatchewan Health Authority has already asked people to refrain from visiting provincial parks and summer cabins.

It is not recommended, as the virus can spread by people moving from one place to another, present-

ing a unique situation to resort communities and the people living in those areas.

White Bear Resort and the Moose Mountain Provincial Park are strategic economic entities in the area, providing hundreds of jobs to the surrounding communities, as well as tourism dollars in outlying communities as well.

Chief Pasap has set up security for the residents to ensure “that everyone stays safe and healthy”, all people coming and going are asked to follow the guidelines set up to see everyone stays safe.

These guide-lines for now will be in effect till the end of May and will be carefully reviewed as necessary by the White Bear First Nations Chief and Members of Council.

For information and updates concerning the situation Chief Pasap has issued a statement for all those concerned including contact numbers.

Travelling home during the COVID-19 pandemic

Sean Choo-Foo sits at home during his quarantine of two weeks after a very memorable and unforgettable vacation to the Philippines.

By Kelly Johnson The Observer Sean Choo-Foo of Kenosee Lake left for the Philippines on February 26 for a vacation to see his girlfriend, Joyce, who resides in the capital city of Manila. He had planned this trip in November 2019 and had never traveled to the Philippines prior to this.

Everything was gearing up for a wonderful romantic holiday in the sun.

Choo-Foo had booked the time off his job as the sales rep. at The Observer and had his flights reserved and was ready for three weeks of a worry free dream vacation.

This all changed when his connecting flight from Hong Kong was not being allowed into any locations in Philippines. Forty-eight hours before departing Choo-Foo was tasked with rebooking a flight through Seoul, South Korea and was able to make the connection work. He was made aware of this news not by the booking agent, but by his girlfriend’s (who is a healthcare professional) patient, whose son worked for Caraway Airlines, the carrier Choo-Foo was flying with. Choo-Foo

was forced to frantically rebook all his flights.

At the time everything was still pretty much normal on the North American continent, but things changed in a hurry, with news of a cruise ship under quarantine in Japanese waters.

Upon arriving in Manila, it was soon international news about the ship and another was also anchored in San Francisco that also had Canadians aboard. The seriousness of the situation was soon to be grasped by Canadians when the government had to send a plane to bring home Canadian citizens on the ship, and only if they were showing no symptoms, for a quarantine of 14 days at a military base in Trenton, Ontario.

The worry free vacation soon became very serious when the Philippine President Duterte became very pro-active to keep the virus at bay and began announcing measures to keep the people of his country safe from the predicted pandemic that would eventually spread throughout almost every country in the world. Very much like the situation in Canada, new measures would be announced, rapidly

changing the situation for all in the Philippines.

Soon the news came, that all airports serving the Philippines, would close to international travel for one month, putting Choo-Foo into uncharted waters. He spent his last day in Philippines frantically trying to make it to the airport and during the Uber ride to catch what would be the last flight out before the midnight closure, President Duterte was addressing the nation on the radio, announcing that the country would go into lockdown, only allowing emergency vehicles and those needed in the healthcare profession to be allowed out.

With limited time and a situation that no one could predict the outcome of, Choo-Foo proposed to Joyce.

He made it to Seoul and after 16 hours alone in the airport, was able to connect to Vancouver.

From there he flew the last leg to Regina.

Upon returning home to Kenosee Lake Choo-Foo started his 14 days of self-isolation, which he has now completed.

“It’s good to be home, but life is anything but normal,” Choo-Foo stated.

Oh, and by the way, she said, yes!

Statistics show gains in COVID-19 fight

By Murray Mandryk Want some good news in the COVID-19 fight?

One strongly suspects you do.

You probably need some good news after a month of fighting this virus.

Self-isolating at home and not being able to see friends and family and trying to keep six feet apart of everyone you meet as if they might be trying to steal your wallet or your pursue can be very exhausting.

And as if health concerns were not enough, we also have to deal with the prospects of what all of this is doing to the economy and how long it might take to recover.

It’s all been exhausting and the end is not necessarily in sight.

To get through this, we need to keep in mind that this will be long fight with setbacks.

We will get through this, but there are going to be many hurdles along the way.

Those ups and downs will the hardest part, especially, when it seems the “downs” always seem to be accompanied by tragic news of death.

So to get through this bad news, let’s glean through the numbers to find something positive.

And the numbers do show positive things. Let’s start with the numbers of new cases that, as of the writing of this column, seem to be trending in the right direction.

Early last week before the Easter weekend, Saskatchewan registered just four new cases on April 6 and only seven cases on April 7.

The single-digit daily increase might be a bit misleading in that we know that there for any one COVID-19 positive test, there many times more cases where people haven’t been diagnosed.

But even if one views the diagnosed cases like polling, it’s obviously good news to see smaller numbers.

What the numbers also show is the value of social-distancing and perhaps the natural advantage that Rural Saskatchewan enjoy for a change.

As of April 7, the case numbers show that out of the total 260 cases, show 131 in Saskatoon, 52 in Regina and 48 in the north.

(The disproportionally high northern numbers are largely due to an infection at a snowmobile club banquet in Christopher Lake, showing exactly why Premier Scott Moe’s government wisely imposed the strict rules prohibiting public gatherings to less than 250 people and then later limited gatherings to less than 10 people.)

That left four cases in the far north, 10 in central Saskatchewan and 15 in southern Saskatchewan.

With only 25 known cases in that vast area we call “rural Saskatchewan”, statistics show it might very well be one the safest places on Earth.

So good have our strategies been at reducing these case numbers that, for the first time since Saskatchewan’s first case on March 12, we had more people who had recovered from COVID-19 in a day (14) than new identified cases (four).

That had led government to produce a new, positive statistic _ called “active cases” that totalled 169 as of April 7. (That was based on 260 known cases and 88 recoveries.)

Here is a statistic that’s really promising: The number of “active cases” a week early on March 30 was only 159. In other words, there were only10 additional active cases in a week.

This is literally what we mean when we say “Flatten The Curve”, limiting the growth so our emergency rooms aren’t swamped.

And here is a bit more good statistical news: At 214 cases per million people, Saskatchewan has a lower rate of COVID-19 known infections than anywhere in Canada and the U.S. other than Minnesota and West Virginia. (And those two states are testing at half the rate.)

