She amongst other things talked about problems affecting residents such as housing development, storm water and roads, public private partnerships between the municipality and companies such as Anglo Gold Ashanti and the problems linked to the high rate of unemployment in the area. On Sunday, the Mayor also took part in the award winning religious programme Makgulong A Matala, recorded live from the Carletonville Sports Complex. This programme was led by the popular presenter Thuso Motaung. During the course of the event, which was recorded in front of about 4 000 people, Motaung and a regular contributer to the show, Reverend Maine, amongst other people prayed for the Mayor and her Mayoral Committee to lead the town well. According to the municipality’s political spokesman, Mr Slums Magodielo, it was the second time that this radio station, which is based in Bloemfontein, came to Merafong for live recordings. He added that people from all over Johannesburg and as far as the East Rand flocked to Merafong to take part in the proceedings. According to Magodileo, no problems were reported during the course of the event. “We appreciate the fact that the community behaved themselves. In this way, the residents made Merafong proud and are lifting our standards of behavoir,” Magodielo added.
