Threats uttered and disturbances reported in Kinsella

On July 10, police received a complaint of a theft. The complainant advised someone had stolen his handicap placard from his vehicle sometime over the previous three days. Police have no suspects at this time.

Also this date, police learned that a male failed to attend Vegreville Provincial Court as required. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Aaron Robertson. Two additional charges have also been laid under the Criminal Code for failing to attend court as well as failing to attend for the purposes of the Identification of Criminals Act.

That night, police were dispatched to a 911 hangup. Police were able to contact the caller and it was determined the call had been placed in error and there was no emergency.

During the early morning hours on July 11, police received a complaint of a vehicle with no tail lights northbound on Highway 36. Police did not locate the vehicle in question.

That evening, police received a report of indecent exposure through a window at a residence in Viking. Police attended and confirmed the male in question was in fact wearing light tan sweatpants and was not nude. The complainant was updated.

On July 13, police were dispatched to a family dispute in progress. When police arrived on scene they learned a female had arrived home in an intoxicated state and had an argument with her mother. The female had damaged a wall and then exited the home. The complainant did not wish to proceed with charges and police did not receive any further calls to the home.

That afternoon, police received a complaint of a threatening message left for an individual in Kinsella. The complainant advised someone had left a sign on her father’s doorstep with what she perceived to be a threatening message. There was no evidence to positively identify the person who had left the sign and the message was vague in nature and did not meet the grounds for uttering threats under the Criminal Code.

Incident in Bruce

Viking RCMP have advised that a police incident that took place Sunday night in the community of Bruce has been resolved peacefully.

Residents had been asked to shelter in place and follow the directions of the officers involved in the incident.

The RCMP stated that during that time “the threat to the community was contained to a residence.” However, they considered the situation to be “dynamic” in nature.

On July 14, a citizen attended the detachment with a cheque his wife had received in the mail. He was concerned it may be fraudulent as there was no explanation why she had been issued the cheque. He was advised not to cash the cheque and consult with his bank.

That afternoon, police were informed of stolen property that had been located at a vacant property southwest of Viking. Police attended and found a flat deck trailer with two side by sides on it. Investigation revealed the trailer had been stolen from Redwater and the side by sides were stolen from Mundare and Sedgewick. All vehicles were towed and the registered owners were updated on their recovery. Police have no suspects at this time.

That evening, police received a complaint of vandalism to a property in Kinsella. The culprit was identified; however, the complainant did not wish to proceed with charges. Police warned the culprit and advised her to stay away from the property.

Early on July 15, police were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 14 involving a pickup and a semi tractor pulling a tanker trailer. Investigation revealed the westbound pickup had crossed the centre line and struck the trailer of the eastbound semi. A female passenger in the pickup sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Viking Health Centre by EMS for treatment. The driver of the pickup was issued a roadside demand on an ASD which resulted in a “fail” reading. Police proceeded via the Provincial Sanctions which resulted in an immediate suspension of his license and the seizure of his vehicle. Neither of the drivers sustained any injuries in the collision.

Later that morning, police received a complaint of a semi driving erratically on Highway 14. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

Also that day, police received a complaint of threats being uttered in Kinsella. Police spoke with the involved parties and determined the complaint was unfounded and there were no grounds to proceed with a charge.

That afternoon, police received a complaint of a female causing a disturbance in Kinsella. Police attended and located the person in question. She was placed under arrest for uttering threats and mischief and transported to Killam RCMP Detachment where she was held for a bail hearing. This matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.

On July 16, CN Police reported that a crossing gate was damaged at the CN tracks in Viking. They were unsure who had caused the damage and sent a crew out to make the repairs.

Later that afternoon, police received a report of a male threatening harm to himself and others. The complainant advised the male did have access to a weapon. Police attended the residence and the male refused to respond to their requests to exit the home. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed and attended the location. The male was taken into custody without injury. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

“Police attended the residence and the male refused to respond to their requests to exit the home,” stated the weekly report by the Viking RCMP on Monday.

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in and took the man into custody without injury.

A police statement issued afterwards stated: “RCMP are pleased to report that the suspect has been safely taken into custody. The police incident and the shelter in place is now over.”

Viking RCMP are still investigating the incident and no charges have been reported.