It’s a long fight, we haven’t won and there will be setbacks.

But the numbers show we are making progress.

Palm branches, eggs and how we worship I was in my second year of university in a new city and new province where my mom, sister and I had moved after the very unexpected passing of my father.

In the months that followed, holidays were experienced quite differently, including the holy ones connected to my faith.

A family in the church we were attending extended an invitation to spend Easter Sunday on Shelley Luedtke their acreage about 10 minutes from the city. So after church we joined their extended family in a wonderful meal and conversation, and then were invited outside for an Easter egg hunt. I assumed we were out there to watch the little ones search for eggs but we were told we were supposed to scour the trees and high places.

Within moments we were on a full-on hunt, searching and laughing right alongside the little kids.

I was set to begin writing finals just a few days later. Serious business. But that afternoon I was like a kid again, finding joy in such a simple thing.

Of course the meaning of the day was found in the worship service earlier that morning which was a celebration of the cornerstone of my faith, but to continue the day with a family that shared that faith was a blessing I couldn’t have anticipated. We were welcomed into their traditions; both the sacred and the secular, the faith-filled and the fun.

If it had been my decision, we wouldn’t have gone to spend the day with that family. I would have headed home and resumed a study schedule rather than spend the day with people I didn’t know very well. Instead, that invitation led to such an unexpected joyous and meaningful celebration. The priority of faith. The importance of community.

Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week, was commemorated this year on April 5, albeit in very different ways in churches the world over. During part of Holy Week last year, my husband and I were in Mexico. Our plan to attend a worship service had to change and we found ourselves looking for a

televised alternative. That is when we came across coverage of the fire in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The fact that it happened when it did seemed especially devastating, since many times of worship should have taken place there leading up to Easter Sunday. Multiply that the world over to consider all the places of worship that can’t do what they need to do right now. Or at least can’t do it in the way they might want. But that’s not where the story ends.

At a time when the world needs hope, at a time when people need to gather to mourn their loved ones, at a time when people have such need to talk this through, the very places many would turn are now functioning differently. But what is important to note is that they are functioning. Of all the shutdowns, closures and restrictions we are now under, it is our faith institutions that in many ways have been best positioned to keep going. Although much happens within their walls, much more can happen outside of them. Because faith is not contained within a building, but is instead lived out in the lives of its people. Those people, led by pastors, ministers, priests, rabbis and all other religious leaders have found ways to keep worship, connection and community not only surviving, but in some cases, thriving. It isn’t easy, but they are making it happen in beautiful ways.

There are times we will find ourselves in situations other than what we planned…or hoped. Those moments require resolve, but they may also lead to increased appreciation for something that seemed so ordinary--gathering together for worship, for study, for community. Yet I have become so much more aware of all those around the world who never had that to begin with.

Yes, people of faith are doing things differently, and some traditions will not be happening. I’ll be honest, it makes me sad that I will not be spending the rest of this week the way I had planned. But just like always, there are unanticipated blessings.

Chiefly, new depths of growth and appreciation of faith. Because nothing can take a single thing away from what this week is all about. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! That’s my outlook.

Public Notice Village of Kenosee Lake

The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to the family of Colette Duperreault (Robert) of Willow Bunch, SK. Colette passed away Apr. 1 . Her funeral was held Apr. 4 with only her immediate family in attendance. Colette was the daughter of the late Camille and Jeanne Lemieux, formally of Alida/ Redvers and is survived by her immediate family, remaining seven siblings, in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Condolences are also extended to all members of the Lemieux families.

Another very quiet week and weekend has gone by. Not much of anything happening – we received a bunch of snow a good 3 to 4 inches to cover the ground and some built up in areas that the wind could blow it into. Had to dig out the winter boots so not to get snow in low shoes and wet feet, oh well, one thing – it shouldn’t last too long, as that old Mr. Sun can sure throw the warmth.

The men here have been busy moving grain from old bins to a hopper-bottom granary, which will make it so much easier to load up the semi when it comes time to haul to the elevator. Hopefully the road bans stay off the roads for a little longer – not much else for the farmers to do on these days, unless of course they have cattle. Yes, I do believe the calves will be coming along fairly quickly – it’s so cute to see those little calves out running around playing with each other (that’s the only thing I miss not having cattle around anymore). The guys also took their

combine to the “hospital” for its checkup, keeps the mechanics busy at this time of the year too, especially this year with not much else going on. It’s also GST time so I’m keeping busy with the farm books (oh thrills!). Oh well, it helps to pass the time and will soon be done. I should be spring cleaning and painting, but my old bones (knees and back) don’t agree and I’m not going to argue with them – It is one job I’ll gladly put off. Just doing the day-to-day chores is enough for me.

Well folks it does sound as if we’re in for the long haul yet of dealing with this issue of the coronavirus epidemic – so do continue to be safe, hunker down by self-isolating, washing hands and keeping a safe distance from others. We’re in this together – take care.

Happy Easter everyone – hope you all will have as great an Easter weekend as possible and that the Easter Bunny can still make it out for the little ones.

Road hockey, a Canadian tradition, is not distancing. As many veterans have said. “I went to war and risked my life for your sake. For my sake, stay at home and sit on the couch.” We had over half a dozen complaints in the last week of people not self isolating, some valid, most not, however, I am sorry, we have better things to do than tell people what “Self Isolate” means. We do appreciate the concern and understanding of the majority of the public, however, going for groceries or running a business is not self-isolating.

• Many people may think we are safe in our little corner of the province. That is unfortunately far from the truth.

Remember this started in one country and it is now a world issue. In addition many individuals are still travelling, be it mandatory for work or due to need, perceived or real. Please be cognizant that if it is not already in our area it will soon be in our area.

• Now we have all heard of Covid-19 but have you heard of all the frauds related to Covid-19? There are too many to mention, however, as we have stated before, nothing is free, if you have not applied for it is a fraud, if someone is selling something please remember “buyer beware” and never, ever, give out personal information or banking information. If you have a computer look at the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre website.

• 911 is for an Emergency. Not to get information or ask general questions. That number is 310-RCMP or any local RCMP number will get you assistance and it will be directed to the Police Detachment or agency of jurisdiction. Please stop calling 911 for non-emergencies.

We had two 911 hang-ups, a case of children playing with the phone and another 911 that was not an emergency over the past

week.

