Farmer’s Market focuses on Alberta Culture Days MOUSH JOHN Editor Even though the Alberta Culture Days event was cancelled this year due to COVID-19 pandemic, Yvonne Brown of Tofield Farmer’s Market held a small celebration on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Community Hall. “Since we could not hold the usual event celebrating Alberta Culture Days and fundraising for the Tofield and Area Health Services Foundation this year, we invited them to the Farmer’s Market instead, to give them a platform to fundraise,” Brown said. “This included an information board and a small sales area from Busy B where Chair Brenda Chehade could raise funds for the organization.” The Community Attention and Retention Committee (CARC) also attended the Market represented by Cyndy Heslin. Heslin put a spinning
wheel to use, asking visitors to answer questions correctly to win a prize. Community volunteer and Welcome Basket Committee member Sandy Brolly was also present helping Chehade and Heslin. However, one of the main attractions was the four-table display that Brown had organized for visitors and people at the Market. “We had a multitude of cultural items from around the world,” Brown added. “These were displayed in a mix of areas showing that all cultures are of great importance and work best when in a team together!” There was also a wall display of clothing and costumes from various countries. “We had a Beaver County cookbook in the display, and it was one of the the first items to be sold at the Market,” she recalled. “That was quite encouraging for me. coverage as possible in terms of any display that we do at the Farmer’s Market. “There was a visitor, a fine gentleman who noticed the Tofield Food Bank sign, and donated $20 towards it. It’s gestures like these that make any attempt to raise awareness of the various local causes a success!” Brown noted that among the many vendors who had participated on Friday, was one whose birthday was on the same day. “She was an animal lover and wanted to support the work of Animal Rescue people, so we donated $50 from Busy B for the cause,” Brown explained. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have the Welcome Basket Committee as part of our community; both Brenda and Sandy do an outstanding job, and Busy B is always happy to provide any items that they may need for the newcomers. “We’ve been having new vendors this season,

and last Friday we had someone from the north of Tofield, which was very exciting. Even though we are a Farmer’s Market, we are also a
community market and it’s our hope that we will always have community present to share in the many presentations we host each time.”
“We’d like to thank the Tofield and area community for all your support! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you.” – ‘Wally’ Zeidan
