PROBLEM The project must be located in one of the poorest and most isolated villages in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The settlement has a direct relationship with the river, thus their main source of HFRQRPLF UHVRXUFHV FRPHV IURP ĆVKLQJ DFWLYLWLHV +RZHYHU GXH WR PDQ\ IDFWRUV WKH VHWWOHPHQW GRHV QRW KDYH VXIĆFLHQW MRE opportunities and the river currently has a high level of pollution.

PROPOSAL The proposal is mainly focused on the inhabitants and environmental recovery. Thus, it contributes to increasing the work opportunities to avoid displacement to the city and the eventual abandonment of the place. Parallelly, these work opportunities are related to the recovery of the contaminated river. Informal jobs such as plastic collection become formal and help to improve the environment.

The architectural project is developed with lightweight and modular structures made of wood and OSB boards, which allow to be transported, armed, and built in a simple way. This structure LV VXSSRUWHG LQ FRQWDLQHUV WKDW PDNH WKH DUFKLWHFWXUDO HOHPHQW ćRDW RQ WKH EDQNV RI WKH ULYHU Inside the element are distributed spaces dedicated to the collection, processing, and reuse of plastic waste. This is complemented by spaces for recreation and contemplation of the landscape.Thus, three objectives are achieved: the production of new sources of employment, the generation of public space, and the recycling of plastic waste.

PROBLEM Due to deforestation problems, the proposal required by the contest has to contribute in two main ways: improvement of environmental awareness of people, and research spaces design. So, a site located near the forest was designated to host scientists and conservation groups.

Also, the building has to have spaces for visitors, and for awareness and spread of information about environmental problems.

PROPOSAL According to Derrida, deconstruction is the search to disassemble how we see and do things. Similarly, the project begins by calling into question how architects have been doing architecture. This fact is essential because of the complexities of the place. Amazon is a place that needs new ways to be intervened. Different ways to work in contrast with the many wounds LQćLFWHG E\ KXPDQLW\

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Throughout history, nature has been devastated by development models based on excessive consumption of non-renewable resources; and the Amazon bears ZLWQHVV WR WKLV 8QWLO WKH ĆUVW KDOI RI LWV OHYHO RI GHIRUHVWDWLRQ JUHZ WR DERXW 65%. Such is the damage experts say that 2020 will break historical records of environmental damage.

Given this context and the imminent need for an architectural project, it is essential to ask: should human intervention always be synonymous with damage to nature? And, more importantly, can the architectural intervention be made a tool to recover the ecosystem?

PROBLEM Quito's bullring was a meeting and commercial point for citizens, but today it has become an empty zone deeply affected by the lack of its original function. From this arise the questions: ¿what people have to do with a building without its original purpose? ¿how is it possible to reactive and to return a functional space for Quito's citizens? And ¿how has to be affected the new building by the current conditions?

PROBLEM Due to the lack of public spaces and the need to promote the place’s identity, The Mitla government requires a park project. To achieve an optimal solution, It is important to consider regional materials, weather, culture, and history.

PROPOSAL The project is developed through analysis layers superposition where it is possible to identify surfaces, nodes, and ways. These allow generating some points in space with its respective interconnections WKURXJK ZD\V 7KH ĆUVW OD\HU WKH VSDFLDO RQH SRLQWV RXW WKH VXUIDFHV determined by the place’s geographical characteristics (slopes, bodies of water, and thick vegetation). The second layer, memorial one, point RXW VSHFLĆF VLWHV ZLWK KLVWRULF RU QDWXUDO UHOHYDQFH ZKLFK VKDSH D geometric mesh. The third layer connects these points and generates some routes that complete the experience required for the tourists.

GRADUAL COMPLEXITY OF HABITAT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The importance of the Mitla's landscape with its historical and natural relevance represents an important opportunity for Oaxaca's society. It is possible for them to exalt their cultural and natural values, and to rethink the current relationship between human being and nature. In this way, it is feasible to carry it out into a sustainable model for social, HFRQRPLF DQG HFRORJLFDO ĆHOGV ,Q WKLV SODFH LW LV SRVVLEOH WR ĆQG UHPDLQV WKDW VKRZ WKH WUDQVLWLRQ IURP QRPDGLVP WR sedentarism. Its territory is considered one of the two main origins of corn crops in the American continent. This background implies a proposal with special sensitivity to its historical relevance. Therefore, the project has to provide spaces to attract tourists and local people, but it also has to enhance conservation activities and ecological education for visitors.

The historic value is a substantial factor in Mitla, but it has to be upgraded because of the new entertainment activities found in big cities. For this, there is a need to generate architectural and landscape interventions. These will make it possible to upgrade the historical, cultural, and natural attributes in innovative ways.

These interventions claim to show high valued patrimonial sites, which have been forgotten

by Mitla's communities. It is feasible through improving accessibility for visitors and designing spaces that guarantee protection for Mitla's remains. Finally, the project is complemented by some socioeconomic and administrative strategies as community tourism, ancient knowledge recovery and promotion, and craft workshops.

PROPOSAL After a thorough review of the Pululahua's historical layers, It was possible WR JHW LQIRUPDWLRQ DERXW FUDWHU PRUSKRJHQHVLV DQG LWV ĆUVW LQKDELWDQWV the socioeconomic, administrative, and spatial changes; and the perspectives and potentialities exposed by its current inhabitants during VRPH VXUYH\V DQG LQWHUYLHZV 7KH FRPSLODWLRQ RI UHVXOWV UHćHFWLRQV DQG theoretical conclusions from the analyzed bibliography is the basis to generate the Pululahua's future vision.

This development vision is conformed by two parts: management proposal and design proposal. These have a utopian character, however, they are supported by current laws and also take as the point of beginning WKH VSHFLĆFLWLHV DQG FRQGLWLRQV RI WKH SODFH %HVLGHV RQH RI WKH PRVW important parts of the proposal is the consideration of a community participative process.

PROBLEM In the last 20 years, there has been an acute crisis in different dimensions within Quito, one of whose most evident expressions is the disorganization of its territory. The need arises for an urban proposal that contributes to reverse this multidimensional crisis of territorial organization that Quito lives through an intervention that should provide visible and structural solutions.

PROPOSAL El METABOLIC CORRIDOR is an opportunity to recompose and reconnect the urban territory with nature. It is the chance to boost a model of the city able to generate interconnections between urban systems and the preferences of its inhabitants.