• Remember, it is not an emergency just because you believe it is an emergency. Please do not be attending the hospital unless you have called 811 first. The staff at our medical facilities are doing a tremendous job and they are doing so under some very trying circumstances.

Many of our health workers and first responders are working extended hours and, I know it is hard to believe, but they have a life outside of work. Yes, we all understand that we, “Signed up for this”, however, we need your co-operation and assistance so we can properly serve our communities.

One of the purposes of all the restrictions is to slow the curve so as our health care system can handle the influx of patients. If you attend a health facility because it is your right as a taxpayer you are not helping, rather you are hindering efforts to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

• We had our share of Mental Health and Child Welfare calls this reporting period.

• Now if you want us to do our job and you complain that we are not doing a good enough job, okay, we can understand that. We also realize some people don’t like the government and don’t like the police because we work for the government. We get that, and we know we are not perfect and we never took this job knowing we would please everyone.

That said, if you refuse to co-operate with us, or refuse to provide us enough information to charge someone then how can you sit back and complain? Yes, we catch people after the fact but finding someone who was allegedly driving impaired after they are out of the vehicle and not having anyone cooperate and be willing to provide that information is frustrating.

• An individual jumped in front of one of

our patrol vehicles. They said they were practising their shadow boxing techniques. They were escorted to a residence and told not to practice with vehicles. The greatest boxer that ever was could “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”, however, we all know that the butterfly and the bee never won a battle with a motor vehicle.

• Some people are just ignorant. Unfortunately it is not against the law to be ignorant, however, sometimes we get involved due to others being fearful of those that are allegedly ignorant. I would like to say all we do is suggest to the ignorant individual is to “Grow Up”. No, that would be too easy and most ignorant individuals do not realize the world does not revolve around them and they are not always right.

• If you have a business please keep close attention to your fuel cards and their use. It does not take long to have an ex-employee, a thief, a business partner, or almost anyone from racking up quite a bill.

Not now with the low gas prices, but still keep appraised as to what is going on with your fuel cards.

• Members responded to a possible domestic and provided a ride to one of the individuals in the residence. Buffalo Cab to the rescue.

• One individual was charged for assaulting a Police Officer, uttering threats and breaching release conditions.

Ironically the situation could have ended with a verbal warning, however, the actions of the accused caused the situation to become much worse which resulted in the charges.

• An individual was stopped at a check point at the Manitoba border and they were observed to not be wearing their seatbelt. The vehicle was then determined to not have insurance. The vehicle

was going to be towed and the individual was offered the opportunity to contact someone to come give them a ride.

This is when things took an interesting turn when the accused called for a ride and utilized another name, which was overhead by the law enforcement officer. Further checks confirmed the true identify of the accused and that the accused had warrants for their arrest in Saskatchewan. Carlyle Members then patrolled to assist and upon arrival arrested the individual for their outstanding warrants as well as for obstructing justice and for identity theft. If the accused had been honest they would have been released roadside for the warrants, the vehicle towed and likely one ticket.

Unfortunately, that is not how things turned out and the accused now faces 2 new Criminal Code charges, tickets in Manitoba and tickets in Saskatchewan.

Just be honest and cooperate folks.

• An individual was found to be in breach of their release conditions.

They were later located at another residence.

Members used discretion being the individual was behaving and did not realize they were so restricted as to where they could reside.

• Members responded to a report of an impaired driver. The alleged driver was arrested, however, our investigation determined they were sober, which was a surprise and impressive being this individual is known to struggle with addictions. Further investigation determined the credibility of the witness was questionable and the alleged intoxicated driver was driven home. Their cooperation during this investigation was greatly appreciated.

• We had a report of a significant amount of money stolen from a residence. Unfortunately although suspects were identified we have no evidence or proof to link them to the alleged theft.

• An intoxicated individual that was being uncooperative became cooperative once they realized the Police were called. No further involvement was required.

• We understand it is challenging and boring for some, however, if you choose to go out on your ATV please respect other individuals property. Many individuals have cattle and horses and they often get spooked by motor vehicles.

It is good to see Mike and Colleen home from Regina. They spent eight months there were Mike had surgery and spent many months in therapy. He will continue therapy at home.

Cheryl Weatherald is also home after her surgery. She is recuperating at home.

There isn’t much news these days but that is how it should be . . . no travelling or visiting or birthday or anniversary get-togethers. But I do want to acknowledge a couple of deaths.

Harold McQuitty of Kennedy passed away on Mar. 22 at Kipling integrated Health Centre. He was 92 years old. He and his wife, Daisy moved to Kennedy in 1986 when she became the minister at the Kennedy United Church.We remember them as residents of Dubuc and good friends when we lived there. Daisy was a formidable opponent in curling.

Sympathy to all the family and friends of the late Karl Johnson, who passed away Apr. 4. He was 78 years old. He leaves wife, Lynne and children, Dar-

la, Daryl and Ray and their families. Carl was well thought of in the community and his stories will live on.

We are certainly living in difficult times and so many are stepping up to the plate. Kudos to all of the essential workers in our health fields, all of the businesses that have found new ways of accommodating their customers (especially Howard and Jenny at Bigway who are rising to the occasion). There are others who are doing kindness for others, with deliveries or phone calls, and the decorated windows around town are inspiring. Roy Borolotto’s online services and scriptures and the great Palm Sunday Parade by the Free Methodist Church remind us that Easter will happen and we will each have to celebrate the risen Christ in our homes. The venue is different but the message is the same.

Maryfield Villa News Submitted by Janet Mark The only entries in our Visitors Book read, Charlotte Kovach, popcorn and movie. Doris Erickson came in to lead our sit down exercises, and card bingo; and Heather Ludlum will call the noisy bingo.

Canada Post is still working, so I told my son to drop my rental cheque to the Villa, and any printout he had for me, into the Post Office.

My daughter, with school and university closed, has four adults working at home on their computers.

They can go for walks, and the Eastern Seaboard is bursting into bloom, Dad is giving the kids, 18 and 20 driving lessons. (There is no school instructor like Saskatchewan, so lessons are up to the parent.) There will be no graduation exercises, only a certificate of her standing. Little hope of their annual flight to Saskatchewan. The son is chief cook and bottle washer, and is learning 20042BS0 to bake bread. Cabin Fe20042BS1 ver will likely set in.

