Attendance way up for show and shine breakfast, say organizers

Organizers at Viking Historical Society’s pancake breakfast said attendance was way up this year.

They knew it because they were twice as busy serving up more food than ever on Sunday during the society’s Show and Shine on main street.
Dorothy White, who was just one of many volunteers working the breakfast on Sunday, estimated 150-200 people came into the Legion Hall to enjoy the pancakes, sausages, and eggs.

And that was just for the 8 a.m. to noon shift after which they switched to serving Viking wieners from noon to 2 p.m. Hungry patrons took to the famous local delight with gusto.
The event is so popular and is based only on a donation, but as a fundraiser it is a major success - especially this year.
All the proceeds go towards the maintenance and operation of the museum run by the historical society.
Completely free is the annual “Show and Shine” which everyone goes out to enjoy after their meal. The streets are lined with all kinds of vintage and antique vehicles, maintained and displayed by their loving owners.
The society also officially announced its recent possession of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church and hall, located on the same block as the Legion, and held a church service inside after an informal ribbon cutting took place in front of the historic church’s doorway.
