After a couple of years of re-strategizing it’s plans for India amid declining sales, Volkswagen has bounced back strongly in 2022 with the launch of the New Taigun compact SUV and Virtus sedan. The brand wants to expand its lineup even more, with a number of launches slated for 2023. Today we take a look at the ‘Upcoming Volkswagen Cars’.

Volkswagen Passat

After a gap of 3 years, the German automaker is slated to launch the ninthgeneration Passat in India towards the last quarter of 2023. The all-new model has been spotted testing multiple times, clad in heavy camouflage. This popular upcoming car, the Passat will be underpinned by Volkswagen’s MQB platform, which also is the base for the current generation Škoda Superb. Compared to the eight-gen model, the new version will be bigger in size.

Design wise, it will be an evolution of the outgoing model in foreign markets, refreshed enough to make it up to date. The interior on the other hand will be all-new. The New Passat will feature a new dashboard with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and reduced physical buttons. While it is yet to be confirmed, expect the premium sedan to come with features like connected car tech, auto climate control, a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ADAS tech and more.

Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace

Showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, the All-New Tiguan AllSpace is expected to be unveiled sometime next year. The upcoming model will share its design cues with newer models like the Taigun, Tiguan and the ID Buzz Concept.

Testing for the next-generation Tiguan AllSpace has already begun. The SUV will get a completely new front end with sharper styling, a larger front grille and a restyled front bumper while the rear end is believed to remain fairly similar to the current Tiguan model.

Moving to the interior, it will be more spacious than the previous model as it offers a longer wheelbase. The dashboard will provide a large touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside a digital instrument cluster.

Like other recent VW models, it will get a clutter-free centre console with reduced number of physical buttons.

Mechanically, the SUV will remain unchanged. Like earlier it will come equipped with a 2-litre TSI petrol engine. This powertrain is good for making 190bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired to a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.

Expected to launch sometime next year, the 2023 Tiguan AllSpace will compete against the likes of Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster in its segment.

Volkswagen ID.4

First showcased as a concept at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020, the ID.4 will be the first electric offering from Volkswagen in India. The EV has already been spotted testing in Pune, sans camouflage. Reports suggest that the ID.4 will be launching in India around mid-2023.

Design wise, the electric vehicle gets LED headlights with integrated LED DRL’s, a large air dam, and vertically mounted LED fog lights up front. As for the rear, there are LED taillights on either side with a connected LED light strip. Overall, it is a pleasing and futuristic design that is sure to turn some heads.

Speaking of the interior it will feature an all-black cabin. Like all recent introductions of cars from the brand, the dashboard will offer dual digital displays for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. Its equipment list will include tri-zone climate control, powered seats with 12-way adjustment, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, connected car tech, ADAS tech, and more.

It is currently not clear what type specs would the ID.4 be offering in India. Globally, the EV is offered with a 55 kWh or 77 kWh battery pack. When paired to a single electric motor, its maximum power and torque output stands at 201bhp and 310 Nm. Whereas in the case of dual-motor variants, peak power jumps to 295 bhp while torque remains the same.

Upon launch, the VW ID.4 will rival the likes of the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5.