Cabin fever got to my 17 year old father when he was alone in a shack on the prairie in 1094. His father had made the three day trip to Indian Head for a load

of coal. It hit our mothers, and us; when we were coped up with preschool kids in a three day blizzard.

What a boon the telephone was. That party line kept the district abreast of each other. Many households included aging parents, with a hospital only a dream.

Doris had several suggestions. One family she knew came to Grandma’s window, where they could see her, and talk with her on their cell phones. She suggested putting our collection of TeleMiracle teddy bears in the windows, where children could count them.

Today the last snow has gone from Maryfield. A robin appeared at dinner and geese and cranes are reported. Spring will cure a lot of our cabin fever.

Meantime we walk the halls, and turn off the TV. On the lighter side, with Justine Trudeau in quarantine, WE HAVE A WOMAN ACTING PRIME MINISTER, Christia Feeland.

Music is a wonderful medicine, it uses all the muscles of our body; engages our ears and eyes and brain. Thank you to Ralph Burke for his challenging hymn, with its tricky accompaniment. It speaks to today: “I don’t need to understand. I just need to hold His hand.”

From Page 6 - RCMP report • A Member attempted a traffic stop which caused the operator of the motor vehicle to hit the ditch and then come out of the ditch and then get stuck in the mud on the road. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and provided samples of 130 and 110 mg%. Two of the three passengers were lodged briefly as was the driver who probably panicked because they did not have a licence.

• An individual reported their fence had been taken down and

piled up. Our investigation is continuing.

• You are not allowed, permitted or entitled to park in a no parking zone, or in front of a fire hydrant. It does not matter who you are, who you think you are or what you are doing. Sorry, them are the facts.

• Members issued approximately “5 tickets and 20 warnings over the past week.

Area golf courses gear up for the coming season

By Kelly Johnson The Observer Southeast Saskatchewan is a golfer’s haven, with six well-maintained courses all within close proximity for area golfers, with four 9-hole facilities located in Carlyle, Redvers, Carnduff, and Moose Creek Regional Park and 18-hole courses at Moose Mountain Provincial Park, and the ever challenging White Bear Golf Course at White Bear Resort.

This is the time of year the course superintendents are very busy taking careful watch to see the courses are ready to open as the weather co-operates.

This year the superintendents have an added conundrum with the COVID-19 pandemic leaving them with the burning question, “Will they be open?”

Golf courses are unique in the current situation, as each golfer has a personal set of equipment and clubs and that it would be possible to limit two players to a group and one man to a cart, which could keep the very popular game playable within the pandemic guidelines.

Preparations, like having no ball washers, putting a stop in the cups, so the ball can be retrieved without having to handle the flag, would assist to make physical distancing possible.

Based on the directive from the Saskatchewan Health Authority all courses will be remaining closed at this time.

Director of Golf Saskatchewan, Brian Lee, said, “Golf courses can get prepared but

Kelvin Van Winkoop, who is the superintendant at Golf Kenosee, was optimistic that at some time there would be a golf season, stating his plan to “maintain the course with a bare minimum of workers and keep the grass cut to be ready to open when given the okay”.

Greenskeeper at the Moose Creek Golf Course, Larry Schick, basically had the same view, saying, “The tentative plan is to open, we just don’t know when.”

Steve Polsom of the Carlyle Golf Course was very busy the day I was able to visit the Carlyle course, checking the

greens that were still tarped. The situation was the same at the Carlyle course. Removing the protective green covers would need the workers to adhere to the physical distancing, as it is a necessity that they would need to be removed at the proper time. He was carefully planning the removal, “I think we can do it safely in small groups” and also was wary that it would be “up to the government” as to a timeline for opening, the ground crew “would take every precaution possible” when and if allowed to open, making mention, “the course looks really

good”.

White Bear Golf Course was also in unison with the other courses, whether the courses would be open to golf was definitely a concern.

Course superintendent Larry Palmer and course maintenance staff were also busy, making preparations to have the course ready for the upcoming season.

Redvers & District Lions Club – Trip of the Month revisions due to the current Covid-19 health pandemic

Due to the current world health pandemic, the Redvers & District Lions Club have made some adjustments to the current 2020-21 Trip of the Month Draws.

Until our public health officials deem it safe to be in public spaces while adhering to strict social and physical distancing measures, the monthly Trip of the Month raffle, which occurs at Affinity Credit Union with members of our club and their staff, will be suspended. When it is deemed safe to do so, we will resume our regular monthly draw schedule and make all missed draws at the same time.

Winners of all future prizes (trips) will be offered the cash alternative as usual, but if they choose to take the trip as awarded, the winner will be allowed an extension of up to 18 months from the date of winning to book their trip, given the current circumstances.

Should other unforeseen events regarding public travel, restrictions to travel, or health regulations affecting booking travel to the awarded destination, winners will be given the cash alternative for that trip.

Winners of trips from last year’s draw who chose to take the trip but have not yet booked will be contacted and offered the same choice as future winners.

We’re working to share that message with the public so they are aware that, while we continue to provide services to ensure housing availability and financial stability in ongoing real estate transactions, our members are taking the utmost care and precaution to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and protect the public.

It’s a reminder to the public that real estate is an allowable service, and our members are authorized to conduct their real estate business during the pandemic.”

Bottom line is we are still conducting business, but in a safe and responsible manner to keep everyone safe including our clients, agents, families and our communities.

We review the recommended new protocols by the Saskatchewan Real Estate Association.

We are doing as much as possible by video and virtual means including showings and meetings.

Reviewing the numbers provided by SRA we see Real Estate is still moving. South East Saskatchewan From SRA Stats: Sales in south east Saskatchewan were up 50.0%, going from 20 in March 2019 to 30 in March 2020, up 7.1% from the 5-year average.

Although the total number of sales fell 25.0% in Weyburn (down from 8 last year to 6 this year), this was offset by a 400.0% increase in Estevan, with sales going from 1 to 5. Yearto-Date (YTD) sales in the overall region were up 44.1%, going from 59 to 85, with YTD sales in Weyburn falling from 21 to 20, but rising from 10 to 23 in Estevan.

