01 | VANLANDINGHAM ESTATE

Vanlandingham Estate Guest House

Nestled beside an estate’s overgrown pond and greenhouse, the Vanlandingham Estate Guest House was designed as a serene retreat, seamlessly blending space for lively events with a sense of privacy for guests. Its strategic siting immerses visitors in the surrounding natural environment, creating a sense of retreat and reflection. Multiple viewpoints were thoughtfully integrated around the structure, ensuring each perspective offers a unique and compelling visual experience. By addressing the duality of gathering and solitude, the design provides both a serene escape and a welcoming venue, enriching the overall experience of the estate.

CAMINO STETSON PORCH

This group project focused on designing a new porch for the Camino Church community, with an emphasis on using true-to-size lumber dimensions to streamline construction and minimize cost. Our design prioritized simplicity and build-ability, while enhancing the space’s social potential. One of the defining features was the use of multiple levels to subtly divide the patio into distinct, purpose-driven zones. This spatial strategy not only improved functionality, but also fostered social interaction and a greater sense of community among users.

The system captures rainwater along greywater systems and be reused within the building. This dual-function approach addresses both sustainable resource management at the architectural scale.

09 | NO WASTE BENCH

Materials | 4’X4”X1/2” Sheet of Plywood

The “No Waste Bench” was a fast-paced design-build assignment focused on sustainability, structural integrity, and creativity under constraint. The objective was to construct a bench that could support two people without generating any material waste and without the use of hardware. This challenge encouraged a careful balance of design efficiency, material honesty, and structural ingenuity.

My approach centered around bending the plywood to create a protective, shell-like form for seating. By employing a series of precise cuts, I allowed the material to flex naturally with the help of hot water, shaping the bench without compromising its strength. This technique not only enabled the desired curvature but also revealed a floating central shelf. A functional and structural element subtly integrated between the two seats.

Cabinet Frame | Various Types of Glass | Glass & Mirror Bevels | Flex Points

My stained glass design approach focuses on creating abstract compositions that integrate seamlessly with recycled frames. Each piece of glass is carefully selected and arranged to highlight variations in color, texture, thickness, and opacity. This attention to material qualities not only enriches the final composition, but also reflects the diversity within the medium. Due to its meticulous and time-intensive process, stained glass remains a rare and increasingly endangered art form.
