The music industry boxes have been becoming increasingly harder to maintain as more artists are taking autonomy of their careers including public persona and of course their musical sound. These genreshifters have been taking up more space in recent years and taking their fans and labels alike on a wild ride. Heavy hitters like Kayne and Rihanna have been at the forefront of the creative revolution moving seamlessly through various genres,

being inspired by other artists and sounds is at the very heart of what it means to be creative. For MTV’s Love and Hip Hop Miami star Florence El Luche there’s too much creativity to contain in one genre. The Haitian born artist, affectionately known as The Queen of Kompa recently sat down with Caribbean Elite Magazine to discuss her new ventures in Hip Hop as she maintains her Kompa crown.

In the past five years, Florence has dominated Kompa/Creole

But based school and college in Miami, Florence’s upbringing was American Hip Hop culture around her. Miami, 305, us songs like “Don’t Baddest Bitch”. For Florence, Hip Hop and Kompa are both at the

who she is an artist.

“I listen to everyone says Flo, from Cardi B, Rihanna, to Spice.” Her new single “Bouce Dat” produced by and featuring fellow Love and Hip Hop Miami castmate Trina was a seamless collaboration.

Produced by Trina, the single is reminiscent of the upbeat club bounce that dominates strip clubs in the southern region. The single is gaining momentum as it debuted at number 5 on the U.S. iTunes chart and hit over 2 million streams on YouTube. But can an artist be both Hip Hop and Kompa? RNB and Reggae? Country and EDM?

As labels try to grasp how to market genre fluid artists, more acts are breaking rules.

In a recent sit down with Caribbean Elite Magazine Florence EL Luche speaks to the duality of her artistry as just one portion of her multifaceted empire. “Sticking to just one thing has never been me! Yes, I’m a Caribbean born, Haitian artist but that doesn’t mean I can’t explore in Hip Hop or Pop or RNB.”

Florence is a highly regarded and influential figure in the vibrant world of Haitian music. With her mesmerizing voice and captivating stage presence, Florence has become synonymous with the Kompa genre, a popular style of Haitian dance music. Her soulful performances and powerful lyrics have touched the hearts of countless fans, earning her a special place in the hearts of music lovers around the world. Florence's talent and dedication to her craft have not only solidified her status as a prominent Kompa artist but also served as an inspiration for aspiring musicians. Through her music, she continues to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Haiti and spread joy to audiences everywhere.

ART FORM FOR THE LOVE OF SOCA !

In the vibrant and diverse world of Caribbean music, one name stands out as a true force of talent and creativity: Nadia Batson. With her mesmerizing voice, captivating stage presence, and innovative musical style, Batson has become a trailblazer in the industry, pushing boundaries and redefining what it means to be a Caribbean artist. Hailing from the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago, Batson has not only captured the hearts of her fellow countrymen but has also garnered international acclaim, making her mark as a true icon of Caribbean music. In this article, we delve into the life, career, and undeniable impact of Nadia Batson, whose artistry continues to inspire and elevate the sounds of the Caribbean

Art Form has made its stamp as a highly anticipated event in the entertainment industry, What inspired you to bring forth this event? The answer to that

is simple: my fans!! They are the driving force behind my desire to showcase my body of hits.

We know you will have some surprises, any hints you can give us? Hmmmmm…Without giving too much away, I can say that I love featuring artistes that have paved the way for me. It’s an honor to share the stage with ICONS, so that’s definitely a hint. Lol*

Where is a location you would love to see Art Form next? I feel like Artform would be nice in London or in Toronto. I also have such a beautiful fan base in other islands of the Caribbean, so it would be nice to take the concert to one of the islands as well.

What inspired you to become a soca artist, and when did you first discover your passion for music? I’ve been a lover of Soca music for as long as I can remember. My passion to become a Soca artiste came when I started doing background vocals for a few major artistes in Soca. I was able to get a behind the scenes look at the process, and I fell in love with it.

Your music is known for its powerful messages and positive vibes. How do you come up with the lyrics and themes for your songs? Inspiration can appear in many forms and at any time. I really don’t have a template or format when it comes to my song writing. I feel as though my personality shines through my music though.