Sales volume in the region increased 33.5%, going from $3.7M to $5.0M in 2020 (but 15.1% below the 5-year average of $5.8M). Sales volume in Weyburn fell 50.7% ($2.3M in 2019 to $1.1M in 2020) while it increased 485.7% in Estevan ($0.1M to $0.9M).

YTD sales volume increased from $11.9M to $15.0M in 2020 (an increase of 26.3%), with Weyburn seeing a fall of 14.0% and Estevan seeing a 70.6% rise in sales volume.

The number of new listings in south east Sask fell 20.3%, going from 133 to 106 (8.5% below the 5-year average. The sales to listing ratio was 28.3% in the region, 27.3% in Weyburn, and 14.7% in Estevan, suggesting that market conditions favour buyers at the moment.

Helen & Ray settled in Willmar in 1966 running an auto repair shop and then a road construction company. They moved to Golden Prairie in 1993 where Ray was employed as the “Grader Man” and Helen also secured a job operating the local post office in the RM of Big Stick. They retired in 2007 and moved back to their roots where they are quite content and happy.

Travelling home during the COVID-19 pandemic

Sean Choo-Foo sits at home during his quarantine of two weeks after a very memorable and unforgettable vacation to the Philippines.

By Kelly Johnson The Observer Sean Choo-Foo of Kenosee Lake left for the Philippines on February 26 for a vacation to see his girlfriend, Joyce, who resides in the capital city of Manila. He had planned this trip in November 2019 and had never traveled to the Philippines prior to this.

Everything was gearing up for a wonderful romantic holiday in the sun.

Choo-Foo had booked the time off his job as the sales rep. at The Observer and had his flights reserved and was ready for three weeks of a worry free dream vacation.

This all changed when his connecting flight from Hong Kong was not being allowed into any locations in Philippines. Forty-eight hours before departing Choo-Foo was tasked with rebooking a flight through Seoul, South Korea and was able to make the connection work. He was made aware of this news not by the booking agent, but by his girlfriend’s (who is a healthcare professional) patient, whose son worked for Caraway Airlines, the carrier Choo-Foo was flying with. Choo-Foo

was forced to frantically rebook all his flights.

At the time everything was still pretty much normal on the North American continent, but things changed in a hurry, with news of a cruise ship under quarantine in Japanese waters.

Upon arriving in Manila, it was soon international news about the ship and another was also anchored in San Francisco that also had Canadians aboard. The seriousness of the situation was soon to be grasped by Canadians when the government had to send a plane to bring home Canadian citizens on the ship, and only if they were showing no symptoms, for a quarantine of 14 days at a military base in Trenton, Ontario.

The worry free vacation soon became very serious when the Philippine President Duterte became very pro-active to keep the virus at bay and began announcing measures to keep the people of his country safe from the predicted pandemic that would eventually spread throughout almost every country in the world. Very much like the situation in Canada, new measures would be announced, rapidly

changing the situation for all in the Philippines.

Soon the news came, that all airports serving the Philippines, would close to international travel for one month, putting Choo-Foo into uncharted waters. He spent his last day in Philippines frantically trying to make it to the airport and during the Uber ride to catch what would be the last flight out before the midnight closure, President Duterte was addressing the nation on the radio, announcing that the country would go into lockdown, only allowing emergency vehicles and those needed in the healthcare profession to be allowed out.

With limited time and a situation that no one could predict the outcome of, Choo-Foo proposed to Joyce.

He made it to Seoul and after 16 hours alone in the airport, was able to connect to Vancouver.

From there he flew the last leg to Regina.

Upon returning home to Kenosee Lake Choo-Foo started his 14 days of self-isolation, which he has now completed.

“It’s good to be home, but life is anything but normal,” Choo-Foo stated.

Oh, and by the way, she said, yes!

Statistics show gains in COVID-19 fight

By Murray Mandryk Want some good news in the COVID-19 fight?

One strongly suspects you do.

You probably need some good news after a month of fighting this virus.

Self-isolating at home and not being able to see friends and family and trying to keep six feet apart of everyone you meet as if they might be trying to steal your wallet or your pursue can be very exhausting.

And as if health concerns were not enough, we also have to deal with the prospects of what all of this is doing to the economy and how long it might take to recover.

It’s all been exhausting and the end is not necessarily in sight.

To get through this, we need to keep in mind that this will be long fight with setbacks.

We will get through this, but there are going to be many hurdles along the way.

Those ups and downs will the hardest part, especially, when it seems the “downs” always seem to be accompanied by tragic news of death.

So to get through this bad news, let’s glean through the numbers to find something positive.

And the numbers do show positive things. Let’s start with the numbers of new cases that, as of the writing of this column, seem to be trending in the right direction.

Early last week before the Easter weekend, Saskatchewan registered just four new cases on April 6 and only seven cases on April 7.

The single-digit daily increase might be a bit misleading in that we know that there for any one COVID-19 positive test, there many times more cases where people haven’t been diagnosed.

But even if one views the diagnosed cases like polling, it’s obviously good news to see smaller numbers.

What the numbers also show is the value of social-distancing and perhaps the natural advantage that Rural Saskatchewan enjoy for a change.

As of April 7, the case numbers show that out of the total 260 cases, show 131 in Saskatoon, 52 in Regina and 48 in the north.

(The disproportionally high northern numbers are largely due to an infection at a snowmobile club banquet in Christopher Lake, showing exactly why Premier Scott Moe’s government wisely imposed the strict rules prohibiting public gatherings to less than 250 people and then later limited gatherings to less than 10 people.)

That left four cases in the far north, 10 in central Saskatchewan and 15 in southern Saskatchewan.

With only 25 known cases in that vast area we call “rural Saskatchewan”, statistics show it might very well be one the safest places on Earth.

So good have our strategies been at reducing these case numbers that, for the first time since Saskatchewan’s first case on March 12, we had more people who had recovered from COVID-19 in a day (14) than new identified cases (four).

That had led government to produce a new, positive statistic _ called “active cases” that totalled 169 as of April 7. (That was based on 260 known cases and 88 recoveries.)

Here is a statistic that’s really promising: The number of “active cases” a week early on March 30 was only 159. In other words, there were only10 additional active cases in a week.

This is literally what we mean when we say “Flatten The Curve”, limiting the growth so our emergency rooms aren’t swamped.

