Motorists driving secondary highways in the Viking area were issued 29 violation tickets by Beaver County’s Community Peace Officers (CPOs) in the month of November last year, and 16 in December of 2022. November’s tickets included five on November 1 (no warnings issued), one on November 3 (two warnings), three on November 9 (one warning), five on November 10 (one warning), three on November 17 (no warnings), six on November 19 (no warnings) and six on November 29 (one warning). In December, there were four tickets issued December 1 and two warnings; another four December 7 (one warning), no tickets or warnings on December 8 due to poor weather conditions, five tickets on December 9 and three tickets on December 22 with one warning. December’s enforcement hours were reduced from 40 to 27.5 hours because of sick leave and the holidays. “In the New Year we fully anticipate being able to again provide enforcement services of 40 hours a month as per the contract,” stated Rick Ells, senior CPO for Beaver County. Fines total $6,451 for November and $3,884 in December - “less 40 per cent that the Province of Alberta keeps for their administration,” stated Ells. The Town of Viking has a contract with Beaver County for the services of the county CPOs to conduct traffic enforcement on Highways 13, 14 and 619.
