Many new services for Greenspark

Adele Louw

Greenspark will soon be abuzz with activities as many new projects are started by the municipality in this area. According to Mr Mluleki Dyonase, a Merafong City Local Municipality councillor and member of the mayoral committee responsible for roads, storm water and public works, a function was held in Greenspark to launch two big new projects last Friday. The first project is a pedestrian bridge, which will link Greenspark to Fochville. This bridge will lead over the double road as well as the Loopspruit separating these towns.

The bridge will also be so high that trucks can safely pass underneath. “There are many accidents taking place because residents of Greenspark have to walk over the main road to get to Fochville. The new bridge will make it safe and easy for residents to cross,” Dyonase told the Herald on Tuesday. He added that the building of the bridge will cost R20,1 million and will take about 10 months to complete. A total of 16 job opportunities will be created. In the meantime, dirt roads will also soon be a thing of the past at the new low-cost housing area that was erected

in Greenspark about a year ago. The area’s roads, which measures up to a total distance of 4,9 km, will all be either tarred or paved. According to Dyonase, some roads are particularly paved because it is more labour-intensive and will thus supply more jobs to local people. The storm water drainage system for the same area will also be completed at the same time that the roads are upgraded. This project amounts to R23 million and the Klerksdorp company, Ultimate Dynamics, which was responsible for building the new houses in a record time, will be the main contractors.

“The municipality promised residents that we will listen to what they asked for during the drawing up of the IDP. We are now delivering on those promises,” Dyonase told the Herald. He added that although the last project is supposed to provide jobs to 12 people, the municipality is talking to the contractors to sub-contract to as many local people as possible. The municipality also stresses to the main contractors that as many local people as possible must be trained in the skills needed to handle such contracts. This might ensure that the municipality can use local companies as main contractors in future.

Many community members from Greenspark also turned up for the launching of the project to build the new pedestrian bridge.
