HI! I AM CARLOS CASTRO, A FIRST-YEAR ARCHITECTURE STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA. I WAS BORN IN VENEZUELA, AND EVER SINCE I CAN REMEMBER MY FAMILY AND I HAVE MOVED AROUND COUNTRIES NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS EXPOSED ME AND FORCED ME TO ADAPT TO DIFFERENT CULTURES, WHICH SHOWED ME HOW CITIES’ DESIGNS AND THEIR SPACES INTERACT WITH US AND SHAPE OUR EVERY DAY, ULTIMATELY SPARKING MY LOVE FOR ARCHITECTURE. THROUGH MY DESIGNS, I AIM TO ONE DAY MAKE AN IMPACT ON PEOPLE’S LIVES BY CREATING INCLUSIVE ARCHITECTURE THAT CULTIVATES COMMUNITY, INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY AND EFFICIENCY, WITH THE GOAL TO CREATE PROSPERITY FOR ALL. I BELIEVE THAT AS ARCHITECTS, THE HUMAN INTERACTIONS WE CREATE ALLOW US TO LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER, AND IT IS THERE WHERE THE BEAUTY AND MAGIC OF DESIGN LIES.

THE MATRIX
THE DISCOVERY OF ARMATURE/DATUM. THE DUALITY OF REVEAL AND CONCEAL. THE BEAUTY OF REPETITION.
LANGUAGE. RYTHIM. SCALE.
THE MATRIX MODEL IS INFORMED AND HELD TOGETHER BY A DATUM, A SINGLE PIECE ARMATURE CARVED OUT OF PINE WOOD. AT 16IN TALL AND 4.5IN WIDE THE ARMATURE OR DATUM CAN STAND BOTH HORIZONTALLY AND VERITICALLY AND SERVES AS THE PRIMARY MASS OF THE PROJECT.
CUT SECTION COLLAGE DEVELOPED TO DISCOVER THE DATUM.
THE MODEL EXPLORES A VERIETY OF SCALE AND SPACES. THROUGH THE REVEAL AND CONCEAL OF THE DATUM THE CENTRAL NODE BEGINS TO BE INFORMED, AND IT POCESSES A SYSTEM THAT IS DEVELOPED BY ELEMENTS OF RYTHIM AND REPETITION.
LIGHT AND SHADOW EXPLORATION
AN EXPLORATION OF LIGHT AND SHADOW, IN WHICH WE ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE THE LIGHT CONDITIONS OF AN ASSIGNED SITE. WITH THIS ANALYSIS, WE EMBARK ON THE EXPLORATION OF A PLACE THAT IS HOME TO THREE VENDING MACHINES. A SPACE THAT CREATES DIFFERENT CONDITIONS OF LIGHT AND SHADOW THROUGH A PHYSICAL MODEL INFORMED BY THE SIGHT CONDITIONS, AS WELL AS THREE ATMOSPHERIC SKETCHES THAT REPRESENT WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO TAKE PART OF SUCH MUNDANE INTERACTION.
‘CARDBOARD CONTRAMPTION’ IT IS ABLE TO HINGE, PIVOT, AND SLIDE. WHEN THESE ACTIONS WORK TOGETHER IN HARMONY THE CONTRAPTION IS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE LIGHT CONDITIONS OF THE SITE. A LENSE THAT ALLOWS THE VIWER TO UNDERSTAND THE SITE.

BUILDING ANALYSIS
IN THIS PROJECT, WE DEAL WITH TWO DIFFERENT BUILDINGS AND A CHAIR AT THE SMALL, MEDIUM, AND LARGE SCALE. DRAFTING PLANS AND CUT SECTIONS OF THE KUNSTHAUS MUSEUM, THE RAVINE GUEST HOUSE, AND THE S BEND CHAIR AT THE 3/32ND, 3/16TH, AND 1/4TH SCALE. THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS TO CREATE A SPATIAL COMPOSITION THAT IS INFORMED BY THINGS THAT ALREADY EXIST.