Many of your songs feature collaborations with other artists. Who have been some of your favorite collaborators, and what makes a successful collaboration in your opinion? I’ve had many memorable collaborations and amazing, memorable experiences. I think a successful collaboration is solely based on the vibe and connection between the artistes. As long as there is good energy flowing, the collaboration will inevitably be successful.

What has been your biggest challenge as a soca artist, and how have you overcome it? I think one of my biggest challenges was my lack of confidence in showcasing my talent and

13 WWW.CARIBBEANELITE.COM

creativity. I was also challenged by self-doubt. I quickly realized that my lack of confidence in my work was doing a huge disservice to my career. I started trying my best to see myself the way that my fans saw me. I began looking at my work with a different pair of eyes, and that allowed me to truly appreciate how talented I am. Now, when I look back at my early years in the business, I understand that my insecurity was a part of my journey because it allowed me to have a greater appreciation for my craft.

Your performances are known for their energy and enthusiasm. How do you prepare for a live show, and what is your favorite part of performing for an audience?

Just before I touch any stage, I try to keep in mind that people are there to be entertained. I give a lot of energy because I feel like that’s what my fans are there to see. I would usually be very quiet before going on stage and strategically plan how I want to execute my performance. My favorite part of performing is watching the joy on the faces of my fans.

What can we do as a culture to push music and entertainment and music forward? We simply must continue to make amazing music. We also need to

Women have made significant contributions to the soca music genre. Who are some of the female artists that have inspired you throughout your career, and how have they influenced your music? I’ve admired so many women of Soca/Calypso over the years. I loved the stage presence and power of Singing Sandra. I also admired the perseverance and determination of Denyse Plummer. In Soca, I was and will always be a fan of Destra and Alison Hinds. I felt as though they were given leading positions in their respective bands, and they took full control of it. To be honest, I’m such a fan of ALL women of Soca, mainly because they’ve dominated their fields. The determination and creativity displayed by these women has positively affected my music because they were great examples.

Nadia Batson's musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, as she continues to break

barriers and leave an indelible mark on the Caribbean music scene. With her powerful vocals, infectious energy, and unwavering passion for her craft, Batson has become an emblem of inspiration for aspiring artists, proving that dreams can be realized through dedication and unwavering commitment. As she continues to evolve and experiment with her sound, we eagerly anticipate the future contributions that Nadia Batson will bring to the world of music. With each performance, she reminds us of the power of Caribbean artistry, captivating audiences near and far, and leaving an enduring legacy that will resonate for generations to come. Nadia Batson is not just a singer; she is an artist, a visionary, and a true musical force, solidifying her rightful place as an icon in the vibrant tapestry of Caribbean music.

Specializing in the Dialogue between the Gentleman & the Dreamer

Caribbean-Americans have made significant contributions to the fashion industry, offering bold and unique designs that rival many luxury brands! When I think of luxury, I envision quality, class and exclusivity, which are elements of some of the most notable Caribbean-American brands.

We had the opportunity to sit with the designers of Garcon Couture, where we took a deep dive into this unique brand, reflecting on the past and discussing their way forward.

Tell us a little about the men behind this unique brand: The lead designers behind Garçon Couture are Jean Gilbert Francilion and Ilbert J. Sanchez. The two of us met during our time in college where it was difficult to ignore the magnetic energy we shared whenever we collaborated. Even back then, we were both stylish and ambitious, but had no idea we could take our talents to the next level!

I always loved menswear and knew I wanted to play a role in transforming the industry since I was young. Even professionally, I have always chosen to make very aggressive career moves to be in

menswear and to add my perspective to the space. Ilbert has always had an interest in design beginning his creative pursuits in the world of graphic design. When Ilbert and I combined forces, we created Garçon Couture as a fashion home for men to conceptualize and create their own piece of excellence for their special events and everyday runways.

What inspired you to start a couture line? When was the brand established: Garçon Couture was established in 2016. We started with accessories but worked to focus our attention on custom suiting and building a name for ourselves in the arena. The inspiration behind the brand was being able to provide black and brown people with an option that was not only unique but excellent.

Describe Garcon Couture's ideal customer: Garcon Couture's ideal customer is the person who wants to stray away from the norm. The individual that is looking for details that not only stand out, but make noise. With over 600 different fabrics and stylists who come from various backgrounds, our goal is that anyone who wants something excellently crafted
