Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards Gala Night 2015 11 April 2015 | One World Hotel, Bandar Utama

Every year, during the celebration of World Landscape Architecture Month, the MLAA Gala Night takes place, to honour the crème de la crème of the landscape architectural field. With more than 700 guests in attendance this year, it was one of the biggest and most grand MLAA Gala Nights that ILAM has ever organised.

With the theme, ‘The Great Gatsby 1920‘, the guests were dressed to impress, each attired to reflect the glorious era of the “roaring ‘20s”. At the event, there was a beautiful garden backdrop by Eco World and an MLAA event backdrop for photo sessions, selfies and wefies. Also on display were publications from Pentago Landscape, and a lighting exhibition by Megaman. The event was graced by the Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing & Local Government, YB Datuk Halimah binti Mohd Sadique. A total of more than 35 awards were presented from a total of 108 submissions. You can refer to the following pages in this issue for more details. As the most anticipated annual social gathering for ILAM, the gala night witnessed attendance from various professions, landscape architects, city councils, developers, suppliers, landscape contractors, researchers and students. Lucky guests were entertained via a special appearance by “One in a Million” winner, Ayu, alongside other wonderful 1920s-inspired jazz performances. Special thanks must go to our Platinum Sponsor, Eco World, and our Gold Sponsors, Gamuda Land, and Satar Landscaping, as well as our other supporters and contributors, for making this event such a success.

The 3 focus areas were ‘Rooftop Greenery’, ‘Vertical Greenery’ and ‘Water Sensitive Urban Design’. DAY 1: URBAN LIVING AND PLAY ENVIRONMENT

The program kicked-off with a trip to the Pinnacle at Duxton, a multiple award winning high density high rise public housing development in the heart of Singapore. The focus is on the multi-level greeneries introduced as a means of extending possible green communal spaces at a higher altitude. The technical session was conducted by Dr. Lydia Ma from the Housing Development Board of Singapore. The tour continued with a visit to The Gardens by the Bay, whereby 3 other technical sessions were conducted. The first, a themed playground, the treehouse, conducted by Mr. Jason Sim from Playpoint Singapore, is a customised playground system built around a huge cluster of mature trees. It was followed by a presentation conducted by Ms. Samantha Koh and Mr. Mark Wong from CT-Art Creation Singapore on Water Play at the children’s garden, where the entire mechanical and electrical system for the water play was planned to be energy efficient.