And here is a bit more good statistical news: At 214 cases per million people, Saskatchewan has a lower rate of COVID-19 known infections than anywhere in Canada and the U.S. other than Minnesota and West Virginia. (And those two states are testing at half the rate.)

It’s a long fight, we haven’t won and there will be setbacks.

But the numbers show we are making progress.

Palm branches, eggs and how we worship I was in my second year of university in a new city and new province where my mom, sister and I had moved after the very unexpected passing of my father.

In the months that followed, holidays were experienced quite differently, including the holy ones connected to my faith.

A family in the church we were attending extended an invitation to spend Easter Sunday on Shelley Luedtke their acreage about 10 minutes from the city. So after church we joined their extended family in a wonderful meal and conversation, and then were invited outside for an Easter egg hunt. I assumed we were out there to watch the little ones search for eggs but we were told we were supposed to scour the trees and high places.

Within moments we were on a full-on hunt, searching and laughing right alongside the little kids.

I was set to begin writing finals just a few days later. Serious business. But that afternoon I was like a kid again, finding joy in such a simple thing.

Of course the meaning of the day was found in the worship service earlier that morning which was a celebration of the cornerstone of my faith, but to continue the day with a family that shared that faith was a blessing I couldn’t have anticipated. We were welcomed into their traditions; both the sacred and the secular, the faith-filled and the fun.

If it had been my decision, we wouldn’t have gone to spend the day with that family. I would have headed home and resumed a study schedule rather than spend the day with people I didn’t know very well. Instead, that invitation led to such an unexpected joyous and meaningful celebration. The priority of faith. The importance of community.

Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week, was commemorated this year on April 5, albeit in very different ways in churches the world over. During part of Holy Week last year, my husband and I were in Mexico. Our plan to attend a worship service had to change and we found ourselves looking for a

televised alternative. That is when we came across coverage of the fire in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The fact that it happened when it did seemed especially devastating, since many times of worship should have taken place there leading up to Easter Sunday. Multiply that the world over to consider all the places of worship that can’t do what they need to do right now. Or at least can’t do it in the way they might want. But that’s not where the story ends.

At a time when the world needs hope, at a time when people need to gather to mourn their loved ones, at a time when people have such need to talk this through, the very places many would turn are now functioning differently. But what is important to note is that they are functioning. Of all the shutdowns, closures and restrictions we are now under, it is our faith institutions that in many ways have been best positioned to keep going. Although much happens within their walls, much more can happen outside of them. Because faith is not contained within a building, but is instead lived out in the lives of its people. Those people, led by pastors, ministers, priests, rabbis and all other religious leaders have found ways to keep worship, connection and community not only surviving, but in some cases, thriving. It isn’t easy, but they are making it happen in beautiful ways.

There are times we will find ourselves in situations other than what we planned…or hoped. Those moments require resolve, but they may also lead to increased appreciation for something that seemed so ordinary--gathering together for worship, for study, for community. Yet I have become so much more aware of all those around the world who never had that to begin with.

Yes, people of faith are doing things differently, and some traditions will not be happening. I’ll be honest, it makes me sad that I will not be spending the rest of this week the way I had planned. But just like always, there are unanticipated blessings.

Chiefly, new depths of growth and appreciation of faith. Because nothing can take a single thing away from what this week is all about. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! That’s my outlook.

The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to the family of Colette Duperreault (Robert) of Willow Bunch, SK. Colette passed away Apr. 1 . Her funeral was held Apr. 4 with only her immediate family in attendance. Colette was the daughter of the late Camille and Jeanne Lemieux, formally of Alida/ Redvers and is survived by her immediate family, remaining seven siblings, in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. Condolences are also extended to all members of the Lemieux families.

Another very quiet week and weekend has gone by. Not much of anything happening – we received a bunch of snow a good 3 to 4 inches to cover the ground and some built up in areas that the wind could blow it into. Had to dig out the winter boots so not to get snow in low shoes and wet feet, oh well, one thing – it shouldn’t last too long, as that old Mr. Sun can sure throw the warmth.

The men here have been busy moving grain from old bins to a hopper-bottom granary, which will make it so much easier to load up the semi when it comes time to haul to the elevator. Hopefully the road bans stay off the roads for a little longer – not much else for the farmers to do on these days, unless of course they have cattle. Yes, I do believe the calves will be coming along fairly quickly – it’s so cute to see those little calves out running around playing with each other (that’s the only thing I miss not having cattle around anymore). The guys also took their

combine to the “hospital” for its checkup, keeps the mechanics busy at this time of the year too, especially this year with not much else going on. It’s also GST time so I’m keeping busy with the farm books (oh thrills!). Oh well, it helps to pass the time and will soon be done. I should be spring cleaning and painting, but my old bones (knees and back) don’t agree and I’m not going to argue with them – It is one job I’ll gladly put off. Just doing the day-to-day chores is enough for me.

Well folks it does sound as if we’re in for the long haul yet of dealing with this issue of the coronavirus epidemic – so do continue to be safe, hunker down by self-isolating, washing hands and keeping a safe distance from others. We’re in this together – take care.

Happy Easter everyone – hope you all will have as great an Easter weekend as possible and that the Easter Bunny can still make it out for the little ones.

Road hockey, a Canadian tradition, is not distancing. As many veterans have said. “I went to war and risked my life for your sake. For my sake, stay at home and sit on the couch.” We had over half a dozen complaints in the last week of people not self isolating, some valid, most not, however, I am sorry, we have better things to do than tell people what “Self Isolate” means. We do appreciate the concern and understanding of the majority of the public, however, going for groceries or running a business is not self-isolating.

• Many people may think we are safe in our little corner of the province. That is unfortunately far from the truth.

Remember this started in one country and it is now a world issue. In addition many individuals are still travelling, be it mandatory for work or due to need, perceived or real. Please be cognizant that if it is not already in our area it will soon be in our area.

• Now we have all heard of Covid-19 but have you heard of all the frauds related to Covid-19? There are too many to mention, however, as we have stated before, nothing is free, if you have not applied for it is a fraud, if someone is selling something please remember “buyer beware” and never, ever, give out personal information or banking information. If you have a computer look at the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre website.

• 911 is for an Emergency. Not to get information or ask general questions. That number is 310-RCMP or any local RCMP number will get you assistance and it will be directed to the Police Detachment or agency of jurisdiction. Please stop calling 911 for non-emergencies.

We had two 911 hang-ups, a case of children playing with the phone and another 911 that was not an emergency over the past

week.

• Remember, it is not an emergency just because you believe it is an emergency. Please do not be attending the hospital unless you have called 811 first. The staff at our medical facilities are doing a tremendous job and they are doing so under some very trying circumstances.

Many of our health workers and first responders are working extended hours and, I know it is hard to believe, but they have a life outside of work. Yes, we all understand that we, “Signed up for this”, however, we need your co-operation and assistance so we can properly serve our communities.

One of the purposes of all the restrictions is to slow the curve so as our health care system can handle the influx of patients. If you attend a health facility because it is your right as a taxpayer you are not helping, rather you are hindering efforts to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

• We had our share of Mental Health and Child Welfare calls this reporting period.

• Now if you want us to do our job and you complain that we are not doing a good enough job, okay, we can understand that. We also realize some people don’t like the government and don’t like the police because we work for the government. We get that, and we know we are not perfect and we never took this job knowing we would please everyone.

That said, if you refuse to co-operate with us, or refuse to provide us enough information to charge someone then how can you sit back and complain? Yes, we catch people after the fact but finding someone who was allegedly driving impaired after they are out of the vehicle and not having anyone cooperate and be willing to provide that information is frustrating.

• An individual jumped in front of one of

our patrol vehicles. They said they were practising their shadow boxing techniques. They were escorted to a residence and told not to practice with vehicles. The greatest boxer that ever was could “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”, however, we all know that the butterfly and the bee never won a battle with a motor vehicle.

• Some people are just ignorant. Unfortunately it is not against the law to be ignorant, however, sometimes we get involved due to others being fearful of those that are allegedly ignorant. I would like to say all we do is suggest to the ignorant individual is to “Grow Up”. No, that would be too easy and most ignorant individuals do not realize the world does not revolve around them and they are not always right.

• If you have a business please keep close attention to your fuel cards and their use. It does not take long to have an ex-employee, a thief, a business partner, or almost anyone from racking up quite a bill.

Not now with the low gas prices, but still keep appraised as to what is going on with your fuel cards.

• Members responded to a possible domestic and provided a ride to one of the individuals in the residence. Buffalo Cab to the rescue.

• One individual was charged for assaulting a Police Officer, uttering threats and breaching release conditions.

Ironically the situation could have ended with a verbal warning, however, the actions of the accused caused the situation to become much worse which resulted in the charges.

• An individual was stopped at a check point at the Manitoba border and they were observed to not be wearing their seatbelt. The vehicle was then determined to not have insurance. The vehicle

was going to be towed and the individual was offered the opportunity to contact someone to come give them a ride.

This is when things took an interesting turn when the accused called for a ride and utilized another name, which was overhead by the law enforcement officer. Further checks confirmed the true identify of the accused and that the accused had warrants for their arrest in Saskatchewan. Carlyle Members then patrolled to assist and upon arrival arrested the individual for their outstanding warrants as well as for obstructing justice and for identity theft. If the accused had been honest they would have been released roadside for the warrants, the vehicle towed and likely one ticket.

Unfortunately, that is not how things turned out and the accused now faces 2 new Criminal Code charges, tickets in Manitoba and tickets in Saskatchewan.

Just be honest and cooperate folks.

• An individual was found to be in breach of their release conditions.

They were later located at another residence.

Members used discretion being the individual was behaving and did not realize they were so restricted as to where they could reside.

• Members responded to a report of an impaired driver. The alleged driver was arrested, however, our investigation determined they were sober, which was a surprise and impressive being this individual is known to struggle with addictions. Further investigation determined the credibility of the witness was questionable and the alleged intoxicated driver was driven home. Their cooperation during this investigation was greatly appreciated.

• We had a report of a significant amount of money stolen from a residence. Unfortunately although suspects were identified we have no evidence or proof to link them to the alleged theft.

• An intoxicated individual that was being uncooperative became cooperative once they realized the Police were called. No further involvement was required.

• We understand it is challenging and boring for some, however, if you choose to go out on your ATV please respect other individuals property. Many individuals have cattle and horses and they often get spooked by motor vehicles.

It is good to see Mike and Colleen home from Regina. They spent eight months there were Mike had surgery and spent many months in therapy. He will continue therapy at home.

Cheryl Weatherald is also home after her surgery. She is recuperating at home.

There isn’t much news these days but that is how it should be . . . no travelling or visiting or birthday or anniversary get-togethers. But I do want to acknowledge a couple of deaths.

Harold McQuitty of Kennedy passed away on Mar. 22 at Kipling integrated Health Centre. He was 92 years old. He and his wife, Daisy moved to Kennedy in 1986 when she became the minister at the Kennedy United Church.We remember them as residents of Dubuc and good friends when we lived there. Daisy was a formidable opponent in curling.

Sympathy to all the family and friends of the late Karl Johnson, who passed away Apr. 4. He was 78 years old. He leaves wife, Lynne and children, Dar-

la, Daryl and Ray and their families. Carl was well thought of in the community and his stories will live on.

We are certainly living in difficult times and so many are stepping up to the plate. Kudos to all of the essential workers in our health fields, all of the businesses that have found new ways of accommodating their customers (especially Howard and Jenny at Bigway who are rising to the occasion). There are others who are doing kindness for others, with deliveries or phone calls, and the decorated windows around town are inspiring. Roy Borolotto’s online services and scriptures and the great Palm Sunday Parade by the Free Methodist Church remind us that Easter will happen and we will each have to celebrate the risen Christ in our homes. The venue is different but the message is the same.

Canada Post is still working, so I told my son to drop my rental cheque to the Villa, and any printout he had for me, into the Post Office.

My daughter, with school and university closed, has four adults working at home on their computers.

They can go for walks, and the Eastern Seaboard is bursting into bloom, Dad is giving the kids, 18 and 20 driving lessons. (There is no school instructor like Saskatchewan, so lessons are up to the parent.) There will be no graduation exercises, only a certificate of her standing. Little hope of their annual flight to Saskatchewan. The son is chief cook and bottle washer, and is learning 20042BS0 to bake bread. Cabin Fe20042BS1 ver will likely set in.

Cabin fever got to my 17 year old father when he was alone in a shack on the prairie in 1094. His father had made the three day trip to Indian Head for a load

of coal. It hit our mothers, and us; when we were coped up with preschool kids in a three day blizzard.

What a boon the telephone was. That party line kept the district abreast of each other. Many households included aging parents, with a hospital only a dream.

Doris had several suggestions. One family she knew came to Grandma’s window, where they could see her, and talk with her on their cell phones. She suggested putting our collection of TeleMiracle teddy bears in the windows, where children could count them.

Today the last snow has gone from Maryfield. A robin appeared at dinner and geese and cranes are reported. Spring will cure a lot of our cabin fever.

Meantime we walk the halls, and turn off the TV. On the lighter side, with Justine Trudeau in quarantine, WE HAVE A WOMAN ACTING PRIME MINISTER, Christia Feeland.

Music is a wonderful medicine, it uses all the muscles of our body; engages our ears and eyes and brain. Thank you to Ralph Burke for his challenging hymn, with its tricky accompaniment. It speaks to today: “I don’t need to understand. I just need to hold His hand.”

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and provided samples of 130 and 110 mg%. Two of the three passengers were lodged briefly as was the driver who probably panicked because they did not have a licence.

• An individual reported their fence had been taken down and

piled up. Our investigation is continuing.

Area golf courses gear up for the coming season

By Kelly Johnson The Observer Southeast Saskatchewan is a golfer’s haven, with six well-maintained courses all within close proximity for area golfers, with four 9-hole facilities located in Carlyle, Redvers, Carnduff, and Moose Creek Regional Park and 18-hole courses at Moose Mountain Provincial Park, and the ever challenging White Bear Golf Course at White Bear Resort.

This is the time of year the course superintendents are very busy taking careful watch to see the courses are ready to open as the weather co-operates.

This year the superintendents have an added conundrum with the COVID-19 pandemic leaving them with the burning question, “Will they be open?”

Golf courses are unique in the current situation, as each golfer has a personal set of equipment and clubs and that it would be possible to limit two players to a group and one man to a cart, which could keep the very popular game playable within the pandemic guidelines.

Preparations, like having no ball washers, putting a stop in the cups, so the ball can be retrieved without having to handle the flag, would assist to make physical distancing possible.

Based on the directive from the Saskatchewan Health Authority all courses will be remaining closed at this time.

Director of Golf Saskatchewan, Brian Lee, said, “Golf courses can get prepared but

Kelvin Van Winkoop, who is the superintendant at Golf Kenosee, was optimistic that at some time there would be a golf season, stating his plan to “maintain the course with a bare minimum of workers and keep the grass cut to be ready to open when given the okay”.

Greenskeeper at the Moose Creek Golf Course, Larry Schick, basically had the same view, saying, “The tentative plan is to open, we just don’t know when.”

Steve Polsom of the Carlyle Golf Course was very busy the day I was able to visit the Carlyle course, checking the

greens that were still tarped. The situation was the same at the Carlyle course. Removing the protective green covers would need the workers to adhere to the physical distancing, as it is a necessity that they would need to be removed at the proper time. He was carefully planning the removal, “I think we can do it safely in small groups” and also was wary that it would be “up to the government” as to a timeline for opening, the ground crew “would take every precaution possible” when and if allowed to open, making mention, “the course looks really

good”.

White Bear Golf Course was also in unison with the other courses, whether the courses would be open to golf was definitely a concern.

Course superintendent Larry Palmer and course maintenance staff were also busy, making preparations to have the course ready for the upcoming season.

Palmer is very optimistic about the coming season and the excellent shape of the course at White Bear Resort, adding, “We’re going to prepare like we are going to open and wait and see for the government directions”.

Redvers & District Lions Club – Trip of the Month revisions due to the current Covid-19 health pandemic

Due to the current world health pandemic, the Redvers & District Lions Club have made some adjustments to the current 2020-21 Trip of the Month Draws.

Until our public health officials deem it safe to be in public spaces while adhering to strict social and physical distancing measures, the monthly Trip of the Month raffle, which occurs at Affinity Credit Union with members of our club and their staff, will be suspended. When it is deemed safe to do so, we will resume our regular monthly draw schedule and make all missed draws at the same time.

Winners of all future prizes (trips) will be offered the cash alternative as usual, but if they choose to take the trip as awarded, the winner will be allowed an extension of up to 18 months from the date of winning to book their trip, given the current circumstances.

Should other unforeseen events regarding public travel, restrictions to travel, or health regulations affecting booking travel to the awarded destination, winners will be given the cash alternative for that trip.

Winners of trips from last year’s draw who chose to take the trip but have not yet booked will be contacted and offered the same choice as future winners.

Reviewing the numbers provided by SRA we see Real Estate is still moving. South East Saskatchewan From SRA Stats: Sales in south east Saskatchewan were up 50.0%, going from 20 in March 2019 to 30 in March 2020, up 7.1% from the 5-year average.

Although the total number of sales fell 25.0% in Weyburn (down from 8 last year to 6 this year), this was offset by a 400.0% increase in Estevan, with sales going from 1 to 5. Yearto-Date (YTD) sales in the overall region were up 44.1%, going from 59 to 85, with YTD sales in Weyburn falling from 21 to 20, but rising from 10 to 23 in Estevan.

Sales volume in the region increased 33.5%, going from $3.7M to $5.0M in 2020 (but 15.1% below the 5-year average of $5.8M). Sales volume in Weyburn fell 50.7% ($2.3M in 2019 to $1.1M in 2020) while it increased 485.7% in Estevan ($0.1M to $0.9M).

YTD sales volume increased from $11.9M to $15.0M in 2020 (an increase of 26.3%), with Weyburn seeing a fall of 14.0% and Estevan seeing a 70.6% rise in sales volume.

The number of new listings in south east Sask fell 20.3%, going from 133 to 106 (8.5% below the 5-year average. The sales to listing ratio was 28.3% in the region, 27.3% in Weyburn, and 14.7% in Estevan, suggesting that market conditions favour buyers at the moment.

Helen & Ray settled in Willmar in 1966 running an auto repair shop and then a road construction company. They moved to Golden Prairie in 1993 where Ray was employed as the “Grader Man” and Helen also secured a job operating the local post office in the RM of Big Stick. They retired in 2007 and moved back to their roots where they are quite content and happy.
